Round 10 Feature Match: Robert Kenny versus Michael Egna

July 10th, 2016

Welcome to Day 2 of the North American World Championship Qualifier! We’re beginning the day with Bobby Kenny, from Orlando, FL, against Michael Egna, from Albany, NY. Each Duelist is using a Magician Pendulum Deck, though they’ve got some different card choices between their Decks. Specifically, Egna is using more Majespecter monsters and traps, while Kenny is using Performapal Splashmammoth for some extra Fusion power!

Duel One

Kenny won the dice roll and played first. He played Magical Abductor in the Pendulum Zone, and played Sky Iris. Dragonpit Magician went into the other Pendulum Zone, and Kenny used Sky Iris to destroy it and search for Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon. Pendulum Call was next, discarding Necrovalley to search out Dragonpit Magician and Wisdom-Eye Magician. With Magical Abductor, he added Performapal Skullcrobat Joker to his hand. He Normal Summoned Skullcrobat Joker, and searched out Performapal Splashmammoth. He played Dragonpit in the Pendulum Zone, and Pendulum Summoned Splashmammoth, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, and another Dragonpit! He used Splashmammoth’s effect to fuse Skullcrobat Joker and Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon for Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon!

Egna had Performapal Odd-Eyes Light Phoenix, Majespecter Fox – Kyubi, Oafdragon Magician, Nobledragon Magician, Wisdom-Eye Magician, and Xiangke Magician. He played Wisdom-Eye Magician and Oafdragon to his Pendulum Zones, and used Wisdom-Eye’s effect to get Dragonpit. He used Dragonpit’s effect, discarding Xiangke and destroyed Magical Abductor. Next, he Pendulum Summoned every monster in his hand! Kyubi searched out Majespecter Tempest. He stacked Kyubi and Wisdom-Eye for Number 39: Utopia, then upgraded that into Number S39: Utopia the Lightning! He next used Light Phoenix and Nobledragon for Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer! Utopia the Lightning wiped out Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon, and Ignister Prominence destroyed Splashmammoth. In Main Phase 2, he used Ignister’s effect to get rid of the two Dragonpits in Kenny’s Monster and Pendulum Zones.

Kenny played a Dragonpit and Wisdom-Eye Magician to his Pendulum Zones. Wisdom-Eye replaced itself with Oafdragon, and he used that to get Wisdom-Eye back to his hand. Sky Iris destroyed Oafdragon to look for Odd-Eyes Fusion. He played Wisdom-Eye again, and replaced it with another Oafdragon. He activated Odd-Eyes Fusion, using Dragonpit and Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon from his Extra Deck for another Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon! Its effect bounced away Utopia the Lightning, and he Pendulum Summoned Skullcrobat Joker, Splashmammoth, Oafdragon, and Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Now with a huge field of monsters, he was free to wipe out Egna’s remaining Life Points!

Duel Two

Egna began with Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku, Sky Iris, Magical Abductor, Wisdom-Eye Magician, and Dragonpit Magician. He played Abductor and Sky Iris, then played Bunbuku to search for Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin. He put Dragonpit to his Pendulum Zone, and used Sky Iris to destroy it and search for Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn. He played that to the Pendulum Zone as well, and used Abductor to get Majespecter Fox – Kyubi. He Pendulum Summoned Kirin, Kyubi, and Dragonpit, and used Kyubi to search out Majespecter Tempest. Egna then Set Tempest.

Michael Egna

Kenny played Performapal Monkeyboard to his Pendulum Zone, and searched for Performapal Skullcrobat Joker. He played that to search for Wisdom-Eye Magician, then played Sky Iris. It destroyed Monkeyboard, and put Odd-Eyes Fusion in his hand. He played Dragonpit and Wisdom-Eye Magician in the Pendulum Zones, and used Wisdom-Eye to get Oafdragon Magician. He used Dragonpit’s effect to destroy Egna’s Majespecter Tempest, discarding another Dragonpit. Kenny Pendulum Summoned Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon and Kirin from his hand, and Monkeyboard and Wisdom-Eye Magician from his Extra Deck! Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon attacked and destroyed Bunbuku, dealing 2600 battle damage thanks to its effect. Kenny’s Kirin attacked Kyubi next, for 500 damage. In Main Phase 2, he played Odd-Eyes Fusion, and Kirin bounced Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon and Egna’s own Dragonpit in response. Odd-Eyes Fusion had to resolve, and now fused the Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon from Kenny’s hand and Monkeyboard on the field, into Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon in Defense Position. That was a great response by Egna, because Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon now was left in the Graveyard, and wouldn’t be Pendulum Summoned later on. Kenny continued, and stacked Skullcrobat Joker and Wisdom-Eye for Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer in Defense Position. Egna’s Magical Abductor had been accumulating Spell Counters this whole turn, but Castel put Abductor back into the Deck before Egna could utilize it.

Egna drew Light Phoenix. He used Kirin’s effect on itself and Vortex Dragon, and Vortex Dragon negated it. Egna destroyed his Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn with Sky Iris, adding Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon to his hand. He played Dragonpit and Wisdom-Eye to the Pendulum Zones, and had Wisdom-Eye replaced itself with Oafdragon. With Oafdragon he put Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn in his hand, then used Dragonpit to discard it and destroy Kenny’s Sky Iris. He Pendulum Summoned Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, Kyubi, Bunbuku, and Wisdom-Eye! Both Majespecters activated, getting Majespecter Tempest and Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin to his hand. Egna’s Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon attacked Kenny’s Kirin, which bounced itself and Wisdom-Eye away. Odd-Eyes instead attacked and destroyed Castel. In Main Phase 2, Egna Normal Summoned Wisdom-Eye, and combined it with Kyubi for his own Castel! It sent Kenny’s Dragonpit to the Deck.

R10 G2 End

When Kenny drew his card next turn, he knew he had no way to make a comeback, and conceded!

Duel Three

Kenny chose to start the final Duel, and began with Performapal Monkeyboard to get Performapal Skullcrobat Joker to his hand. He played that to get Performapal Odd-Eyes Unicorn, and placed it in the Pendulum Zone. He Pendulum Summoned Performapal Odd-Eyes Light Phoenix and Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin in Defense Position, and Mist Valley Apex Avian in Attack Position!

Egna’s hand was Majespecter Tempest, Wisdom-Eye Magician, Terraforming, Majespecter Fox – Kyubi, Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin, and drew a second Kirin. He played Terraforming to get Sky Iris and played it. He put Kirin in the Pendulum Zone, tried using Sky Iris, and lost it to Kenny’s Mystical Space Typhoon. Egna played Wisdom-Eye in the Pendulum Zone, and Pendulum Summoned Kyubi. Its effect put Majespecter Tempest in his hand. Next, he Tribute Summoned Kirin and attacked Light Phoenix. Kenny responded by Tributing Light Phoenix to power up his Skullcrobat Joker. Egna Set his Tempest to finish his turn.

Kenny put Kirin in Attack Position, and Pendulum Summoned back his Light Phoenix. He sent Light Phoenix to attack, and used his Odd-Eyes Unicorn targeting his Skullcrobat Joker! Egna responded, using Kirin to target Apex Avian and itself. That allowed Light Phoenix to attack directly instead. Kenny’s Kirin attacked next, and Skullcrobat Joker attacked last. Kenny used his Light Phoenix’s effect, powering up Skullcrobat Joker enough to end the Match!
