Welcome to Day 2 of YCS Minneapolis!  Today, we’re playing an additional 2 Swiss Rounds today before the field is reduced to the Top 32.  We’re at Table 7 for Round 9, covering Frazier Smith from Philadelphia PA piloting a 51-card Metalfoes / Majespecter Deck featuring Ties of the Brethren.  You can read all about Ties of the Brethren and its uses this weekend in yesterday’s Tech Update.  His opponent is Eden Salins from St. Louis, Missouri running Phantom Knights / Burning Abyss.  Each Duelist has 7 wins and one more win will give these players a very good chance of making it to the playoff cut.  Who’s gonna get there?  Let’s find out!  It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Smith won the roll and elected to go first.  He started off with Metalfoes Goldriver, Ties of the Brethren, Metalfoes Volflame, Painful Decision and Metalfoes Fusion.  He started off with Painful Decision sending Metalfoes Steelen to the Graveyard and adding one to his hand.  He then activated that Steelen to the Pendulum Zone followed by Metalfoes Volflame.  He then used Metalfoes Steelen’s effect to destroy the Metalfoes Volflame and Set Metalfoes Counter from the Deck.  He then activated Metalfoes Goldriver to the Pendulum Zone.  Next, he Pendulum Summoned Metalfoes Volflame from the Extra Deck, then used Metalfoes Goldriver’s effect to destroy Metalfoes Steelen to Set Metalfoes Combination from the Deck.  He set Metalfoes Fusion and passed.

Salins started off with Twin Twisters, discarding The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak to destroy the face-down Metalfoes Fusion and Metalfoes Counter.  He then banished Ancient Cloak to add The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots from his Deck to his hand.  Foolish Burial came down next, sending a Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard which then Special Summoned Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss.  Next, Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss was Special Summoned, and the 2 Burning Abyss monsters were used to Xyz Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon!  Its effect was activated, detaching Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to Special Summon The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak.  Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss’s effect bounced the Metalfoes Combination.  The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots was then Special Summoned and both were combined for Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss!  Silent Boots was detached to send 3 cards to the Graveyard.  Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss then attacked Metalfoes Volflame, and Leviair the Sea Dragon attacked directly.  In Main Phase 2, Salins sent Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard to Xyz Summon Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal! He set one card and in the End Phase Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss searched for Tour Guide From the Underworld.

Smith drew Majespecter Tornado for turn.  He used Metalfoes Fusion’s effect to shuffle it back into the Deck to draw Terraforming.  He banished Metalfoes Counter to add back Metalfoes Steelen which was immediately placed in the Pendulum Zone.  He then activated Terraforming to add Majesty’s Pegasus to his hand which was activated, followed by Metalfoes Goldriver’s effect to destroy the Majesty’s Pegasus and set Metalfoes Counter from the Deck.  He then Pendulum Summoned Metalfoes Volflame from the Extra Deck and used it to attack Leviair the Sea Dragon, but Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal used its effect, detaching Ancient Cloak and sending Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard.  Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss’s effect banished Metalfoes Volflame until the end of the turn.  In Main Phase 2, he used Metalfoes Steelen to destroy the Metalfoes Goldriver in the Pendulum Zone and Set Metalfoes Fusion from the Deck.  He then set Metalfoes Combination and Majespecter Tornado.  In the End Phase, Metalfoes Volflame was returned to the field.

Salins used Leviair the Sea Dragon to Special Summon The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots, and the detached Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss activated to banish Metalfoes Volflame again.  The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak was banished to add another The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots from the Deck to his hand.  Speedroid Taketomborg was Special Summoned since Leviair is a WIND monster, and it and The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots were used to Xyz Summon The Phantom Knights of Break Sword!  Its effect was used to destroy Salins’s face-down Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade and Smith’s set Metalfoes Counter.  Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal’s effect was used to send Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard, the detached Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss was used to bounce the face-down Metalfoes Combination, and Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss was used to get back Farfa.  Salins then used the in-Graveyard Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to Special Summon The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots from the Graveyard and then Special Summoned another Silent Boots from his hand and used those monsters to make a second The Phantom Knights of Break Sword!  He used the effect to destroy Leviair the Sea Dragon and another of Smith’s face-down cards, but that was enough and Smith conceded the first game.

