Edea tried to Special Summon another monster with 800 ATK and 1000 DEF but Dougherty negated and destroyed Edea with Crystal Wing’s effect! To followed up by banishing Eidos from the Graveyard to Special Summon the fallen Edea. Edea was Tributed to Summon Kuraz the Light Monarch, which was used to destroy Crystal Wing and itself, with each player drawing a card. To set a back row and passed.
Dougherty drew Solemn Strike. He activated the Soul Charge he drew from Kuraz, Special Summoning Crystal Wing and Dragon Spirit of White, dropping to 6000 LP. He used Dragon Spirit’s effect to banish the face-down Spell Trap which was chained: Twin Twisters destroyed only Dragon Ravine. Dougherty set Solemn Strike and passed.

Return of the Monarchs was activated which set the stage for Tribute Summon for Ehther the Heavenly Monarch sending The Prime Monarch and Pantheism of the Monarchs, to Special Summon another Ehther and Erebus the Underworld Monarch being added from Deck to hand from Return. Pantheism of the Monarchs was banished to reveal 3 Tenacity of the Monarchs. One of those Tenacities was activated to add Domain of the True Monarchs to hand which was immediately activated. He activated Dragon Shrine, sending Blue-Eyes White Dragon and White Stone of Ancients. He set Solemn Strike, Mask of Restrict and Magic Deflector. Before he could end Main Phase 1, To activated the effect of his in-hand Ehther the Heavenly Monarch by banishing Tenacity of the Monarchs from the Graveyard. The on-field Ehther was Tributed to Tribute Summon the in-hand Ehther, which sent another Pantheism of the Monarchs and Return of the Monarchs to Special Summon the third Ehther. In the End Phase, the Ehther was returned to the hand.
On To’s draw, Dougherty activated Mask of Restrict. In Main Phase 1, Eidos the Underworld Squire was banished from the Graveyard to Special Summon Edea the Heavenly Squire which Special Summoned another Eidos the Underworld Squire from the Graveyard. Pantheism of the Monarchs was banished from the Graveyard, revealing 2 copies of Tenacity of the Monarchs and a Pantheism of the Monarchs. To drew for turn, activated the last Pantheism of the Monarchs from the Graveyard, revealing Tenacity of the Monarchs, The Prime Monarch and Return of the Monarchs. The Prime Monarch was selected to add to hand. Moving into the Battle Phase, Ehther attacked into the face-down Dragunity Phalanx, and attacked with both Edea and Eidos. In Main Phase 2, he set a second Spell/Trap and activated Maxx “C” to get down to 6 cards in hand before passing.
Dougherty drew, set another Dragunity Phalanx. In the End Phase, To flipped-up The Prime Monarch, targeting his in-grave Tenacity of the Monarchs and Return, then chaining the in-grave The Prime Monarch banishing Return. When the chain resolved, The Prime Monarch was Special Summoned, Tenacity of the Monarchs was returned to the deck and To drew a card.
In To’s turn, Tenacity of the Monarchs revealed Caius the Mega Monarch to search for Return. Foolish Burial was activated, sending Edea the Heavenly Squire, which was activated but negated by Dougherty’s Solemn Strike. The Prime Monarch was switched to Attack Position, Ehther’s attacked cleared away the face-down Phalanx, and the other three monsters took the rest of Dougherty’s LP!
Game 3
Dougherty elected to go first, and opened with Magic Deflector, Solemn Warning, Mask of Restrict, Maiden with Eyes of Blue and Silver’s Cry. He set all 3 traps, Summoned Maiden and passed.
To activated Pantheism of the Monarchs, discarding The Prime Monarch to draw 2 cards. He followed-up with the in-grave effect of Pantheism, revealing 2 copies of Tenacity of the Monarchs and a Pantheism. Pantheism was selected, which was activated discarding Domain of the True Monarchs to draw another 2 cards. Edea the Heavenly Squire was Normal Summoned, and the effect was activated to Special Summon Edios from the Deck. Dougherty flipped up Mask of Restrict in a chain to Eidos the Underworld Squire’s effect but inadvertently showed the Magic Deflector instead. To set a Spell/Trap and passed.
Dougherty drew Trade-In and passed.
To activated the second Pantheism of the Monarchs from the Graveyard, revealing the third Pantheism of the Monarchs, Tenacity of the Monarchs and The Prime Monarch. Prime was selected to add to hand. Edea the Heavenly Squire was switched to Defense, a set Spell/Trap followed, and To passed.
Dougherty drew a second Mask of Restrict, which was set.
To drew, set a third Spell/Trap and passed.
Dougherty drew the third Mask of Restrict and passed.
To drew, then flipped-up Twin Twisters, discarding Return of the Monarchs, Dougherty chained Magic Deflector, To chained a second Twin Twisters, discarding Tenacity of the Monarchs, targeting the face-down Solemn Warning and the face-up Mask of Restrict, but the face-down Mask of Restrict was chained. The end result left Dougherty with a single active Mask of Restrict on the field to go with the Maiden with Eyes of Blue that was single-handedly stopping To from making any type of attack. To set a Spell/Trap and passed.
Dougherty drew Magic Deflector, which he set alongside Mask of Restrict and Trade-In. In the End Phase, Twin Twisters hit both the face-up and the final face-down Mask of Restrict. This could be a big turning point!
To activated Domain of the True Monarchs, then used it to reduce Ehther the Heavenly Monarch’s Level to 6, then Tributed Edea the Heavenly Squire for Ehther. Dougherty used Magic Deflector to deny To a search with Return, but To pressed on by adding Pantheism of the Monarchs with Edea’s effect, Special Summoning Erebus the Underworld Monarch with Ehther, then using Pantheism of the Monarchs to add The Monarchs Stormforth to hand. To used The Prime Monarch as a Trap Card to send back 2 Monarch Spell/Traps to draw a card. Erebus the Underworld Monarch attacked into Maiden with Eyes of Blue to trigger her effect, negating the attack and Special Summoning a Blue-Eyes White Dragon from deck, but it was defeated by Ehther backed by Domain of the True Monarchs’s ATK boosting effect.
Dougherty drew another Maiden with Eyes of Blue for turn, Silver’s Cry was used to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon but Maxx “C” was chained to draw To a card. Blue-Eyes White Dragon attacked Ehther, destroying it and inflicting 200 damage. (At this point, To realized the Erebus the Underworld Monarch on the field should have been added to hand in the previous End Phase since it was Special Summoned by Ehther the Heavenly Monarch. The judge determined this could be fixed by adding the Erebus back to the hand at this time. To received Warning for the Procedural Error.) In Main Phase 2, Dougherty Synchro Summoned Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon! To drew and additional card with Maxx “C”. Dougherty Normal Summoned Maiden with Eyes of Blue and passed.
To used Domain of the True Monarchs to reduce his in-hand Erebus the Underworld Monarch’s Level to 6. He then used The Monarchs Stormforth. To then Tributed his opponent’s Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon to Summon Erebus the Underworld Monarch. Erebus’s effect was used to send Maiden with Eyes of Blue back to the deck, not trigger her effect since Erebus doesn’t target. The Prime Monarch sent another 2 cards back to the deck to draw another card. Erebus attacked directly, then To passed.
Dougherty drew Twin Twisters to go alongside the Trade-In which couldn’t answer To’s field. Dougherty extended the handshake, giving To the win in today’s first round!
