Round 5 Feature Match: Carlos Flores versus Cristian Urena
Local Providence Duelist Carlos Flores is Dueling against Cristian Urena from Reading, Pennsylvania in our Round 5 Feature Match. Flores is currently undefeated in the tournament using his Gravekeeper’s Deck, which features 3 copies of Card of Demise from the new Millennium Pack. Card of Demise has allowed several “underdog” Decks that were previously perceived as non-competitive to rise above the competition by giving those Decks an incredible ability to draw numerous cards. Flores’s Gravekeeper’s Deck is just one of those many “underdog” Decks that benefits from the inclusion of Card of Demise, and that has made it to the top tables of this weekend’s YCS as a result of it.
But Cristian Urena is looking to end Flores’s winning streak right here! Urena is using a Performapal Odd-Eyes Deck that relies on Pendulum Summons to overwhelm the field. Will Flores’s passive Deck be able to exploit Card of Demise enough to defeat Cristian Urena? Or will Urena’s explosive Pendulum Summoning strategy be too much for Flores to handle? We’re about to find out – it’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Urena won the die roll and chose to go first.
He started off the Duel by Setting a card to each zone.
Flores opened up with Gravekeeper’s Stele, Lose 1 Turn, Drowning Mirror Force, Mirror Force, Necrovalley, and Vanity’s Emptiness. He activated Necrovalley and then Set all 5 Trap Card to his back row.
Urena Flip Summoned Guiding Ariadne and then Normal Summoned another Guiding Ariadne. He attacked with one, but Flores flipped Drowning Mirror Force to shuffle both Ariadnes back into Urena’s Deck!
Flores drew Mirror Force and Set it.
Urena Summoned Magical Abductor and attacked directly with it.
Flores drew Solemn Warning and passed his turn.
Urena Summoned Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer and then attacked directly with it; but Flores flipped Mirror Force to destroy the Pendulum Sorcerer and Abductor, sending them to the Extra Deck. Urena Set a card before passing his turn.
Flores drew Royal Tribute and activated it, forcing Urena to discard 2 copies of Performapal Secondonkey from his hand. He Set Solemn Warning before passing.
Urena drew a card and then passed his turn.
Flores drew Pot of Duality and passed his turn.
Urena drew a card and then passed his turn once again.
Flores drew Gravekeeper’s Spy and Set it.
Urena Summoned Archfiend Eccentrick and Tributed it to destroy Flores’s face-down Gravekeeper’s Spy. Next, he placed Magical Abductor and Performapal Guitartle in his Pendulum Zones, and Flores flipped Vanity’s Emptiness. Urena added a Spell Counter to his Abductor when he placed Guitartle in his Pendulum Zone.
Flores drew Upstart Goblin and passed.
Urena tried to Summon Guiding Ariadne, and Flores flipped Solemn Warning and paid 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon. Ariadne’s effect allowed Urena to add Solemn Strike from his Deck to his hand. Next, Urena Pendulum Summoned Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer from his Extra Deck, and Flores activated Lose 1 Turn, negating the effect and switching Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer into Defense Position.
Flores activated Pot of Duality to add Thunder King Rai-Oh to his hand and then activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Urena 1000 Life Points. Urena added 2 Spell Counters to his Abductor as a result of these Spell Card activations. Next, Flores tried to Normal Summon Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo; but Urena flipped Solemn Warning and gave up 2000 Life Points to negate its Summon.
Urena removed 3 Spell Counters from Magical Abductor to add Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his Deck to his hand and then Summoned it to the field. He attacked into Mirror Force, and then Urena Pendulum Summoned Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, and Magical Abductor from his Extra Deck in Defense Position during Main Phase 2.
Flores drew Gravekeeper’s Recruiter and then activated Pot of Duality to reveal Drowning Mirror Force, Raigeki, and Bottomless Trap Hole from the top of his Deck. He added Raigeki to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, he activated Raigeki, allowing Urena to add a Spell Counter to his Abductor, and sending all of Urena’s monsters back to his Extra Deck. Flores Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh and attacked directly, dropping Urena down to 5100 Life Points.
Urena Pendulum Summoned Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, and Magical Abductor back to the field in Defense Position and then passed his turn.
Flores drew Gravekeeper’s Commandant. He Summoned it to the field and then attacked Magical Abductor and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer to send them back to the Extra Deck. In his End Phase, Urena flipped Draco Face-Off, revealing Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord from his Deck. Master Pendulum was randomly selected, and Urena Special Summoned it to the field while sending Vector Pendulum to his Extra Deck.
Urena attacked and destroyed Thunder King Rai-Oh with Master Pendulum, and then removed 3 Spell Counters from Magical Abductor to add Archfiend Eccentrick from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned it to the field and then activated its effect to Tribute it and destroy Gravekeeper’s Commandant. He Pendulum Summoned Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Magical Abductor, and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord in Defense Position during Main Phase 2.
Flores flipped Gravekeeper’s Stele to add Gravekeeper’s Spy and Gravekeeper’s Commandant from his Graveyard to his hand and then Set the Commandant.
Urena activated Terraforming to add Sky Iris from his Deck to his hand, and added a Spell Counter to his Magical Abductor. Next, he activated Sky Iris to add another Spell Counter to his Abductor. He used Sky Iris’s effect to destroy his Guitartle and add Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn from his Deck to his hand, and activated it in his Pendulum Zone to add a third Spell Counter to his Abductor. He removed 3 Spell Counters from Magical Abductor to add Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his Deck to his hand and then switched all of his monsters into Attack Position. Master Pendulum attacked Flores’s face-down Commandant, and Urena lost 50 Life Points in the battle. In Main Phase 2, Urena combined Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer and Magical Abductor to Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia in Defense Position, and combined Master Pendulum with Vector Pendulum to Xyz Summon Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer in Defense Position. Then, he Tuned Luster Pendulum with Master Pendulum to Synchro Summon Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer. He Pendulum Summoned Luster Pendulum and Master Pendulum back to the field in Defense Position before ending his turn.

