Top 16 Feature Match: Paul Infante versus Andres Arreola Jr.

April 10th, 2016

This could be the last tournament that we see Performapal Pendulums in action, so it’s quite fitting that this Round we have another mirror match. The Field narrowed down to a Top Cut filled with Performapal Pendulums, and both Paul Infante and Andres Arreola are piloting the strategy. Only one can move onto the Top 8, while the other will be sent home. Who will show their Pendulum mastery?

Infante won the roll and chose to go first.

Duel One:

Infante started with a hand of Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Archfiend Eccentrick, Performapal Lizardraw, and two copies of Upstart Goblin. He activated one Upstart Goblin and drew Chaos Trap Hole, then the second and drew Wavering Eyes. He placed both Performapals in his Pendulum Zones, and then destroyed them with Wavering Eyes. He dealt 500 damage to put Arreola down to 9500, and searched Performapal Skullcrobat Joker. He Normal Summoned it and used its effect to add Performapal Monkeyboard, then placed it in the Pendulum Zone and used it to add Performapal Silver Claw. He placed the Performapal Silver Claw in his Pendulum Zone next, and performed a Pendulum Summon for Performapal Lizardraw and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer. The Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer triggered, destroying both of his scales, so he could search Performapal Guitartle and Performapal Lizardraw. He activated Performapal Guitartle and the Performapal Lizardraw, drawing Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and then Upstart Goblin once he destroyed the Performapal Lizardraw. He activated Upstart Goblin and drew Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, putting Arreola at 10500 Life Points. He overlayed Performapal Silver Claw and Performapal Skullcrobat Joker for Number 106: Giant Hand and Set Chaos Trap Hole before he ended his turn.

Arreola placed Performapal Lizardraw alongside Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer in his Pendulum Zone. He used the effect of Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer to destroy the opposing Performapal Guitartle, then Normal Summoned Performapal Secondonkey so he could search Performapal Monkeyboard. He Pendulum Summoned for just Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, but when he tried to activate its effect, Infante negated it with Number 106: Giant Hand. He declared an attack with Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer over Performapal Lizardraw, then overlayed for Traptrix Rafflesia in Main Phase 2. He Set two back row and ended.

Infante drew Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Normal Summoned it before he tried to end, but during the End Phase Arreola used the effect of Traptrix Rafflesia to send Treacherous Trap Hole to the Graveyard and destroy both of Infante’s Monsters.

Arreola drew and activated Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer to destroy itself, then placed Performapal Monkeyboard in his Pendulum Zone. He activated its effect to add Performapal Skullcrobat Joker, but when he tried to Normal Summon it he lost out to Infante’s Chaos Trap Hole. Arreola pressed on with the effect of Performapal Lizardraw to draw a card, then replaced it with Performapal Guitartle in his Pendulum Zone. He Pendulum Summoned for Performapal Lizardraw and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his Extra Deck, and then swung in with both. Infante was left with 2850 Life Points before Arreola ended.

Infante drew Solemn Strike for turn. He placed Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Archfiend Eccentrick in his Pendulum Zone, then tried to Pendulum Summoned for Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Performapal Silver Claw from his Extra Deck along with Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his hand, but Arreola had Solemn Strike to stop them all! Infante Set Solemn Strike and ended.

Arreola drew and clarified Life Points before he Normal Summoned Guiding Ariadne…which was enough damage to end the Duel!

After a few intense turns, Arreola manages to squeak ahead in cards and take the first game. If Infante loses another Duel, he is out of the tournament! Can Infante fight through two Duels?

Infante chose to go second.

Duel Two:

Arreola started with Guiding Ariadne and Archfiend Eccentrick in his Pendulum Zone, then Pendulum Summoned just Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer. He activated its effect to destroy both of his Pendulum Scales to search Performapal Guitartle and Performapal Skullcrobat Joker, then triggered Guiding Ariadne revealing two copies of Solemn Strike and Solemn Warning. Infante let him have a Solemn Strike, then Arreola Normal Summoned Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and used it to add Performapal Lizardraw to his hand. He placed Performapal Guitartle in his Pendulum Zone and then Performapal Lizardraw, ultimately drawing two cards after he destroyed the Performapal Lizardraw. He overlayed both of his Performapals for Traptrix Rafflesia before Setting three to his back row and ending.

Infante had two copies of Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Guiding Ariadne, Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, and Wavering Eyes before he drew Maxx “C”. He placed Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Guiding Ariadne in his Pendulum Zone. He tried to use a Wavering Eyes, but Arreola had Twin Twister discarding Maxx “C” to blow him out! Infante was forced to pass.

Arreola drew and Normal Summoned Performapal Secondonkey before he activated Performapal Partnaga. He used it to pump Performapal Secondonkey and declared a direct attack with it before ending.

Arreola drew and started with Draco Face-Off, which Infante responded to with Maxx “C”. Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord fought but Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord came out on top as it was Special Summoned. Infante drew Upstart Goblin off of Maxx “C”, then Arreola used Performapal Partnaga to pump Performapal Secondonkey before attacking with it and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord.

Infante drew Draco Face-Off and used Upstart Goblin to draw Mystical Space Typhoon. He activated the Draco Face-Off and put Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord up against Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, with Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord winning the fight. The Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord was Special Summoned and declared an attack over Performapal Secondonkey. Infante Set Mystical Space Typhoon and ended.

Arreola drew and tried to use the effect of Performapal Partnaga on Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord, but Infante responded with Mystical Space Typhoon. Arreola Set another back row and ended.

Infante drew Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Normal Summoned it immediately. He moved to Battle Phase and crashed one Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord into Arreola’s, then directly with the other.

Arreola drew and ended.

Infante drew Upstart Goblin and used it to draw Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord. He Normal Summoned it and swung directly with both to put Arreola down to 3100 Life Points.

Arreola drew and looked through his Graveyard and Extra Deck. He activated Draco Face-Off, which Infante tried to respond to with Maxx “C”, but the swarm of bugs lost out to Solemn Strike. Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer were chosen , with Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord winning a spot in the Pendulum Zone. He placed Performapal Guitartle in his Pendulum Zone as well, and after a massive Pendulum Summon that was it!
