In the final round of Swiss, we’re featuring Chicago Duelist Jose Uriel Diaz, and today is his birthday! He’s using a 50 card Kozmo Deck with Pot of Desires. His opponent is Stephen Honda from Kalamazoo, MI. Honda is also using Kozmos, and these two are among the few Kozmo Duelists left in the tournament.

Duel 1

Uriel Diaz began with Kozmo Sliprider, Fire King Island, Emergency Teleport, Kozmo Dark Eclipser, and Kozmo Tincan. He played Fire King Island, destroying the Sliprider in his hand, and he added Fire King Avatar Garunix to his hand. Sliprider Special Summoned Kozmo Soartroopers in Defense Position. He Normal Summoned Garunix, played Teleport to Special Summon Kozmo Strawman, and used its effect to Special Summon the banished Sliprider. He stacked Garunix and Soartroopers for Super Quantal Mech Beast Grampulse, and it destroyed Fire King Island. That wiped his field, and he Special Summoned another Soartroopers with Sliprider’s effect. Soartroopers brought back the Soartroopers from his Graveyard, which revived Strawman, which Special Summoned the banished Sliprider again. Sliprider was destroyed in the End Phase, and it Special Summoned Tincan to the field. Using Tincan’s effect, Uriel Diaz revealed Kozmo Landwalker, Kozmoll Dark Lady, and Kozmo Sliprider. Sliprider was added to his hand. Uriel Diaz banished Tincan to Special Summon Dark Eclipser from his hand to finish his turn.

Honda Normal Summoned Kozmo Farmgirl and went to the Battle Phase. Farmgirl destroyed Soartroopers, then Honda banished Farmgirl to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer! Its effect targeted Soartroopers, and Uriel Diaz banished the Soartroopers to Special Summon Sliprider. Honda’s Dark Destroyer attacked Uriel Diaz’s Dark Eclipser, and both monsters were destroyed. Honda Special Summoned Sliprider to the field, and Uriel Diaz added Dark Destroyer to his hand. When Sliprider attacked Soartroopers, Uriel Diaz banished the Soartroopers to Special Summon his Dark Destroyer and block the attack. Uriel Diaz didn’t use Dark Destroyer’s effect, likely not wanting Honda to get one of his Psychic monsters. In Main Phase 2, Honda used Kozmotown to add Dark Destroyer back to his hand. Then, he used Kozmotown to shuffle away a Kozmo Forerunner and draw a new card. He Set two cards to his back row to finish his turn.

Uriel Diaz drew Kozmo Forerunner. He Normal Summoned Tincan and moved to the Battle Phase. He attacked, and Honda flipped Storming Mirror Force! Uriel Diaz lost everything, and immediately conceded!

Duel 2

Uriel Diaz chose to play first for this Duel, with a hand of Kozmoll Wickedwitch, 2 Twin Twisters, and 2 Kozmo Strawman. He Normal Summoned Wickedwitch and Set both Twisters.

Honda Summoned Tincan, Set three cards to his back row, and used Card of Demise! Then he… just ended his turn! He’d drawn 2 Sliprider and a Tincan, and had to discard them. He used his on-field Tincan’s effect, choosing Dark Eclipser, Dark Destroyer, and Kozmotown. He got Eclipser to his hand and sent the other 2 cards to his Graveyard. In the End Phase, Uriel Diaz discarded both of his Strawmen for both Twin Twisters, wiping out Honda’s Oasis of Dragon Souls, Call of the Haunted, and Xyz Universe!

Uriel Diaz drew Fire King Island. He attacked with Wickedwitch, forcing Honda to use his Tincan to Special Summon Dark Eclipser.

Honda Set a card. He sent Dark Eclipser to attack Wickedwitch, and Uriel Diaz used Wickedwitch’s effect to protect it.

Uriel Diaz drew Kozmo Landwalker. He played Fire King Island, destroying his Landwalker to get Sliprider to the field and Garunix to his hand. Sliprider’s effect took out Honda’s Set Torrential Tribute. He sent his Sliprider to crash into Honda’s Dark Eclipser, and Sliprider Special Summoned Kozmo Soartroopers in Defense Position. He turned his Wickedwitch to Defense Position as well. He revived a Strawman with Soartroopers, and had Strawman Special Summon Sliprider. Sliprider was destroyed in the End Phase, and Special Summoned Tincan. Tincan added Dark Eclipser to Uriel Diaz’s hand.

Honda used Pot of Duality, revealing Terraforming, Kozmotown, and Breakthrough Skill. He took Terraforming, used it to get Kozmotown, but didn’t play it yet. Dark Eclipser attacked Tincan, destroying it. In Main Phase 2, he played Kozmotown and added Kozmo Tincan to his hand. He shuffled it back into his Deck, drew up to one card in his hand, and Set it. Uriel Diaz banished Wickedwitch to Special Summon Dark Eclipser in the End Phase.

