YCS Origins – Day 1 Recap
Day 1 of YCS Origins has come to a close. With eight rounds of Swiss play completed, we’ll have two more before cutting to the Top 32. The Duelists advancing to tomorrow’s portion of the tournament will be the ones with at least 16 points, or the top 128 Duelists (whichever group is larger).
So far, the majority of the field is comprised of a mixture of Kozmo, Monarchs, Burning Abyss, and Performapal Pendulum Decks. The Kozmo Decks are primarily using Card of Demise, while some are using Fire King Island. Monarchs seem to mostly be split into two variants. Most of them have been using Brilliant Fusion along with Gem-Knight Seraphinite, while a smaller number are using no Extra Deck to take advantage of Domain of the True Monarchs. Burning Abyss Decks are almost entirely using both Phantom Knights and Speedroids, though a small number eschew the Speedroids. Finally, the Pendulum Decks. Most are similar to the Performapal Dracoslayer builds we’ve seen for a while, but all kinds of variants are popping up, such as ones with Majespecters, Madolche, Mist Valley Apex Avian, Guiding Ariadne, and more. It’s hard to pin down any exact build for the average Pendulum Deck.
