Round 8 Feature Match: Ivan David Gonzalez Estupinan Versus Sebastian Leon Sanchez
Ivan David Gonzalez Estupinan is from right here, in Bogota, Colombia, and he’s currently got a 5-2 record with Majespecter Dracoslayer Performapals – a Deck that caught our attention back in our Round 6 Top Tables Update. His opponent is Sebastian Leon Sanchez from Bucaramanga, Colombia, playing a more conventional Dracoslayer Performapal build, but packing a few interesting tech choices.
This one should be pretty back-and-forth, but blowouts could occur at any time,
Sanchez opened the Match with Terraforming, searching Sky Iris to trade Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer for Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn. He activated it as a Pendulum Spell, then activated another Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, and Gonzalez activated the effect of Maxx “C”. Sanchez Pendulum Summoned his Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer back from the Extra Deck, and used its effect to destroy his Pendulum Scales; he searched Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and Performapal Monkeyboard.
Sanchez Normal Summoned Joker to search Performapal Lizardraw, activated Performapal Monkeyboard, then Performapal Lizardraw, and used Lizardraw’s effect to destroy itself and draw. He searched his last Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer with Monkeyboard, overlaid Sorcerer and Joker to Xyz Summon Traptrix Rafflesia, and gave Gonzalez another draw. He Set one card to his back row and ended.
Gonzalez had Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku; two Maxx “C”; Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer; Terraforming; Archfiend Eccentrick; and Solemn Warning. He searched Sky Iris with Terraforming, activated Eccentrick, and destroyed it to destroy Sanchez’s Set Solemn Warning. Gonzalez Summoned Bunbuku to search Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin, then activated Sky Iris. He activated Kirin as a Pendulum Spell, destroyed it with Sky Iris, and got Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn. He activated Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Odd-Eyes Unicorn, Pendulum Summoned Kirin, and used its effect to get back Bunbuku and bounce away Rafflesia. He Set Warning and ended, that Bunbuku locked and loaded for his next turn.
Sanchez discarded Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer for Twin Twisters, targeting Sky Iris and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, and immediately regretted not targeting Gonzalez’s back row. He activated Guiding Ariadne and blew it away with Sky Iris, revealing two Solemn Strikes and Chaos Trap Hole. Gonzalez gave him the Hole off Ariadne, and Sky Iris gave him Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn. He activated it as a Pendulum Spell, then Pendulum Summoned Performapal Odd-Eyes Light Phoenix and Performapal Lizardraw, clearly wary of Solemn Warning. Gonzalez flipped it to wipe away Sanchez’s field, and Sanchez Set one lone backrow card.
Gonzalez drew Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon and Normal Summoned Bunbuku again, searching another Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin. He activated Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon as a Pendulum Spell, Pendulum Summoned the second Kirin, and attacked direct with everything! Sanchez dropped to 800 Life Points. Gonzalez destroyed his Pendulum Dragon to search Performapal Monkeyboard.
Sanchez drew to one card in hand and Gonzalez immediately dropped Maxx “C”. Sanchez shook his head, then looked through his Graveyard, searching for answers that weren’t to be found. Eventually he activated Odd-Eyes Fusion, sending Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon and Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon to his Graveyard, and Special Summoned Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon. Gonzalez drew Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer with his Maxx “C” effect.
Sanchez Pendulum Summoned Ariadne and Sorcerer, and Gonzalez drew another Bunbuku. Sanchez destroyed his Monkeyboard with Sorcerer’s effect, and Gonzalez Chained Kirin’s effect, targeting Bunbuku and Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon to force the Dragon’s negation ability. Sanchez searched Performapal Drummerilla with Monkeyboard and activated it as a Pendulum Spell, and attacked Kirin with Vortex Dragon.
Gonzalez drew another Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn. He activated Performapal Monkeyboard to search Performapal Skullcrobat Joker, Summoned it, and searched Performapal Silver Claw. He drew out Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon’s effect with Kirin again, then Pendulum Summoned his second copy and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer. He overlaid Sorcerer and Joker to Xyz Summon Gagaga Cowboy and with Vortex Dragon’s negation already spent, that was it! Gonzalez burned away Sanchez’s last 800 Life Points with Cowboy’s effect, ending the Duel.
Sanchez opened Game 2 with Magical Abductor! He put a Counter on it by activating Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn, and Gonzalez dropped Maxx “C”. He Set a monster, and Set a Spell or Trap.
Gonzalez had Unexpected Dai; Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer; Performapal Silver Claw; Performapal Lizardraw; and Solemn Strike. He activated Unexpected Dai to Special Summon Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, and Sanchez had Maxx “C”! Gonzalez Normal Summoned Silver Claw, ran into Sanchez’s Set Guiding Ariadne, and gave him Solemn Warning. He made a direct attack with Master Pendulum and Set Solemn Strike.
Sanchez Pendulum Summoned Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon and Guiding Ariadne, and Gonzalez flipped Solemn Strike to negate it! Gonzalez Set another backrow.
Gonzalez drew another Maxx “C”, Summoned another Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, and attacked into Waboku.
Sanchez drew and Gonzalez activated the effect of Maxx “C”. He Set a monster and a backrow.
Gonzalez drew Odd-Eyes Fusion and attacked with Silver Claw, destroying Sanchez’s Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn. He made two direct attacks with both copies of Master Pendulum and Set Odd-Eyes Fusion as a bluff.
Sanchez Summoned Performapal Drummerilla and attacked over Performapal Silver Claw.
Gonzalez drew Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin and Sanchez flipped Vanity’s Emptiness! Gonzalez pressed on, Tributing a Master Pendulum to try and Summon Kirin, but Sanchez shut him down with the Solemn Warning from earlier. That cleared away Vanity’s Emptiness.
Sanchez drew and Pendulum Summoned Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, destroying his Abductor and Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn in his Pendulum Zones to search Performapal Monkeyboard and Performapal Skullcrobat Joker. He Summoned Joker to search Performapal Lizardraw, activated Monkeyboard and Lizardraw, and destroyed Lizardraw for its ability. He searched Odd-Eyes Unicorn with Monkeyboard, attacked over Master Pendulum with Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and Drummerilla’s ATK buff, and made direct attacks with Sorcerer and Drummerilla. The Duel stood at 2550 Life Points to 300. Sanchez made Diamond Dire Wolf to destroy Gonzalez’s bluffed Odd-Eyes Fusion.
Gonzalez drew and activated Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer and Performapal Lizardraw, Pendulum Summoning Performapal Silver Claw and both Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayers! That meant another Gagaga Cowboy, and that meant this Match was over.
Ivan David Gonzalez Estupinan takes the win over Sebastian Leon Sanchez, moving on with a 6-2 record, on track to make the Top 64.
