Round 5 Feature Match: Eden Salins vs. Benjamin Ott
For our Round 5 Feature Match, we’ve got Eden Salins from St. Louis, Missouri. He’s using the popular Burning Abyss Deck, packing Phantom Knights and Speedroids to boost its power. His opponent is Benjamin Ott, from Indianapolis, Indiana, using a Qliphort Deck ‘teched’ out to beat the rest of the field.
Duel 1
Salins began by Special Summoning Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and Normal Summoning Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. He made Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, and sent Vanity’s Emptiness, Speedroid Terrortop, and Foolish Burial to the Graveyard, detaching Scarm. He Set a card to his back row, and searched with Scarm to get Tour Guide From the Underworld.
Ott started with Into the Void, Qliphort Carrier, Summoner’s Art, Drowning Mirror Force, Solemn Warning, and Qliphort Monolith. He played Summoner’s Art to add Qliphort Scout to his hand. He activated it in his Pendulum Zone, and paid 800 Life Points to search out Saqlifice. He Normal Summoned Qliphort Carrier and equipped it with Saqlifice. He activated Into the Void to draw Rivalry of Warlords. He played Qliphort Monolith to his second Pendulum Zone, and Set the rest of the cards in his hand. In the End Phase, Salins flipped Twin Twisters! He discarded Effect Veiler, destroying Ott’s Drowning Mirror Force and Solemn Warning!
Dante sent Scarm, Allure of Darkness, and Maxx “C” from the Deck to the Graveyard. Next, he played Tour Guide From the Underworld, and Ott flipped up Rivalry of Warlords! Salins chose to keep his Warrior-type Dante. He sent Dante to attack Carrier, which survived the battle thanks to Saqlifice. In the End Phase, Scarm searched out Graff.
Ott drew Necrovalley! He used Qliphort Scout, paying 800 Life Points to add Qliphort Shell to his hand. He Tributed Carrier to play Shell. Carrier’s effect bounced away Dante, and Ott used Saqlifice to add Qliphort Stealth to his hand. Salins activated Maxx “C” at this point. Ott attacked directly with Shell twice thanks to its effect, then played Necrovalley.
When Salins drew his next card, he conceded! In the face of Qliphort Shell and Necrovalley, he had no way to make a comeback.
Duel 2
Salins began with Allure of Darkness, banishing The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak. He Normal Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld, and it Special Summoned Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the field. He Xyz Summoned Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, and detached Libic for its effect to send The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots, Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard. Libic’s effect Special Summoned Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and he Special Summoned Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his hand as well. He stacked Cir and Graff for another Dante, and discarded Scarm to upgrade this Dante into Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal! He used Silent Boots from the Graveyard to add Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to his hand. He Set two cards to his back row, and used Scarm to get Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to his hand.
Ott had Solemn Warning, Pot of Duality, two Rivalry of Warlords, Necrovalley, and Into the Void. Salins flipped up Anti-Spell Fragrance, and Ott chose to Set every card in his hand! In the End Phase, Beatrice detached Graff to send The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak to the Graveyard. Graff’s effect Special Summoned Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. It self-destructed with its effect, and its Graveyard effect bounced away one Rivalry.
In Salins’s Draw Phase, Ott flipped up Rivalry. Salins kept the Fairy-type Beatrice, and used his Dante’s effect to put Calcab in his hand. He used Beatrice’s effect next, detaching Dante to send The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots to the Graveyard. That Dante’s effect put Scarm in his hand. He used the Silent Boots he just sent, adding another Fog Blade to his hand. Beatrice attacked directly, and Salins Set two more back row cards, then Set a monster.
Ott drew Qliphort Monolith. He flipped up Necrovalley, then flipped Pot of Duality. He revealed Card of Demise, Qlimate Change, and Qliphort Launch. He took Card of Demise. He Set it and Rivalry.

He Set Mystical Space Typhoon and Drowning Mirror Force, and Normal Summoned Qliphort Stealth. In the End Phase, he lost Qliphort Monolith due to Card of Demise.
Beatrice attacked and wiped out Qliphort Stealth, leaving Ott with just 2300 Life Points.
Ott drew Qlimate Change. He flipped Mystical Space Typhoon on Anti-Spell Fragrance, and Salins flipped another Fragrance! Ott Set Qlimate Change.
