YCS Houston Top 32 Deck Breakdown

April 10th, 2016

After 10 long rounds of Swiss, 32 Duelists remain in the tournament. Performapal Pendulums was expected to be the dominating force among the popular strategies, closely followed by Burning Abyss variants. Both Domaind and Xyz Monarchs were expected in high numbers, along with Kozmos as well. Here is the breakdown:

13 Performapal Pendulums
7 Burning Abyss Phantom Knights
2 Burning Abyss
5 Kozmos
2 Xyz Monarchs
1 Domain Monarchs
1 Atlantean Mermails
1 Infernoids

A massive 13 Performapal Pendulums made the Top 32 Cut, definitely showcasing why the Forbidden & Limited List will work to weaken them come tomorrow. Burning Abyss variants had a super impressive showing as well, most likely thanks to Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal. A total of 9 Burning Abyss Decks made Top 32, with 7 of them including Phantom Knights. 5 Duelists wielded the force of Kozmo into the Top Cut, which is unsurprising given how much steady success it has had since its release. Only 3 Monarchs made it through which is definitely lower than expected, and even more surprising is that there were more copies of Xyz Monarchs than Domain variants. A single Atlantean Mermail Deck made it through piloted by World Championship competitor Miguel Soto Jr., but the most surprising is Infernoids. With the limitation of Reasoning come Monday, we may not see Infernoids make a breakthrough on the big stage in a while, so it is definitely cool that James Valentino has managed to make it this far with them.

What will come out on top? Can Burning Abyss defeat the Pendulum menace with the aid of Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal? Or will the new and improved Performapal Pendulums with Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy reign supreme once again? Five more rounds and we will crown our champion!