Uriel Diaz drew Pot of Desires! He used it to draw Call of the Haunted and Terraforming. He used Soartroopers to Special Summon Kozmo Strawman from the Graveyard, and Strawman Special Summoned Landwalker. He stacked both of his Strawmen for Sky Cavalry Centaurea! He Normal Summoned Garunix and stacked it with Soartroopers for Super Quantal Mech Beast Grampulse. Grampulse’s effect destroyed Honda’s Kozmojo. Uriel Diaz continued with Terraforming, grabbing Kozmotown. He used Fire King Island to destroy Landwalker, adding Fire King Avatar Yaksha to his hand and Kozmo Goodwitch to his field. Centaurea attacked Honda’s Dark Eclipser, and returned it to the hand. Goodwitch, Dark Eclipser, and Grampulse attacked directly. Uriel Diaz was just barely in the lead, with 1200 Life Points to Honda’s 800. He played Terraforming, getting Kozmotown, and activated it over his Fire King Island. The Island activated, wiping out his entire field! Dark Eclipser added Dark Destroyer to his hand, and he used Kozmotown to shuffle his Sliprider back into the Deck. He drew Kozmojo and Set it, along with Call of the Haunted.

In Honda’s Standby Phase, he used Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Kozmo Forerunner. Honda used Kozmotown to return Dark Eclipser and Strawman to his Deck and draw two new cards. He played a new Kozmotown, and Uriel Diaz flipped Kozmojo! Honda had no further plays, and Uriel Diaz evened up the score! It’ll all come down to this final Duel.

Duel 3

Honda started with Pot of Duality, revealing Solemn Strike, Sliprider, and Call of the Haunted. He took Sliprider, and Set three to his back row. He played Card of Demise, and Set a fourth and fifth card to his back row. He ended his turn, and discarded his hand.

Uriel Diaz’s hand was Emergency Teleport, Kozmotown, Kozmo Tincan, 2 Kozmo Dark Planet, and Sliprider. He played Tincan and lost it to Solemn Strike. He activated Kozmotown, and returned Tincan to his hand. He Special Summoned Dark Planet, banishing the other Planet, then used Kozmotown to shuffle away Tincan, drawing Raigeki. Dark Planet attacked, and Honda used Call of the Haunted to revive Sliprider. He then used Kozmojo to destroy his Sliprider and banish Dark Planet! Sliprider Special Summoned Tincan to Honda’s field, but it was destroyed by Raigeki. Uriel Diaz used Emergency Teleport, Honda flipped Magic Deflector, and then flipped his own Emergency Teleport! He Special Summoned Tincan to the field. Uriel Diaz had no further plays, with just a Sliprider in hand and Kozmotown on the field. Honda used his Tincan’s effect to add Kozmo Strawman to his hand, then banished Tincan to Special Summon the Strawman.

Honda used Strawman’s effect to Special Summon Sliprider, and it attacked directly. Honda Set his last card to the back row. In the End Phase, Sliprider was destroyed and Special Summoned Tincan. Its effect added Kozmo Forerunner to his hand.

Uriel Diaz drew Kozmo Goodwitch. He used Kozmotown to add Dark Planet to his hand, then shuffled it away to draw Strawman. He Normal Summoned Goodwitch and destroyed Tincan in battle, then banished Goodwitch to Special Summon Sliprider. It destroyed Honda’s Breakthrough Skill, but when it attacked Strawman Honda banished the Strawman and Special Summoned Forerunner. Sliprider replayed its attack into Forerunner, and when it was destroyed it Special Summoned Strawman to the field. Strawman Special Summoned Tincan, and Tincan’s effect added Sliprider to Uriel Diaz’s hand.

Honda gained 1000 Life Points with Forerunner and sent it to attack Strawman. Uriel Diaz banished Strawman to Special Summon Sliprider in Defense Position. Uriel Diaz had Sliprider destroyer his own Kozmotown, so he could search for Dark Destroyer. Forerunner destroyed Tincan instead.

Uriel Diaz drew Strawman. He Normal Summoned it and Special Summoned Sliprider. He stacked his two Sliprider for Cyber Dragon Nova, and upgraded that into Cyber Dragon Infinity! He banished Strawman to Special Summon Dark Destroyer, had it destroy itself, and Special Summoned another Strawman to the field. Strawman then Special Summoned the same banished Dark Destroyer with its effect negated. Dark Destroyer attacked Forerunner, and Infinity negated Forerunner’s effect. Infinity attacked directly as well. In the End Phase, Dark Destroyer was destroyed and Special Summoned Sliprider to wipe out Honda’s Set Escape from the Dark Dimension.

When Honda saw his next card, he offered the handshake!
