Alex Vansant is here from the Detroit area, and he’s brought something he calls “52 Card Blackwing Burning Abyss Phantom Knight Speedroids.” It’s a huge Deck, filled with a variety of strategies that all mix well together. The 52 cards is so he can comfortably use three copies of Pot of Desires. His opponent is a Chicago Duelist, Edd Punzalan, who is using Metalfoes. Metalfoes are the new Pendulum cards from The Dark Illusion, and he’s put them together with some of the best older Pendulums like Majespecters.

Duel 1

Vansant won the die roll and chose to play first. He began with a hand of The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak, 2 Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Blackwing – Gofu the Vague Shadow. He Special Summoned Gofu, played Ancient Cloak, and Synchro Summoned PSY-Framelord Omega. He banished Omega and the Pot of Desires from Punzalan’s hand. He Special Summoned Scarm and Barbar, then used Ancient Cloak to add The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots to his hand. He Xyz Summoned Leviair the Sea Dragon, and its effect Special Summoned Ancient Cloak. He Special Summoned Silent Boots, and Xyz Summoned Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss. For Dante’s effect he detached Silent Boots, and sent Reinforcement of the Army, Solemn Warning, and Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard. He banished Silent Boots to search for Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade. He discarded Scarm so he could upgrade Dante into Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal in Defense Position. He Set Fog Blade to finish the turn.

Punzalan began the same way, by Special Summoning Blackwing – Gofu the Vague Shadow! He Special Summoned two Vague Shadow Tokens, then played Metalfoes Silverd in his Pendulum Zone. Silverd destroyed a Token to Set Metalfoes Combination from the Deck, then he played a Pot of Desires to draw two cards. He Normal Summoned Speedroid Terrortop, and searched out Speedroid Taketomborg. Vansant decided now was the time to use Beatrice, detaching Ancient Cloak to send Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard. Graff Special Summoned Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. Farfa’s Continuous Effect made it self-destruct, and its Graveyard effect banished Terrortop for the turn. Punzalan Set one more back row card to finish.

Vansant drew Foolish Burial. PSY-Framelord Omega returned itself to the field, and Punzalan returned his Pot of Desires. Vansant banished Ancient Cloak from the Graveyard to add Silent Boots to his hand. Leviair detached Scarm to Special Summon Ancient Cloak back to the field, and Vansant played Silent Boots as well. He used the Phantom Knights to Xyz Summon The Phantom Knights of Break Sword. He detached Silent Boots, and Break Sword destroyed Leviair and Metalfoes Silverd. He switched Beatrice to Attack Position, and moved to the Battle Phase! PSY-Framelord Omega destroyed Terrortop in battle, Break Sword destroyed Gofu, and Beatrice destroyed the last Vague Shadow Token. Punzalan flipped Metalfoes Counter and Special Summoned Metalfoes Steelen from his Deck. In Main Phase 2, Vansant banished Silent Boots from the Graveyard to put Fog Blade in his hand. He used Scarm to add Tour Guide From the Underworld to his hand.

Punzalan played Archfiend Eccentrick in his Pendulum Zone, and used it to destroy Vansant’s Set Fog Blade. He Set two cards to his back row, then Normal Summoned Jowgen the Spiritualist! In response to the Summon, Vansant used PSY-Framelord Omega’s effect. It banished itself as well as the only card left in Punzalan’s hand, Speedroid Taketomborg. Now that Omega had taken out a card he didn’t need, Punzalan flipped up the Pot of Desires he’d just Set! He used Jowgen’s effect, randomly discarding Vanity’s Emptiness. Vansant responded with Beatrice, detaching Dante to put Scarm in the Graveyard. Dante’s effect returned Barbar to his hand. Jowgen wiped out Vansant’s monsters, and attacked directly. Vansant dropped to 7800 Life Points, while Punzalan had 6600.

Vansant drew Fog Blade, and realized he’d forgotten to search with Scarm. Omega returned itself to the field and Taketomborg to Punzalan’s hand. Vansant used Foolish Burial for Farfa, banishing Jowgen for the turn. He played Tour Guide next, and Punzalan responded with Maxx “C”! Tour Guide Special Summoned Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the Deck. He Xyz Summoned Leviair the Sea Dragon. Vansant banished Ancient Cloak from the Graveyard to search out Silent Boots. Leviair detached Cir to get Ancient Cloak back, and Cir brought back Graff. Graff self-destructed, and it Special Summoned Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. Libic self-destructed, and it Special Summoned Barbar. Punzalan had used two copies of Pot of Desires already, and Maxx “C” was making him draw the rest of his Deck! With only three cards remaining, while Vansant was still making a flurry of Special Summons, he knew his own Maxx “C” was going to leave him with no cards in the Deck!

Duel 2

Punzalan played Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku, which put Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin in his hand. He played two copies of Metalfoes Silverd in his Pendulum Zones, and had one destroy the other to Set Metalfoes Counter from the Deck. He played Metalfoes Steelen in his Pendulum Zone, and it destroyed Bunbuku to search out Metalfoes Combination. He Pendulum Summoned Bunbuku and Silverd from the Extra Deck, and Kirin from his hand, all in Defense Position.

Vansant had Solemn Strike, Solemn Warning, 2 Speedroid Taketomborg, Speedroid Terrortop, and Raigeki. He Special Summoned Terrortop, and sent it to destroy Bunbuku in battle. He Set Solemn Warning, then played Raigeki to destroy Silverd. He Special Summoned Taketomborg, and Xyz Summoned Dante. Punzalan used Kirin to return itself and Dante to the hand. Vansant Set Solemn Strike to finish.

