UDS Invitational Chicago: Finals Feature Match: Aaron Furman vs. Kamal Crooks
It all comes down to this! The winner of this Duel will be the Ultimate Duelist, taking home the UDS Championship Belt! It’s Aaron Furman’s Metalfoes up against Kamal Crooks’s Blue-Eyes White Dragons. It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Furman won the roll and chose to play first. He played Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer in one Pendulum Zone, and Metalfoes Goldriver in the other Pendulum Zone. Luster destroyed Goldriver to add another Metalfoes Goldriver to Furman’s hand. He played Metalfoes Silverd in his Pendulum Zone next, and Pendulum Summoned a Goldriver each from his hand and Extra Deck, in Attack Position. Silverd destroyed a Goldriver, and Furman Set Metalfoes Counter from his Deck. He Set another back row card.
Crooks had a hand of The White Stone of Legend, Master with Eyes of Blue, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Return of the Dragon Lords, The White Stone of Ancients, and Silver’s Cry. Furman flipped up Vanity’s Emptiness at the start of the turn! Crooks had no worthwhile plays to make, and decided to move on to Side Decking for the second Duel!
Duel 2
Crooks began with 2 copies of Trade-In, Dragon Spirit of White, The White Stone of Ancients, and Twin Twisters. Trade-In let him draw The White Stone of Legend and Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon by discarding Dragon Spirit of White. The second Trade-In let him draw a pair of Pot of Desires! He activated one to draw Return of the Dragon Lords and The White Stone of Ancients. He played Return of the Dragon Lords next, bringing Dragon Spirit of White to the field, and Normal Summoned The White Stone of Ancients. He Synchro Summoned Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon in Defense Position, Set Twin Twisters, and Special Summoned Blue-Eyes White Dragon with his White Stone’s effect.
Furman played his own Pot of Desires! He used Twin Twisters, discarding a second Pot of Desires, to destroy Crooks’s Twin Twisters. Painful Decision came next, with a Metalfoes Silverd being sent to his hand and to his Graveyard. He played Silverd and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer in his Pendulum Zones, and used Silverd to destroy Luster so he could put Metalfoes Counter on the field. He played another Silverd in his Pendulum Zone, and it destroyed the previous Silverd to search out another Metalfoes Counter. He played Metalfoes Steelen in his Pendulum Zone, and Pendulum Summoned Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin to the field in Defense Position!
Crooks drew Dragon Spirit of White. He Normal Summoned The White Stone of Legend, and played Pot of Desires. He drew Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon, but had only five cards left in his Deck! He Special Summoned Blue-Eyes Alternative, and turned Spirit Dragon to Attack Position. Blue-Eyes attacked Kirin, destroying it. Furman flipped Metalfoes Counter, and Special Summoned Metalfoes Goldriver in Defense Position. Spirit Dragon destroyed it, and Furman used his second Metalfoes Counter to Special Summon Metalfoes Volflame in Defense Position. Blue-Eyes Alternative took out Volflame, and The White Stone of Legend attacked directly for 300 points of damage. In Main Phase 2, Crooks Tuned Blue-Eyes with White Stone to Synchro Summon Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon in Defense Position, and used its effect. He banished The White Stone of Ancients from his Graveyard to add Blue-Eyes White Dragon to his hand, and passed to Furman.
Furman banished Metalfoes Counter from the Graveyard, and Spirit Dragon negated it. Furman used his second Counter in the Graveyard, and added Metalfoes Goldriver to his hand. He was stuck under the effects of Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon, but he could still Pendulum Summon one monster. He Pendulum Summoned Luster Pendulum, and Normal Summoned Goldriver. He had Silverd destroy Steelen in his Pendulum Zone so he could Set Metalfoes Fusion on the field… and realized he couldn’t use Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer as a Fusion Material! He conceded, having no way to overcome Crooks’s dragons.
Duel 3
Furman chose to play first. He Summoned Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku and added Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin to his hand with its effect. He played Metalfoes Goldriver in his Pendulum Zone and had it destroy Bunbuku, and he Set Metalfoes Counter on the field. He played Archfiend Eccentrick in the Pendulum Zone, and Pendulum Summoned Bunbuku and Kirin in Defense Position. He Set two more cards to his back row.
Crooks’s hand contained Dark Hole, Pot of Desires, Upstart Goblin, 2 Blue-Eyes White Dragons, and Cards of Consonance.
Pot of Desires drew another Pot of Desires and Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon. Upstart gave him Galaxy Soldier. He Special Summoned Blue-Eyes Alternative, and attacked Kirin. Kirin used its effect to bounce away Bunbuku and Blue-Eyes Alternative. In Main Phase 2, Crooks discarded Blue-Eyes White Dragon to Special Summon Galaxy Soldier, and lost it to Solemn Strike. Crooks Set everything he could to his back row.
Furman Normal Summoned Bunbuku, and added another Bunbuku to his hand with its effect. He used his Goldriver’s effect to destroy Bunbuku, and he Set Metalfoes Counter to the field. Then, he flipped his previously Set Counter to Special Summon Metalfoes Volflame. He Pendulum Summoned both of his Bunbukus to the field, and turned Kirin to Attack Position. He attacked with everything, leaving Crooks at 1200 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Furman used Eccentrick to destroy Crooks’s Set Cards of Consonance, then stacked his two Bunbukus to Xyz Summon Totem Bird.
Crooks drew Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon. He flipped Dark Hole, but Furman Chained Totem Bird’s effect to negate it. Crooks played Pot of Desires to draw Dragon Spirit of White and Twin Twisters, leaving himself with eight cards in his Deck. Twin Twisters came down, discarding Dragon Spirit of White to destroy Solemn Strike and Metalfoes Counter. Furman responded by flipping his last face-down card, which was another Metalfoes Counter. He Special Summoned Metalfoes Goldriver in Defense Position. Crooks Special Summoned Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon, and Kirin’s effect knocked it back to Crooks’s hand. Moments later, Crooks was shaking Furman’s hand!
Aaron Furman wins the UDS Invitational with Metalfoes!
