Vincent Silverman and Steven Tarnok are both currently 5-2 in this weekend’s tournament. Silverman is using a “Domain Monarch” Deck that declines to use an Extra Deck in order to capitalize on the full effect of Domain of the True Monarchs. This variant of Monarch Decks seems to have lost a lot of popularity lately, as Monarch Decks that include a complete Extra Deck overtook them on the tournament scene. Steven Tarnok is using a Kozmo Deck strengthened by the recent release of new Kozmo monsters in Shining Victories. Only one of these two Duelists can win our Round 8 Feature Match and advance to Day 2. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Silverman opened up Duel 1 with Mithra the Thunder Vassal, Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, Erebus the Underworld Monarch, and 2 copies of Return of the Monarchs.

He Set a copy of Return of the Monarchs and then ended his turn.

Tarnok activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Silverman 1000 Life Points. Next, he Normal Summoned Kozmoll Wickedwitch and attacked directly, dropping Silverman down to 7100 Life Points. He used his Wickedwitch’s effect to banish it and Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer from his hand, and then used Dark Destroyer’s effect to have it destroy itself. He banished his Dark Destroyer to Special Summon Kozmo Farmgirl from his Deck, and then attacked directly with Farmgirl to drop Silverman down to 5600 Life Points. He paid 500 Life Points to activate the effect of Farmgirl and add Kozmo Sliprider from his Deck to his hand. Next, he banished Farmgirl from his field to Special Summon Kozmo Sliprider from his hand, and used Sliprider’s effect to destroy Silverman’s face-down Return of the Monarchs. Then, he attacked directly with Sliprider, dropping Silverman down to 3300 Life Points. Tarnok activated Kozmotown in Main Phase 2, and used its effect to return Dark Destroyer from his Banished Zone to his hand by giving up 800 Life Points. Next, he activated another Kozmotown, and used its effect to add Wickedwitch to his hand by giving up 400 Life Points. He used Kozmotown’s other effect next, shuffling Wickedwitch into his Deck to draw a new card. Tarnok activated Terraforming to add Kozmotown from his Deck to his hand and then Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Silverman drew The Prime Monarch and then Set Mithra and The Prime Monarch.

Tarnok used the effect of his Kozmotown to add Farmgirl to his hand and give up 300 Life Points. He Summoned Strawman next, and used its effect to banish it and Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer to his field. He used Dark Destroyer’s effect to destroy Silverman’s face-down Mithra, and then direct attacks from Kozmo Dark Destroyer and Kozmo Sliprider wiped out the rest of Silverman’s Life Points!

Tarnok capitalizes on Silverman’s weak opening hand to take a quick victory in Duel 1!

Duel Two

Silverman opened up Duel 2 with Domain of the True Monarchs, Erebus the Underworld Monarch, Tenacity of the Monarchs, and 2 copies of Mithra the Thunder Vassal. He activated Tenacity of the Monarchs by revealing Erebus from his hand and added Return of the Monarchs to his hand with its effect. Next, he activated Domain of the Monarchs and used its effect to reduce the Level of the Erebus in his hand to 6. Next, he Special Summoned Mithra to his field, Special Summoning a Vassal Token to Tarnok’s field in Defense Position. Then, Silverman activated Return of the Monarchs and Tributed his Vassal to Summon Erebus the Underworld Monarch. He added Ehther the Heavenly Monarch from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Return, gained an extra Summon with Mithra, and sent Pantheism of the Monarchs and The Prime Monarch from his Deck to his Graveyard to shuffle a random card from Tarnok’s hand into his Deck with Erebus’s effect. Next, he banished Panethism from his Graveyard to reveal 3 copies of The Monarchs Stormforth from his Deck, and added one of them to his hand. Then, he used the additional Tribute Summon gained by Tributing Mithra, in order to Tribute Erebus and Summon Ehther to the field. He sent Pantheism of the Monarchs and Domain of the True Monarchs from his Deck to his Graveyard to activate Ehther’s effect and Special Summon another Ehther to his field. He banished Domain of the True Monarchs from his Graveyard to Special Summon The Prime Monarch from his Graveyard in Defense Position and then Set The Monarchs Stormforth. He returned an on-field Ehther to his hand in his End Phase.

Tarnok Normal Summoned Kozmo Farmgirl and then banished it to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer from his hand. He used Dark Destroyer’s effect to destroy Ehther. Silverman activated The Monarchs Stormforth in Tarnok’s Main Phase and then banished Tenacity from his Graveyard to Tribute Summon Ehther from his hand by Tributing Tarnok’s Dark Destroyer and Silverman’s own copy of The Prime Monarch. He used the effect of Return of the Monarchs to add Thestalos the Mega Monarch from his Deck to his hand, and Chained the effect of The Prime Monarch to Special Summon The Prime Monarch from his Graveyard. He used Ehther’s effect to Special Summon Kuraz from his Deck, and destroyed Kuraz and The Prime Monarch with Kuraz’s effect in order to draw 2 cards.