Duel Two
Flores opened up Duel 2 with Gravekeeper’s Heretic, Pot of Duality, Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo, Maxx “C”, and Moon Mirror Shield.
He activated Pot of Duality to reveal Anti-Spell Fragrance, Dark Bribe, and Raigeki from the top of his Deck, and added the Anti-Spell Fragrance to his hand while shuffling the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, he Normal Summoned Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and equipped it with Moon Mirror Shield. He Set Anti-Spell Fragrance before passing his turn.
Urena drew a card and then Flores flipped Anti-Spell Fragrance in his Draw Phase. Urena Set a monster and Set 2 cards to his back row.
Flores attacked and destroyed Urena’s face-down Performapal Secondonkey with his Fossil Dyna. He Set Bottomless Trap Hole before passing his turn.
Urena flipped his face-down Raigeki to destroy Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo, and Flores paid 500 Life Points to put the Moon Mirror Shield on the bottom of his Deck. Urena Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.
Flores Summoned Gravekeeper’s Heretic and attacked directly.

Flores drew Necrovalley and Set it. He attacked Urena’s face-down Guiding Ariadne with his Heretic, sending it to the Extra Deck and activating its effect to allow Urena to add Solemn Strike from his Deck to his hand.

Flores flipped his Necrovalley and then attacked directly with his Heretic.

Flores drew Maxx “C” and then attacked Urena’s face-down Guiding Ariadne, once again sending it to the Extra Deck. Urena used its effect to add another Solemn Strike to his hand.

Flores attacked Urena’s face-down Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord to destroy it, sending it to the Extra Deck. He Set a card to his back row before passing his turn.

Urena Summoned Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and activated its effect to add Performapal Secondonkey from his Deck to his hand. Skullcrobat Joker attacked the Heretic, destroying both monsters.

Urena Summoned Magical Abductor and attacked directly.
Flores flipped Raigeki to destroy Magical Abductor, sending it to the Extra Deck. Next, he Set Royal Tribute.
Urena Summoned Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer and attacked directly, dropping Flores down to 2300 Life Points. Urena Set a Field Spell Card before passing.
Flores flipped his face-down Royal Tribute, forcing Urena to discard all 3 cards in his hand. Flores discarded his own Maxx “C”, but kept his other cards.
Urena flipped Odd-Eyes Fusion, but Flores Chained Vanity’s Emptiness to stop it. Next, Urena attacked with his Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, and Flores flipped Mirror Force to destroy it. Vanity’s Emptiness went down with the Mirror Force.
Flores Summoned Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and attacked directly with it. He Set Solemn Warning before passing.
Urena drew a card and Set 1 card to his back row.
Flores attacked directly with Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and then Set his Gravekeeper’s Spy. In his End Phase, Urena flipped Full House, destroying Flores’s Necrovalley, Anti-Spell Fragrance, Solemn Warning, Lose 1 Turn, and Gravekeeper’s Stele!
Urena Summoned Lector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and attacked Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo to destroy it.
Flores activated Necrovalley and then activated another Necrovalley to replace the first one. Next, with no cards left in his hand, he activated Card of Demise to draw 3 cards. He activated Twin Twisters and discarded Maxx “C” to destroy 2 of Urena’s back rows, but when Flores Flip Summoned Gravekeeper’s Spy and tried to activate its effect, Flores Flipped Solemn Strike to negate the effect and destroy the Spy. Flores promptly conceded, realizing that his 1550 Life Points would be wiped out on the next turn.