Duel Two

Smith elected to go first.  He started off with Metalfoes Steelen, Terraforming, Pot of Desires, Majesty’s Pegasus, and Archfiend Eccentric.  Terraforming was used to find another Majesty’s Pegasus from the Deck.  He then activated Pot of Desires!  Smith banished the top 10 cards of the Deck face-down to draw Metalfoes Volflame and Majespecter Toad – Ogama.  He then Normal Summoned Majespecter Toad – Ogama to set Majespecter Tornado directly from the Deck.  He then activated Metalfoes Steelen top destroy Majespecter Toad – Ogama and set Metalfoes Combination directly from the Deck.  He then activated Archfiend Eccentric and used its effect to destroy itself and Metalfoes Combination and Combination’s in-Graveyard effect was used to add Metalfoes Goldriver from his Deck to his hand.  He then activated Metalfoes Goldriver as a Pendulum Scale and then Pendulum Summoned Majespecter Toad – Ogama and Archfiend Eccentric from the Extra Deck and Metalfoes Volflame from his hand.  Majesty’s Pegasus came down next, Tributing Majespecter Toad – Ogama to Special Summon Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku from the Deck, and its effect was used to add another Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku to his hand.  He then used Metalfoes Goldriver’s effect to destroy Archfiend Eccentric and Set Metalfoes Counter from the Deck.

Salins started off with Twin Twisters discarding The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots to destroy Metalfoes Counter and Majespecter Tornado.  Next, Speedroid Terrortop was Special Summoned, searching for Speedroid Taketomborg.  He then banished The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots to add Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to his hand, then Special Summoned Speedroid Taketomborg to Summon Leviair the Sea Dragon, and its effect was used to Special Summon The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots. Salins then Normal Summoned another Speedroid Terrortop and the two monsters were used to Xyz Summon Super Quantal Mech Beast Grampulse and its effect was used, detaching The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots to destroy Majesty’s Pegasus.  The 2 Xyz Monsters were combined to Xyz Summon Number F0: Utopic Future!  It declared an attack on Metalfoes Volflame, taking it for the Battle Phase and Metalfoes Volflame was used to attack into Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku.  Salins passed the Metalfoes Volflame back to Smith at the end of the Battle Phase.  Salins set 3 cards to the back and passed.

Smith drew Blackwing – Gofu the Vague Shadow for his turn.  He attempted to Pendulum Summon Majespecter Toad – Ogama and Archfiend Eccentric but the Summon was negated by Salins’s Solemn Strike!  He then Normal Summoned Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku and its effect was used to search for Majespecter Fox – Kyubi.  He activated Majesty’s Pegasus and used its effect, Tributing Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku to Special Summon Majespecter Crow – Yata from the Deck.  He activated Majespecter Crow – Yata’s effect but Salins chained Anti-Spell Fragrance!  Smith added Majespecter Storm to his hand with Majespecter Crow – Yata’s effect.  He set Majespecter Storm and passed.

Salins switched Utopic Future to Defense Position and used The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots from the Graveyard to add Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to his hand.  He Set a card to the back and passed.

Smith drew Metalfoes Volflame for his turn.  He Normal Summoned Majespecter Fox – Kyubi, and used its effect to add Majespecter Tornado to his hand.  He flipped up Majespecter Storm, Tributing Majespecter Crow – Yata and shuffling F0 back to the Extra Deck.  Smith then Pendulum Summoned Majespecter Crow – Yata, Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku and Metalfoes Volflame form the Extra Deck!  Raccoon’s effect added Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin from Deck to hand.  Majesty’s Pegasus’s effect was used, Tributing Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku to Special Summon another Majespecter Crow – Yata from the Deck.  All three Majespecters then attacked to wipe out the rest of Salins’s Life Points!  We’re going into game 3 with about 7 minutes left in the round!

