Round 10 Feature Match: Thomas Mak versus Amr Hassan
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Thomas Mak is Dueling against Queens, New York’s Amr Hassan in our Round 10 Feature Match! Mak and Hassan both currently have 6-2-1 records, which means a loss in this Swiss Round will guarantee elimination in this tournament, while a win will still require lucky tiebreakers in order to make it into the Top 32. Nevertheless, the dream of a Top 32 finish is still alive for Thomas Mak and Amr Hassan, and they’ll be Dueling their hardest in this final Swiss Round in order to maximize any possible chance of making it into the Top 32.
Mak is using an Xyz Monarch Deck that features Brilliant Fusion. Mak can use Brilliant Fusion to send Gem-Knight Lazuli and Metaphys Armed Dragon from his Deck to his Graveyard. Not only does this allow him to Summon Gem-Knight Seraphinite and gain an additional Normal Summon, but it also lets him use Lazuli’s effect to return Metaphys Armed Dragon from his Graveyard to his hand. Metaphys Armed Dragon has 2800 ATK and 1000 DEF, allowing him to use it with Tenacity of the Monarchs and Domain of the True Monarchs. Amr Hassan is using a Mermail Atlantean Deck that is capable of wiping out 8000 Life Points in a single turn. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Mak opened up Duel 1 with Return of the Monarchs, The Monarchs Stormforth, Tenacity of the Monarchs, Super Quantum Red Layer, and Kuraz the Light Monarch.
He activated Tenacity by revealing Kuraz in order to search his Deck for Pantheism of the Monarchs and add it to his hand. Next, he activated Pantheism and discarded The Monarchs Stormforth to draw The Prime Monarch and Ehther the Heavenly Monarch from his Deck. He banished Pantheism from his Graveyard next, revealing Pantheism and 2 copies of Domain of the True Monarchs from his Deck. Hassan added the Pantheism to Mak’s hand and Mak shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, Mak activated Pantheism and discarded The Prime Monarch to draw Edea the Heavenly Squire and Brilliant Fusion from his Deck! He Special Summoned Super Quantum Red Layer and then activated Brilliant Fusion! Hassan Chained Maxx “C”, and Mak sent Gem-Knight Lazuli and Metaphys Armed Dragon from his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Gem-Knight Seraphinite. Hassan drew a card, and Mak used Lazuli’s effect to add Metaphys Armed Dragon from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, Mak Normal Summoned Edea the Heavenly Monarch and activated its effect to Special Summon Eidos from his Deck, allowing Hassan to draw another card. Mak activated Return of the Monarchs next, and then Tributed Edea to Summon Kuraz using his additional Summon. He activated the effects of Kuraz, Edea, and Return of the Monarchs. He added Ehther to his hand with Return, returned his banished Pantheism to his hand with Edea, and then destroyed his own Return of the Monarchs and Eidos to draw 2 cards with Kuraz. Mak Set Pantheism of the Monarchs to his back row before ending his turn.
Hassan drew a card in his Draw Phase, leaving him with 7 in his hand. He Special Summoned Mermail Abyssmegalo from his hand by discarding Atlantean Marksman and Atlantean Dragoons and then used the effects of his Abyssmegalo, Marksman, and Dragoons. He added Abyss-scale of the Mizuchi to his hand with the effect of Mermail Abyssmegalo, destroyed Mak’s face-down Pantheism with Marksman, and added Deep Sea Diva from his Deck to his hand with the effect of his Atlantean Dragoons. Next, Hassan Normal Summoned Deep Sea Diva and activated its effect to Special Summon Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince from his Deck. He activated Neptabyss’s effect to send Atlantean Dragoons from his Deck to his Graveyard and add Atlantean Heavy Infantry from his Deck to his hand. He used the effect of Atlantean Dragoons to add Mermail Abyssmegalo from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Tuned Deep Sea Diva with Neptabyss to Synchro Summon Tatsunoko in Attack Position. He attacked Seraphinite with Tasunoko to destroy it, and then attacked and destroyed Red Layer with Mermail Abyssmegalo. Next, Hassan Special Summoned Mermail Abyssteus from his hand by discarding Atlantean Heavy Infantry, and activated the effects of Atlantean Heavy Infantry and Mermail Abyssteus, targeting Kuraz for destruction. Mak Chained the effect of the Ehther in his hand by banishing Return of the Monarchs from his Graveyard, and Tributed Kuraz to Summon Ehther. Hassan added Mermail Abyssgunde to his hand with the effect of Abyssteus and Mak Special Summoned Erebus from his Deck with the effect of Ehther after sending The Prime Monarch and Return of the Monarchs from his Deck to his Graveyard. Hassan activated Moray of Greed next, returning 2 WATER monsters to his Deck to draw 3 cards. He combined Abyssteus and Mermail Abyssmegalo next, in order to Xyz Summon Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack, and then detached an Xyz Material from it to activate its effect and Special Summon 2 Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens to the field. Then, he Tuned Tatsunoko with his 2 Tokens to Synchro Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier! He activated its effect to banish Pantheism of the Monarchs from Mak’s Graveyard, Ehther from his field, and Thestalos the Mega Monarch from Mak’s hand. He Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn. In his End Phase, Mak banished Return of the Monarchs from his Graveyard to Special Summon The Prime Monarch to his field and returned Erebus from his field to his hand.
Mak drew Maxx “C” and then banished Tenacity of the Monarchs from his Graveyard to try to Special Summon The Prime Monarch from his Graveyard; but Hassan flipped Vanity’s Emptiness! Next, Mak banished Pantheism of the Monarchs from his Graveyard to reveal 2 copies of The Monarchs Stormforth and Tenacity of the Monarchs from his Deck. Hassan added The Monarchs Stormforth to Mak’s hand, and shuffled the other cards back into Mak’s Deck. Mak activated The Monarchs Stormforth next, and Tributed Hassan’s Trishula along with his own The Prime Monarch to Summon Erebus the Underworld Monarch. He activated its effect to send Pantheism of the Monarchs and Tenacity of the Monarchs from his Deck to his Graveyard and return Dracossack to Hassan’s Extra Deck. Vanity’s Emptiness was sent to the Graveyard. Next, Mak banished Eidos from his Graveyard to Special Summon Edea, and activated Edea’s effect to Special Summon Eidos from his Deck and gain an additional Tribute Summon. He Tributed Edea and Eidos to Summon Ehther the Heavenly Monarch and used its effect to Special Summon another Ehther from his Deck by sending Domain of the True Monarchs and Tenacity of the Monarchs from his Deck to his Graveyard. Mak added Tenacity of the Monarchs to his hand with the effect of Edea. Next, Mak attacked directly with Erebus and Ehther, dropping Hassan down to 2400 Life Points. When the last Ehther attacked, Hassan activated Abyss-sphere to Special Summon Mermail Abyssteus from his Deck. Mak Chained Maxx “C” to draw a card, and Ehther destroyed Abyssteus in battle. Mak activated Tenacity of the Monarchs to add The Prime Monarch to his hand in Main Phase 2 and Set it along with Brilliant Fusion before ending his turn. In his End Phase, Ehther returned to Mak’s hand.
Hassan Summoned Mermail Abyssturge and activated its effect. He discarded Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince to add Deep Sea Diva to his hand and then used his Prince’s effect to Special Summon Dragoons from his Graveyard. Mak flipped The Prime Monarch and shuffled 2 of his Monarch cards back into his Deck to draw a card. Next, Hassan combined Deep Sea Diva with Atlantean Dragoons to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller. He activated its effect by detaching Atlantean Dragoons and Mak Chained the effect of The Prime Monarch to Special Summon it from his Graveyard. Hassan added Mermail Abyssmegalo to his hand with the effect of his Dragoons. He Special Summoned it to the field by discarding Marksman and another card, and used Marksman’s effect to destroy Mak’s face-down Brilliant Fusion. He equipped Mermail Abyssmegalo with Abyss-scale and then attacked Ehther to destroy it and drop Mak down to 6700 Life Points.
Mak activated the effect of The Prime Monarch to shuffle The Prime Monarch and Tenacity from his Graveyard into his Deck, and Chained the effect of The Prime Monarch to Special Summon it to the field. He drew a card and then combined both copies of The Prime Monarch to Xyz Summon Number 61: Volcasaurus! Mak detached an Xyz Material from Volcasaurus to destroy Mermail Abyssmegalo and wipe out the rest of Hassan’s Life Points with Volcasaurus’s effect!