Silverman activated The Monarchs Stormforth and then Special Summoned The Prime Monarch from his Graveyard by banishing Domain of the True Monarchs from his Graveyard. Next, he Tributed The Prime Monarch to Summon Majesty’s Fiend. Tarnok flipped Chaos Trap Hole and gave up 2000 Life Points to negate the Summon and banish Majesty’s Fiend. Next, Silverman banished another Pantheism from his Graveyard and revealed 2 copies of Tenacity and a Stormforth from his Deck. Tarnok chose to add the Stormforth to Silverman’s hand. Silverman attacked Tarnok’s Defense Position Vassal Token with Ehther to destroy it. Silverman Set Escalation of the Monarchs and The Monarchs Stormforth before ending his turn.

Tarnok activated Kozmotown. He added Kozmo Farmgirl from his Banished Zone to his hand by giving up 300 Life Points, and then used Kozmotown’s other effect to shuffle Farmgirl back into his Deck and draw a card. Tarnok Summoned Kozmo Tincan next, and then Set a card to his back row. He attempted to end his Main Phase, and Silverman flipped The Monarchs Stormforth. Tarnok Chained Kozmojo to destroy his own Tincan and banish Ehther. In Tarnok’s End Phase, Silverman Special Summoned The Prime Monarch from his Graveyard.

Silverman activated the effect of his Domain to lower the Level of the Thestalos in his hand. Next, he Tributed The Prime Monarch to Summon Thestalos the Mega Monarch, and used Return’s effect to add Erebus from his Deck to his hand. He banished Pantheism from his Graveyard next, revealing 2 copies of The Prime Monarch and a Tenacity of the Monarchs from his Deck. Tarnok added The Prime Monarch to Silverman’s hand. Thestalos attacked directly, dropping Tarnok to 2900 Life Points. Silverman Set Twin Twisters and The Prime Monarch before ending his turn.

Tarnok drew a card and then conceded, bested by Silverman’s hand and field. The Match is moving on to a third and final Duel!

Duel Three

Tarnok opened up Duel 3 by activating Kozmotown and using its effect to send a Kozmo Strawman from his hand back into his Deck and draw a card.

He Set 3 cards to his back row and then entered his End Phase. In his End Phase, he activated Emergency Teleport from his hand, Special Summoning Kozmo Tincan from his Deck, and activated Tincan’s effect by giving up 500 Life Points. He revealed Kozmo Dark Destroyer, Kozmoll Dark Lady, and Kozmo Sliprider from his Deck with its effect, and randomly added Dark Destroyer to his hand. Next, he banished his Tincan to Special Summon Dark Destroyer from his hand.

Silverman opened up with 3 copies of Super Quantum Red Layer, Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, Tenacity of the Monarchs, and Domain of the True Monarchs. Tarnok flipped Anti-Spell Fragrance during Silverman’s Standby Phase. Silverman Special Summoned Red Layer from his hand and Tarnok flipped Mask of Restrict. Silverman Set Domain of the True Monarchs and a card to his back row before passing his turn. In his End Phase, Tarnok activated Kozmojo. He destroyed his own Dark Destroyer to banish Red Layer, and then banished Dark Destroyer from his Graveyard to Special Summon Farmgirl to his field.

Tarnok added Dark Destroyer to his hand with Kozmotown and then attacked directly with Farmgirl, dropping Silverman down to 6500 Life Points. Next, he used Farmgirl’s effect to add Kozmojo from his Deck to his hand. He banished Farmgirl from his field to Special Summon Dark Destroyer from his hand and then used Dark Destroyer’s effect to have it destroy itself. He banished Dark Destroyer from his Graveyard to Special Summon Kozmoll Dark Lady from his Deck in Attack Position, and then attacked with Dark Lady. Tarnok Set 2 cards to his back row before passing his turn.

Silverman drew The Prime Monarch and then activated his face-down Tenacity of the Monarchs. He revealed Ehther the Heavenly Monarch from his hand to add Pantheism of the Monarchs from his Deck to his hand. He Set Pantheism and The Prime Monarch before Special Summoning Red Layer from his hand in Defense Position. Tarnok activated Call of the Haunted in the End Phase, Special Summoning Sliprider from his Graveyard and using its effect to destroy Domain of the True Monarchs. Next, he activated Kozmojo to destroy his Sliprider and banish Red Layer from the field. He banished Sliprider from his Graveyard to Special Summon Kozmo Strawman from his Deck.

Tarnok activated Strawman’s effect to Special Summon Sliprider to his field and then added Dark Destroyer to his hand with Kozmotown. He attacked directly with Sliprider, Dark Lady, and Strawman to wipe out the rest of Silverman’s Life Points!