Punzalan Special Summoned Terrortop, and Vansant flipped Solemn Strike. He played Cosmic Cyclone to banish Vansant’s Solemn Warning, and Vansant immediately conceded! He knew the round timer was running low, and he probably wasn’t going to win this Duel anyway.

Duel 3

Vansant chose to play first, with a hand of Pot of Desires, Silent Boots, Gofu, Alich, and Terrortop. He Special Summoned Gofu, Normal Summoned Silent Boots, and Synchro Summoned PSY-Framelord Omega. Its effect banished itself and Punzalan’s Archfiend Eccentrick. He continued, by Special Summoning Terrortop. It searched for Taketomborg, and Silent Boots searched for Fog Blade. He played Pot of Desires, and drew Fog Blade and Scarm. As he did that, the round timer ended. After this, the Duel would end in five turns – the player with the highest Life Points wins. Vansant Special Summoned Taketomborg, and Xyz Summoned Dante in Defense Position. Dante sent Scarm, Ancient Cloak, and Silent Boots to the Graveyard. Ancient Cloak’s effect put Silent Boots in his hand. He discarded Alich so he could upgrade Dante into Beatrice in Defense Position. He Set both of his Fog Blades, and used Scarm to get Tour Guide to his hand.

Punzalan Normal Summoned Bunbuku, and it let him grab Kirin from the Deck. He played Metalfoes Goldriver in his Pendulum Zone, and used it to destroy Bunbuku and search out Metalfoes Combination. He played Archfiend Eccentrick in his Pendulum Zone, and used it to destroy his own Metalfoes Combination. Its effect put Metalfoes Volflame in his hand. He activated it in his Pendulum Zone, then used Cosmic Cyclone to banish one of Vansant’s Fog Blades. Punzalan Pendulum Summoned Kirin, Bunbuku, and Archfiend Eccentrick. Kirin used its effect, targeting Eccentrick and Beatrice. Vansant Chained Beatrice’s effect, detaching Dante to send Graff to the Graveyard. Kirin bounced away the monsters, then Graff and Dante started a new Chain. Dante targeted Graff to return to the hand, and Graff’s effect Special Summoned Scarm from the Deck. Punzalan used Metalfoes Volflame to destroy his Goldriver, and he Set Metalfoes Counter from his Deck. He activated Eccentrick in his Pendulum Zone, and finally passed his turn.

Vansant drew Twin Twisters. PSY-Framelord Omega returned to the field, and gave back Punzalan’s Archfiend Eccentrick. Due to Omega’s presence, Scarm destroyed itself. Vansant Normal Summoned Tour Guide, and Punzalan used Maxx “C” in response. Tour Guide Special Summoned Farfa from the Deck. He Xyz Summoned Dante. He detached Tour Guide, sending Farfa, Terrortop, and Lullaby of Obedience to the Graveyard. In the Battle Phase, PSY-Framelord Omega attacked Kirin. Punzalan used Kirin’s effect, and bounced away Bunbuku and Dante. Kirin lost the battle with Omega, and Punzalan dropped to 6200 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Silent Boots searched out Phantom Knights’ Wing. He Set Wing and Twin Twisters.

In the Standby Phase, PSY-Framelord Omega returned Ancient Cloak to the Graveyard. Punzalan Special Summoned Terrortop, and Vansant flipped Fog Blade to negate it. Punzalan continued by Normal Summoning Bunbuku, and it searched for another Bunbuku. He stacked Bunbuku and Terrortop for The Phantom Knights of Break Sword, and had it destroy itself and Vansant’s Phantom Knights’ Wing. Vansant Chained Wing, targeting Omega. Punzalan flipped Metalfoes Counter, and Special Summoned Metalfoes Silverd from the Deck. He used his Eccentrick next, to destroy Vansant’s Set Twin Twisters. Vansant Chained it, destroying Metalfoes Volflame and his own face-up Fog Blade. He discarded Silent Boots for the cost. Punzalan played another Eccentrick and Bunbuku in his Pendulum Zones, and Pendulum Summoned Kirin. Vansant tried to use Omega’s effect before the Battle Phase, and Punzalan Chained Kirin’s effect, bouncing away Omega and his own Metalfoes Silverd. Kirin attacked directly, and Vansant banished Fog Blade to Special Summon Silent Boots. Kirin destroyed it in battle.

Vansant drew Anti-Spell Fragrance. He still had 8000 Life Points, to Punzalan’s 6200. This would be Vansant’s final turn in the End of Match procedures. He just needed to stay higher in Life Points for one more turn. He Special Summoned Scarm and Graff with their effects. He Set Anti-Spell Fragrance and passed. In the End Phase, Kirin bounced itself and Graff.

Vansant flipped Anti-Spell Fragrance in the Standby Phase, but Punzalan used Eccentrick to destroy it. He Special Summoned Blackwing – Gofu the Vague Shadow, then Normal Summoned Terrortop. Its effect put Taketomborg in his hand. He played Metalfoes Silverd in his Pendulum Zone, and it destroyed Bunbuku so he could Set Metalfoes Fusion from the Deck. Next, he Synchro Summoned Scrap Dragon! Scrap Dragon destroyed his Set Metalfoes Fusion and Scarm. With Metalfoes Fusion’s effect, he returned it to the Deck and drew a card. With Vansant’s field open, Scrap Dragon attacked directly! Now that his Life Points were higher, Punzalan won the Duel and the Match!