Beatrice attacked once again. Ott used Drowning Mirror Force, and Salins flipped Twin Twisters! He discarded Scarm to hit Necrovalley and Rivalry. Ott Chained his second Rivalry. When Beatrice left the field, the Cir Xyz Material revived Dante! Dante attacked directly, and Salins Set a monster. In the End Phase, Scarm’s effect put Cir in his hand. Ott used Qlimate Change to add Stealth back to his hand.
Ott drew Necrovalley. He Set it and played Stealth.
Salins passed.
Ott drew Qliphort Shell. He flipped up Necrovalley and passed.
Salins passed.
Ott drew Mystical Space Typhoon and Set it. With Anti-Spell Fragrance, Necrovalley, and Rivalry of Warlords all on the field, the Duelists were put into a waiting game, biding their time until they can build up a big play to overwhelm their opponent.
Salins passed, and discarded Farfa due to having too many cards in his hand.
Ott drew Qliphort Helix. He Tributed Stealth for Helix. It attacked, destroying Calcab. Calcab’s effect bounced away Solemn Warning, but Ott just Set it again.
Salins Set a monster and a back row card.
Ott drew Card of Demise. He used Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Anti-Spell Fragrance, then Normal Summoned Qliphort Shell. He played Card of Demise, drawing Qliphort Launch, Qliphort Stealth, and Into the Void. He played Stealth to his Pendulum Zone and Set Launch. Helix and Shell destroyed the Set Scarm and Cir in battle. In the End Phase, he lost Into the Void due to Card of Demise.
Salins played Raigeki, and Ott flipped Qliphort Launch to save his monsters. Salins Set a monster.
Ott drew Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries. He sent Helix to attack, and was blocked by Fog Blade.
Salins played Allure of Darkness, banishing Farfa. He played Twin Twisters, discarding Scarm to destroy Solemn Warning and Rivalry! With Rivalry gone, he was finally free to play Speedroid Terrortop and Speedroid Taketomborg! He Xyz Summoned Number 47: Nightmare Shark, and it attacked directly with its effect to end the Duel!
Duel 3
Ott began with Pot of Duality, Into the Void, Qliphort Stealth, Qliphort Shell, and Qliphort Helix. Duality revealed Qliphort Monolith, Summoner’s Art, and Starlight Road. He took Summoner’s Art, used it to get Qliphort Scout, and played that to search for Saqlifice. He Normal Summoned Helix and equipped it with Saqlifice, and Set Into the Void to finish.
Salins played Allure of Darkness, banishing Cir. He played The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak, Special Summoned The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots, and Xyz Summoned Super Quantal Mech Beast Grampulse. Its effect destroyed Qliphort Scout, detaching Silent Boots. Salins used Boots to search out Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade. He Set five back row cards to finish.
Ott drew Starlight Road, and Salins flipped Anti-Spell Fragrance. Ott Tributed his Helix for Stealth, and Salins used Solemn Warning! Helix’s effect destroyed Salins’s Set Fog Blade, and Saqlifice let Ott search out Qliphort Carrier. He Set Starlight Road and Into the Void.
Salins attacked directly with Grampulse, then used its effect to destroy Starlight Road, by detaching Ancient Cloak. Cloak’s effect got Silent Boots to the hand.
Ott’s Into the Void gave him another Into the Void. He Set it, and Set Qlimate Change. He Normal Summoned Carrier to finish.
Grampulse went to Defense Position.
He drew a third Into the Void and Set it.
Salins flipped Twin Twisters, hitting Into the Void and Qlimate Change, which was Chained to retrieve three Qliphorts. Salins continued, and his Ancient Cloak searched out The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves. He Normal Summoned it, and Special Summoned Silent Boots. He stacked the Gloves and Boots for Leviair the Sea Dragon! It brought a Silent Boots to the field, and Salins used a Fog Blade from the Graveyard to bring back his Ragged Gloves. He stacked Gloves and Boots for The Phantom Knights of Break Sword, powered up by the effect of Ragged Gloves! Break Sword’s effect destroyed Grampulse and Into the Void. Break Sword destroyed Carrier in battle, and Leviair attacked directly. Salins used Silent Boots to search out a Fog Blade, and Set it.
Ott drew Skill Drain. He played Helix, and Set Skill Drain. In the End Phase, Salins used Fog Blade on his own Leviair, then flipped Full House! He wiped out his own completely full back row, just to take out Ott’s Skill Drain! It was worth it, though, because that left nothing to possibly oppose him on the next turn, as he went in for the final attacks!
Eden Salins is the victor, with Phantom Knights!