Duel Three

Salins elected to go first.  He started off by Special Summoning Speedroid Terrortop, searching for Speedroid Taketomborg, which was Special Summoned and combined for Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss!  He detached Terrortop and sent Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Twin Twisters and The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots to the Graveyard.  The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots was banished to add Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to his hand.  Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss was sent to the Graveyard to Xyz Summon Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal!  He then set 3 cards and passed.

Smith started off with Painful Decision, sending Metalfoes Steelen to the Graveyard and adding another one to hand.  He then Normal Summoned Majespecter Toad – Ogama, using its effect to Set Majespecter Tornado from the Deck.  He then activated Metalfoes Steelen and Metalfoes Goldriver as Pendulum Scales.  He used Metalfoes Steelen’s effect, destroying Metalfoes Goldriver and searching for Metalfoes Counter.  He Set another Majespecter Tornado and Metalfoes Counter and passed.  In the End Phase, Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal sent Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard, which bounced the Majespecter Tornado that Salins knew was set.

Salins turned Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal to Attack Position and attacked into Majespecter Toad – Ogama but Smith flipped-up the second Majespecter Tornado, Tributing Majespecter Toad – Ogama and targeting Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal, whose effect was chained, sending Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard.  Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss Special Summoned Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss in Attack Position and Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss’s effect got back Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss.  Speedroid Terrortop was Normal Summoned, destroying Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss whose effect Special Summoned Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and the 2 were combined for Super Quantal Mech Beast Grampulse whose effect destroyed Metalfoes Counter, clearing Smith’s back row.  Time was called during the turn, so this Match will end in 5 more turns!

Smith drew Metalfoes Volflame for turn.  He activated Twin Twisters, discarding Metalfoes Combination, hitting Solemn Strike and Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade.  He continued on by activating Metalfoes Volflame in the Pendulum Zone and using Metalfoes Steelen’s effect to destroy the Volflame and Setting Metalfoes Counter from the Deck.  Metalfoes Counter was banished from the Graveyard to add the Metalfoes Goldriver in the Extra Deck back to Smith’s hand, which was then placed in the Pendulum Zone.  Smith then Pendulum Summoned Metalfoes Volflame and Majespecter Toad – Ogama from the Extra Deck.  Majespecter Toad – Ogama’s effect let Smith Set Majespecter Storm from the Deck.  He passed there.

Salins drew to 2 cards in hand.  Smith used Majespecter Tornado immediately, Tributing Majespecter Toad – Ogama to banish Grampulse.  Salins set 2 cards and passed.

Smith drew Archfiend Eccentric in turn 3 of 5.  Metalfoes Steelen’s effect destroyed the Metalfoes Volflame in the Monster Zone to add Metalfoes Fusion.  Because a card he controlled was destroyed, Smith activated Metalfoes Counter to Special Summon another Metalfoes Volflame from the Deck.  He then Pendulum Summoned Metalfoes Volflame and Majespecter Toad – Ogama from the Extra Deck, then one of the Metalfoes Volflames attacked into Salins’s face-down The Phantom Knights of The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak.  Majespecter Toad – Ogama attempted to attack directly but Salins used an in-Graveyard Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade to Special Summon the just-destroyed The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak and then Salins immediately flipped up an on-field Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade targeting The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak to prevent Ancient Cloak from being attacked, effectively stopping more attacks this turn.  In Main Phase 2, Smith used Majespecter Storm, Tributing Majespecter Toad – Ogama to shuffle The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak back into the Deck.  The Set Metalfoes Fusion was activated, fusing both Volflames to Fusion Summon Metalfoes Orichalc in Defense Position.  Smith then used Metalfoes Goldriver to destroy the Orichalc and Orichalc’s effect destroyed Salins’ face-down Raigeki!

Salins drew a card, Set a monster and passed.

Smith Drew Maxx “C” for turn, Pendulum Summoned 3 Metalfoes Volflame, Majespecter Toad – Ogama, and Archfiend Eccentric!  Smith then used 2 Metalfoes Volflame to Xyz Summoned Number 11: Big Eye, and to take control of the face-down The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots. Finally, all of Smith’s monsters attacked for game!

Smith moves on with 8 wins!
