Top 16 Feature Match: Reinaldo Jose Lainez Diaz versus John Nguyen
Moving into Top 16 is Reinaldo Jose Lainez Diaz who has multiple YCS tops under his belt using Performapal Pendulum playing against John Nguyen who hails from Brooklyn NY. This is his first YCS top and he’s hoping to advance further into the playoff. Who will come out on top?
Game 1
Nguyen won the roll and elected to go first. He started off with 2 Set cards.
Diaz started with 2 copies of Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, Bottomless Trap Hole, Draco Face-Off, Archfiend Eccentric and Performapal Guitartle. He activated Archfiend Eccentric and used its effect to destroy Nguyen’s face-down Solemn Scolding. Diaz followed-up with Draco Face-Off, revealing Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer. Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord was chosen to be Special Summoned and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer went to the Extra Deck. Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer was then Normal Summoned then both monsters were used to Xyz Summon Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer. Performapal Guitartle was then activated, then Majester’s effect was activated, detaching Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer to Special Summon Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from the Extra Deck. Both monsters attacked directly, bringing Nguyen down to 4300. In Main Phase 2, Diaz set Bottomless Trap Hole and in the End Phase, Diaz searched Performapal Monkeyboard with Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer’s effect.
Nguyen drew, then activated Odd-Eyes Fusion, sending Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon and Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon whose effect bounced Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer to Diaz’s Extra Deck. Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer was then activated as a Pendulum Scale and its Pendulum Effect was used to destroy Diaz’s Performapal Guitartle. Sky Iris was activated and its effect was used to destroy Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer to add Performapal Odd-Eyes Performapal Odd-Eyes Light Phoenix to hand. Vortex Dragon attacked into and destroyed Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer.
Diaz set his newly drawn Pendulum Rising and passed.
Nguyen Normal Summoned Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and that was enough to earn the concession from Diaz.
Game 2
Diaz elected to go first. He started with a hand of 2 copies of Performapal Guitartle, Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Drowning Mirror Force and Pendulum Rising. He activated Performapal Guitartle and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer to draw Archfiend Eccentric. He set Drowning Mirror Force and Pendulum Rising, then set Archfiend Eccentric and passed.
Nguyen started off by activating Magical Abductor, followed by Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer whose effect destroyed itself, followed by another Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer who also destroyed itself, then activated Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, then used Magical Abductor’s effect to remove 3 counters to search for Performapal Monkeyboard. Then Nguyen Pendulum Summoned one Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from the Extra Deck and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer from the hand. Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer was used to destroy the scales and search Performapal Guitartle and Performapal Lizardraw. Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer were used to Xyz Summon Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer. Its effect was used to Special Summon Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from the Extra Deck. Luster and Performapal Skullcrobat Joker were tuned to Synchro Summon Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer whose effect destroyed Diaz’s Performapal Guitartle and sent the face-down Drowning Mirror Force back to the Deck. Nguyen attacked with both monsters and passed.
Diaz Normal Summoned Performapal Secondonkey whose effect was met with Nguyen’s Solemn Strike. Then Diaz’s Pendulum Archfiend Eccentric whose effect tried to destroy Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer but it was met with Solemn Scolding and there was nothing Diaz could do. He extended the handshake.