Hassan started off Duel 2 by Setting 2 cards to his back row and passing his turn.
Mak opened up Duel 2 with 2 copies of Domain of the True Monarchs, Effect Veiler, Kuraz, and 2 copies of Ehther. Hassan flipped Mask of Restrict and Anti-Spell Fragrance in Mak’s Draw Phase. Mak Set Domain of the True Monarchs and then ended his turn.
Hassan Set a card to his back row and passed his turn.
Mak drew Maxx “C”. He Special Summoned Super Quantum Red Layer from his hand and attacked directly with it.
Hassan Set a card to his back row and Set a monster.
Mak drew Edea the Heavenly Squire. He Set it and then passed his turn.
Hassan flipped One for One and Mak Chained Maxx “C”. Hassan sent Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince from his Deck in Attack Position and Mak drew a card. Hassan activated Neptabyss’s effect by sending Atlantean Dragoons from his Deck to his Graveyard, and Mak negated the effect of Neptabyss with Effect Veiler. Hassan added Mermail Abyssmegalo from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Atlantean Dragoons. He Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.
Mak drew Return of the Monarchs. He attacked Neptabyss with Red Layer to destroy it and then Set Return of the Monarchs.

Hassan flipped Instant Fusion and gave up 1000 Life Points to Special Summon Elder Entity Norden from his Extra Deck. He used its effect to Special Summon Atlantean Dragoons from his Graveyard in Defense Position and then combined Dragoons with Norden to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller in Attack Position. He detached Dragoons from Dweller to activate its effect, and used the effect of Dragoons to add Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince from his Deck to his hand.

He Summoned Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince and activated its effect by sending Atlantean Marksman from his Deck to his Graveyard. He added Atlantean Heavy Infantry from his Deck to his hand with its effect. Next, he discarded Atlantean Heavy Infantry and Atlantean Dragoons from his hand to Special Summon Mermail Abyssmegalo from his hand. He used the effect of Mermail Abyssmegalo to add Abyss-scale from his Deck to his hand, used the effect of Atlantean Heavy Infantry to destroy Red Layer, and used the effect of his Dragoons to add Mermail Abyssmegalo from his Deck to his hand. He Flip Summoned Mermail Abyssgunde next, and then direct attacks from Mermail Abyssgunde, Abyss Dweller, Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince, and Mermail Abyssmegalo wiped out Mak’s Life Points.
