Finals Feature Match: James Kim versus Tahmid Zaman

May 29th, 2016

It all comes down to this! James Kim from Toronto, Canada is Dueling against Queens, New York’s Tahmid Zaman in the Finals of YCS Providence 2016! One of these Duelists will emerge from this Match as the champion of YCS Providence, while the other will remain a mere runner-up. Will James Kim become the king of YCS Providence with his Monarch Deck, or will Tahmid Zaman become champion with his Burning Abyss and Phantom Knight monsters? It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Kim won the die roll and chose for Zaman to go first.

Zaman started off the Match by Special Summoning Speedroid Terrortop from his hand in Defense Position.

Zaman

He activated its effect to add Speedroid Taketomborg from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned Taketomborg to his field. He combined Terrortop with Taketomborg to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and then detached an Xyz Material to activate Dante’s effect and send Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade, Allure of Darkness, and Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he Special Summoned Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his hand, and combined them to Xyz Summon another Dante in Defense Position. He detached Alich to activate Dante’s effect and send The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots, Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished Silent Boots from his Graveyard to add Fog Blade from his Deck to his hand. He sent Scarm from his hand to his Graveyard to Xyz Summon Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal using Dante as an Xyz Material, and then Set 2 cards to his back row. Zaman added Tour Guide From the Underworld from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Scarm in his End Phase.

Kim opened up Duel 1 with Upstart Goblin, Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, Super Quantum Red Layer, Edea the Heavenly Squire, Eidos the Underworld Squire, and The Monarchs Stormforth. He activated Upstart Goblin to draw another copy of The Monarchs Stormforth and then activated The Monarchs Stormforth. Zaman Chained the effect of Beatrice by detaching Dante, and sent The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he used Dante’s effect to add Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Graveyard to his hand. Kim Special Summoned Red Layer from his hand and then Tributed Beatrice and Red Layer to Summon Ehther the Heavenly Monarch. Zaman negated Ehther’s effect with Fog Blade and used his fallen Graff’s effect to Special Summon Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck in Defense Position. Kim Set The Monarchs Stormforth before ending his turn.

Zaman Normal Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect. Scarm destroyed itself with its own effect, and Tour Guide Special Summoned Cir from Zaman’s Deck. Next, Zaman combined Tour Guide with Cir to Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon and detached Cir to Special Summon Silent Boots from his Banished Zone. Next, he used Cir’s effect to Special Summon Dante from his Graveyard in Defense Position. He Special Summoned Silent Boots from his hand next, and then combined both copies of Silent Boots to Xyz Summon The Phantom Knights of Break Sword. He used Break Sword’s effect to destroy his own Fog Blade and destroy Ehther. Next, he used Dante’s effect to send the top 3 cards of his Deck to his Graveyard and increase Dante’s ATK to 2500. He sent Alich from his hand to his Graveyard to upgrade his 1000 ATK Dante into Beatrice, and then direct attacks from Leviair, Dante, Break Sword, and Beatrice wiped out all 8000 of Kim’s Life Points!

Burning Knights

Tahmid Zaman makes short work of James Kim in Duel 1, and is just one win away from becoming the champion of YCS Providence!

Duel Two

Kim chose for Zaman to go first in Duel 2.

Zaman Special Summoned Terrortop from his hand and activated its effect to add Taketomborg from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it to the field and then combined Terrortop with Taketomborg to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss in Defense Position. He detached Taketomborg from Dante to activate its effect and send Magic Deflector, The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots, and The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves from his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished Silent Boots from his Graveyard to add Fog Blade from his Deck to his hand and then sent Libic from his hand to his Graveyard to upgrade Dante into Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal! Zaman Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.

Kim opened up Duel 2 with Twin Twisters, Pantheism of the Monarchs, Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, Erebus the Underworld Monarch, Drowning Mirror Force, and Return of the Monarchs.

Kim

Zaman flipped Anti-Spell Fragrance in his Draw Phase and Kim Chained Twin Twisters and discarded Ehther to destroy it. Next, Kim activated Pantheism by discarding Return of the Monarchs and drew Red Layer and another Pantheism from the top of his Deck. He banished Pantheism from his Graveyard to add 2 copies of Tenacity of the Monarchs and a copy of The Prime Monarch from his Deck to his hand, and Zaman added Tenacity to Kim’s hand while shuffling the other 2 cards back into Kim’s Deck. Kim activated Tenacity by revealing Erebus and added The Prime Monarch from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Pantheism of the Monarchs and discarded The Prime Monarch to draw Tenacity of the Monarchs and Erebus the Underworld Monarch from his Deck. He banished Return of the Monarchs from his Graveyard to Special Summon The Prime Monarch from his Graveyard and then Set a card to his back row before ending his turn. In his End Phase, Zaman detached an Xyz Material from Beatrice to send Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used Calcab’s effect to return Drowning Mirror Force from Kim’s field to his hand.

Zaman detached Dante from Beatrice to send Fog Blade from his Deck to his Graveyard and then used Dante’s effect to add Libic from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, he banished Fog Blade from his Graveyard to Special Summon Ragged Gloves from his Graveyard. He Normal Summoned Terrortop next, and combined it with Ragged Gloves to Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon. He detached Ragged Gloves from Leviair to Special Summon Silent Boots from his Banished Zone and then banished Ragged Gloves from his Graveyard to send Ancient Cloak from his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished Ancient Cloak from his Graveyard next, activating its effect to add Silent Boots from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Silent Boots to his field and then combined both copies of Silent Boots to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss to the field in Attack Position. He sent Graff from his hand to his Graveyard to Xyz Summon Beatrice in Attack Position over Dante, and used Graff’s effect to Special Summon Farfa from his Deck. Farfa destroyed itself and banished The Prime Monarch from the Duel with its effect. Then, both Beatrices and Leviair attacked directly, dropping Kim down to 1800 Life Points. Due to Farfa’s effect, The Prime Monarch returned to the Monster Card Zone in the End Phase, and then, as a Trap Card in the Monster Card Zone, it was sent to the Graveyard by game mechanics.

Kim drew Mystical Space Typhoon and then activated it to destroy Zaman’s face-down Fog Blade. He banished Pantheism of the Monarchs from his Graveyard next, revealing Pantheism and 2 copies of The Monarchs Stormforth from his Deck. Zaman added The Monarchs Stormforth to Kim’s hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into Kim’s Deck. Next, Kim activated The Monarchs Stormforth, and Kim Chained the effect of Beatrice. He detached Dante to send Barbar to the Graveyard. He used Barbar’s effect to inflict 900 points of damage to Kim, and used Dante’s effect to return Barbar from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, Kim Special Summoned The Prime Monarch from his Graveyard and Tributed it along with Beatrice to Summon Erebus the Underworld Monarch; but Zaman negated Erebus’s effect with Effect Veiler. Kim offered the handshake moments later, realizing that Zaman would use Barbar’s effect on his next turn to wipe out Kim’s last 300 Life Points!

End of the Tournament

Tahmid Zaman takes a quick 2-0 victory in the Finals to become the champion of YCS Providence with his Burning Abyss Phantom Knight Deck!
