YCS Origins – Top 8 Feature Match: Clifton Land versus Christian Georges

June 19th, 2016

Christian Georges is the only Monarch Duelist remaining in the tournament. He’s using an interesting build, without the Brilliant Fusion most other Monarch players used today. Instead, he has interesting choices like Emergency Teleport and Escalation of the Monarchs! His opponent is Clifton Land, using Performapal Dracoslayers. He can make big plays using Pendulum Summons and the Dracoslayer Extra Deck monsters.

Duel 1

Georges began with Emergency Teleport, Return of the Monarchs, Erebus the Underworld Monarch, Ehther the Heavenly Monarch, and Twin Twisters. He played Teleport to get Super Quantum Blue Layer, and put Super Quantum Red Layer in his hand. He activated Return of the Monarchs, and Tribute Summoned Red Layer. With Return of the Monarchs, he put Ehther the Heavenly Monarch in his hand. He Set Twin Twisters to finish.

Clifton Land

Land played Guiding Ariadne and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer in his Pendulum Zones. He had Master Pendulum destroy Guiding Ariadne, and he got Solemn Strike to his hand. Land played Archfiend Eccentrick to his Pendulum Zone next, and Pendulum Summoned the Guiding Ariadne from his Extra Deck and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from his hand. He Synchro Summoned Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer! Georges now flipped Twin Twisters, destroying Eccentrick and his own Return, by discarding Blue Layer. He banished Return from the Graveyard to play Ehther from his hand! He Tributed the Red Layer he’d previously Tribute Summoned. Ehther sent The Prime Monarch and Pantheism of the Monarchs to the Graveyard to Special Summon Kuraz. It destroyed itself and Ignister, and Georges drew Tenacity of the Monarchs. Land Set a back row card.

Georges drew another Return. He played it, then played Tenacity to get Escalation of the Monarchs, then Tribute Summoned Erebus, using Ehther. He sent The Prime Monarch and Return from his Deck to the Graveyard, and Erebus shuffled Master Pendulum back in the Deck. Return’s effect put Thestalos the Mega Monarch in his hand. Georges banished Pantheism from his Graveyard to add The Monarchs Stormforth to his hand. Finally, Erebus attacked directly. Georges Set Escalation and Stormforth, then revived The Prime Monarch to finish his turn.

Land played Magical Abductor in his Pendulum Zone, and Georges flipped Escalation of the Monarchs! He Tribute Summoned Mega Thestalos, and Return let him get Ehther to his hand. Mega Thestalos revealed Land’s hand of Performapal Lizardraw, Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn, and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer. Georges chose to discard the Sorcerer, dealing 800 damage.

.

Land decided to concede, knowing the combo of Return of the Monarchs and Escalation of the Monarchs was insurmountable!

Duel 2

Land chose to play first. He put Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Lector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord in his Pendulum Zones. He Normal Summoned Performapal Secondonkey, getting Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer to his hand. He Pendulum Summoned Sorcerer and Magical Abductor. Sorcerer destroyed his Pendulum Scales, letting him put Performapal Lizardraw and Performapal Guitartle in his hand. He activated activated Guitartle and Lizardraw, using their effects to draw two cards. Next, he played Draco Face-Off! He got put Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer in his Extra Deck, and Summoned Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord to the field. Magical Abductor’s effect let him get Effect Veiler to his hand! He stacked Abductor and Pendulum Sorcerer for Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer in Defense Position. It detached Magical Abductor for its effect. Next, Land tuned Luster and Vector for Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer. Its effect brought Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer to the field in Defense Position. Land stacked Master with Secondonkey for Abyss Dweller. He Set one to his back row. In the End Phase, he got Performapal Skullcrobat Joker thanks to his Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer’s effect.

Christian Georges

Georges had Erebus the Underworld Monarch, Pantheism of the Monarchs, Emergency Teleport, Super Quantum Red Layer, Speedroid Taketomborg, and Return of the Monarchs. He Special Summoned Red Layer, and played Emergency Teleport to put Super Quantum Blue Layer on the field. Blue Layer searched out another Red Layer to Georges’s hand. He played Pantheism, discarding Return to draw another Return and Ehther. Land responded with Abyss Dweller’s effect to keep Pantheism from using its effect in the Graveyard. Georges Normal Summoned Taketomborg, and stacked it with Blue Layer for Super Quantal Mech Beast Grampulse in Defense Position. He sent Red Layer to attack and destroy Abyss Dweller. Next, still in the Battle Phase, he used Grampulse to target Land’s back row card. It was a smart move, because Georges knew Land had Effect Veiler, but Land just Chained the target card: Solemn Strike! It destroyed Grampulse. Georges Set Return of the Monarchs.

Land used Ignister, destroying his Guitartle to shuffle away Red Layer. He played Terraforming next, getting Sky Iris, and activated that as well. He Normal Summoned Performapal Skullcrobat Joker, adding Performapal Monkeyboard to his hand. He activated Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer’s effect to get Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and combined it with Joker, for Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer! He played Performapal Monkeyboard and Performapal Silver Claw to his Pendulum Zones, and Pendulum Summoned Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer and Skullcrobat Joker. Georges only had his face-down Return of the Monarchs, and Land wasn’t afraid of it! He sent all his Dracoslayers to wipe out Georges’s Life Points!

.

Duel 3

Georges began with Fairy Wind, Escalation of the Monarchs, Return of the Monarchs, Super Quantum Red Layer, and Ehther the Heavenly Monarch. That Fairy Wind isn’t so great to see when you have multiple Continuous Spell & Trap Cards in your hand. He only Set Fairy Wind.

Land began his turn with Draco Face-Off, and Chained Twin Twisters. He discard Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, and destroyed his own Face-Off and the Set Fairy Wind. Draco Face-Off resolved, putting Lector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord in the Extra Deck, and Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer on the field. He played Guiding Ariadne and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer to his Pendulum Zones, and used Luster to destroy Ariadne. Ariadne’s effect put Chaos Trap Hole in his hand. Land played another Ariadne to his Pendulum Zone! That allowed him to Pendulum Summon Guiding Ariadne and Lector Pendulum. Ariadne, Master, and Lector attacked directly, putting Georges down to 2400 Life Points. Land used Lector and Ariadne for Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer, which brought back Master. He stacked Master and Ariadne for Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer, and had it bring Master back again. In the End Phase, Majester Paladin put Performapal Skullcrobat Joker in Land’s hand.

T8 G3 End

When Georges drew another Fairy Wind, he conceded! Clifton Land is the victor, with his Dracoslayers.
