Sunday’s Dragon Duel Feature Match: Kevin Thai versus Jaxon Peairson
12-year-old Kevin Thai from Mississippi is Dueling against 12-year-old Texan Duelist Jaxon Peairson in the final round of Sunday’s Dragon Duel tournament! Kevin and Jaxon are the only undefeated Duelists in the Dragon Duel tournament right now, so the winner will secure a first place finish and a spot in the weekend’s Dragon Duel Playoff! The format for this tournament is Battle Pack Sealed, so both of these Duelists assembled their Decks from the cards pulled from Battle Packs. Only the luckiest and most skilled Duelist will advance to the Dragon Duel Playoff, and we’re about to find out who it’ll be. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Thai opened up Duel 1 with Twin-Sword Marauder, Exarion Universe, Harpie’s Feather Duster, and 2 copies of Heavy Storm.
He Summoned Exarion Universe and then Set all of his Spell Cards face-down.
Peairson activated Darkworld Shackles to reduce Exarion Universe to 100 ATK and then Summoned Dark Valkyria. He attacked Exarion Universe with Dark Valkyria to destroy it. Peairson Set 2 cards to his back row before passing.
Thai drew a Damage Gate and Set it. Then he flipped Harpie’s Feather Duster. Peairson Chained Blast with Chain. Thai destroyed Peairson’s Call of the Haunted and Blast with Chain, and Peairson destroyed the face-down Damage Gate with the effect of Blast with Chain. He Set Twin-Sword Marauder and then passed his turn.
Peairson Summoned Card Guard and then attacked the face-down Marauder with Valkyria to destroy it. Card Guard attacked directly next, dropping Thai down to 4400 Life Points.
Thai drew United We Stand and Set it.
Peairson Summoned Mask of Darkness. Direct attacks from Dark Valkyria, Mask of Darkness, and Card Guard finished Thai off!

Duel Two
Thai chose to go second in Duel 2.
Peairson started off Duel 2 by Summoning Card Guard and adding a Guard Counter to it.
Thai opened up with Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive, Battle Fader, Liberty at Last!, Hedge Guard, Dark Valkyria, and Dark Ruler Ha Des. He Summoned Dark Valkyria and then Set Liberty at Last!.
Peairson Summoned Chaos Necromancer and then activated Creature Swap to trade his Necromancer for Dark Valkyria. Dark Valkyria attacked and destroyed Chaos Necromancer, and then Thai flipped Liberty at Last! to shuffle Peairson’s 2 monsters into their owners’ Decks.
Thai Summoned Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive and Set Magic Cylinder. He attacked directly with Dekoichi.
Peairson Summoned Chiron the Mage and attacked Dekoichi; but the attack backfired when Thai flipped Magic Cylinder to negate the attack and drop Peairson down to 4800 Life Points.
Thai Tributed Dekoichi to Summon Dark Ruler Ha Des and then attacked over Chiron to destroy it and drop Peairson down to 4150 Life Points.
Peairson Summoned Goblindbergh and activated its effect to Special Summon Drillroid from his hand. He combined both monsters to Xyz Summon Gem Knight Pearl and then attacked over Ha Des to destroy it.
Thai Set a monster and passed.
Peairson Set a card to each zone and then attacked Thai’s face-down Hyper Hammerhead with his Gemknight Pearl. Hammerhead was destroyed, and Pearl returned to the Extra Deck.
Thai activated Heavy Storm to destroy Peairson’s face-down Skill Drain. He Summoned Dark Valkyria and attacked Peairson’s face-down Mask of Darkness with it. Mask of Darkness was destroyed, and Peairson brought Skill Drain back to his hand with its effect.
Peairson Set a card to each zone.
Thai attacked Peairson’s face-down Old Vindictive Magician with Valkyria, and Valkyria was destroyed by its effect.
Peairson passed without making a play.
Thai Set Hedge Guard and passed.
Peairson Summoned Twin-Sword Marauder and attacked into Hedge Guard, losing 500 Life Points.
Thai Tributed Hedge Guard to Summon Caius the Shadow Monarch, and Peairson negated its effect with Skill Drain. Then, Caius attacked and destroyed Twin-Sword Marauder.
Peairson Set a card to his back row and passed his turn.
Thai drew Autonomous Action Unit and then attacked with Caius; but Peairson flipped Fiendish Chain to negate the attack.
Peairson Set a card to his back row and passed.
Thai Summoned Gene-Warped Warwolf. He activated Autonomous Action Unit and gave up 1500 Life Points to Special Summon Chiron the Mage from Peairson’s Graveyard. He attacked directly with Chiron and Gene-Warped Warwolf, wiping out the rest of Peairson’s Life Points.
The Match is moving on to a third and final Duel!
Duel Three
Thai opened up with Hedge Guard, Gene-Warped Warwolf, Alector, Sovereign of Birds, Heavy Storm, and Raiza the Storm Monarch. He Set Hedge Guard and Heavy Storm before passing.
Peairson Summoned Mask of Darkness and then activated Creature Swap to trade it for Thai’s face-down Hedge Guard. He Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.
Thai drew United We Stand and then flipped Heavy Storm to destroy Peairson’s face-down Skill Drain! Next, he Tributed Mask of Darkness to Summon Raiza and send Hedge Guard to the top of his Deck. He equipped Raiza with United We Stand and then attacked directly with Raiza.
Peairson activated Darkworld Shackles to drop Raiza down to 100 ATK. Then, he Summoned Goblindbergh and used its effect to Special Summon Drillroid from his hand. He combined his monsters to Xyz Summon Gem-Knight Pearl and then attacked Raiza.
Thai Set Gene-Warped Warwolf and passed.
Peairson Set a card to each zone and attacked Gene-Warped Warwolf to destroy it.
Thai Set Penguin Soldier and passed.
Peairson attacked Penguin Soldier with Pearl, and the Soldier’s effect returned Pearl to the Extra Deck and Peairson face-down monster to his hand. Peairson Set a monster in Main Phase 2.
Thai Summoned Twin-Sword Marauder and attacked Peairson’s face-down Hedge Guard, unable to destroy it.
Peairson Tributed Hedge Guard to Summon Alector, and flipped Blast with Chain to increase its ATK. He attacked Twin-Sword Marauder to destroy it with his Alector and drop Thai down to 3700 Life Points.
Thai drew Tour Guide From the Underworld. He Set Hedge Guard and passed.
Peairson activated Change of Heart to take control of Thai’s face-down Hedge Guard and then attacked Thai directly with Alector to drop Thai down to 800 Life Points. He Flip Summoned Hedge Guard and then returned it to Thai in the End Phase.
Thai Set Old Vindictive Magician, switched Hedge Guard into Defense Position, and passed his turn.
Peairson Set a monster and then attacked Hedge Guard with Alector to destroy it.
Thai drew Hyper Hammerhead and then Flip Summoned Old Vindictive Magician and used its effect to destroy Alector. Next, he Tributed Old Vindictive Magician to Summon Alector, and attacked Peairson’s face-down Shield Warrior to destroy it.
Peairson Normal Summoned Old Vindictive Magician and passed.
Thai Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect to Special Summon Gravity Orb from his Deck! He attacked Old Vindictive Magician with Tour Guide, and Peairson protected his monster by banishing Shield Warrior from his Graveyard. Then, Alector attacked and destroyed it. A direct attack from Gravity Orb dropped Thai down to 800 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Thai combined his 2 Level 3 monsters to Summon Grenosaurus.
Peairson drew a card and conceded on his next turn, offering the handshake!
