We’re kicking off Day 2 of YCS Atlanta with a Feature Match of two unique Decks. Marcus Fontice is here from Florida, and he’s brought along a Zoodiac Shaddoll Deck! Since so many opponents are using Zoodiacs or other Extra Deck monsters, now is a perfect time to be using Shaddoll Fusion. He’s up against Matthew Hagan, from Houston, who’s packing a 60-card Invoked Burning Abyss Phantom Knight Deck, with That Grass Looks Greener to turn the Deck into overdrive.

Duel 1

Hagan won the dice roll and chose to play first. He had a hand of Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Phantom Knights’ Wing, The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak, Invocation, and Twin Twisters. He Set Twin Twisters and passed.

Fontice played Zoodiac Barrage, and tried to use its effect on itself. Hagan flipped Twin Twisters, destroying it.. Fontice played Fire Formation – Tenki to add Zoodiac Ratpier to his hand, and played it to send Zoodiac Combo to the Graveyard. He used Ratpier to Xyz Summon Zoodiac Boarbow, then used that for Zoodiac Tigermortar. He detached Boarbow to Special Summon another Ratpier, then upgraded Tigermortar into Zoodiac Broadbull. He Special Summoned another Ratpier, then used Broadbull’s own effect to search out Zoodiac Whiptail. He used Broadbull to play Zoodiac Drident, then used his two Ratpier for Bujintei Kagutsuchi. Its effect sent Shaddoll Hedgehog, El Shaddoll Fusion, Shaddoll Squamata, Call of the Haunted, and Zoodiac Thoroughblade all to the Graveyard. He used his Hedgehog to add Shaddoll Beast to his hand, and Squamata sent Shadoll Core to the Graveyard. Core’s effect put El Shaddoll Fusion into his hand. He activated Shaddoll Fusion, for El Shaddoll Shekhinaga! Hagan conceded, since he knew the Quick-Play El Shaddoll Fusion was in Fontice’s hand to perform another Fusion Summon during the Battle Phase.

Duel 2

Hagan began with Allure of Darkness, That Grass Looks Greener, Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Fairy Tail – Snow. He played That Grass Looks Greener, sending 17 cards to the Graveyard! Notable cards were Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Farfa, 2 The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots, Invocation, and Phantom Knights’ Fog Blade. He used his Silent Boots, adding a Fog Blade to his hand. Allure of Darkness came next, and he drew Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, then banished Barbar. He Normal Summoned Libic, then banished Fog Blade to Special Summon Silent Boots. Libic was destroyed with its effect, and it Special Summoned Graff from the hand. Hagan Xyz Summoned Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, sending three cards to the Graveyard, including Phantom Knights’ Wing and Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. He had detached Graff for Dante, and Graff Special Summoned Scarm to the field. He discarded a monster to upgrade his Dante into Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal, destroying Scarm due to its Continuous Effect. He Set Fog Blade and his Scarm’s effect added Rubic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to his hand in the End Phase. After this massive turn, he had a Beatrice in Defense Position, Fog Blade face-down, and Rubic and Snow in his hand.

In Fontice’s Draw Phase, Beatrice sent Fairy Tail – Snow from his Deck to the Graveyard. Fontice Normal Summoned Whiptail, then activated Shaddoll Fusion! Hagan responded by Special Summoning Fairy Tail – Snow, banishing his Beatrice and six more cards to Special Summon Snow! Now that Hagan didn’t have an Extra Deck monster on the field, Shaddoll Fusion was forced to resolve without fusing from the Deck. Fontice combined his Whiptail with a Squamata from his hand, for El Shaddoll Shekhinaga. Squamata sent Shaddoll Beast to the Graveyard, and the Dante that was an Xyz Material returned Libic to Hagan’s hand. Snow targeted Shekhinaga, which negated and destroyed Snow by discarding Shadoll Core. All of that was in one Chain! Then, Shaddoll Beast and Shadoll Core resolved, letting him draw a card and return Shaddoll Fusion to his hand. Shekhinaga attacked directly, and Fontice Set one to his back row.

Hagan drew The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak, and Normal Summoned it to sent Phantom Knights’ Wing to the Graveyard. He banished that, and Special Summoned Silent Boots. He stacked his Phantom Knights for Leviair the Sea Dragon, and detached Ancient Cloak to target Silent Boots. Fontice responded with Forbidden Chalice, and Hagan responded to that with Fairy Tail – Snow, banishing Leviair! Leviair had dodged Chalice, and resolved normally. Snow hit the field as well, and was negated and destroyed by Shekhinaga. Hagan banished Ancient Cloak from the Graveyard to add another Silent Boots to his hand, and Special Summoned it. Now with two Silent Boots, he Xyz Summoned Dante, sending Aleister the Invoker, The Phantom Knights of Ragged Gloves, and Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to the Graveyard. He chose not to use Farfa’s effect, and instead Special Summoned Fairy Tail – Snow from his Graveyard again, banishing Aleister. He didn’t use Snow’s effect when it hit the field. He used Invocation’s effect in the Graveyard, adding it back to his Deck and putting Aleister in his hand. He banished Ragged Gloves from his Graveyard, sending another Ancient Cloak to the Graveyard.

Fontice Normal Summoned Zoodiac Ratpier, and used its effect to send Zoodiac Combo to the Graveyard. He turned Ratpier into Boarbow, and that into Tigermortar. He used that to Special Summon a Ratpier from his Deck. He turned Tigermortar into Broadbull, and Special Summoned another Ratpier. Broadbull then added Whiptail to Fontice’s hand, and he turned Broadbull into Drident. He used his 2 Ratpier to play Bujintei Kagutsuchi, which sent Imperial Iron Wall, El Shaddoll Fusion, Maxx “C”, Shaddoll Dragon, and Artifact Lancea to the Graveyard. Dragon destroyed Hagan’s Fog Blade, and Fontice activated Shaddoll Fusion! He sent Squamata and Beast to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon El Shaddoll Winda. Squamata sent Hedgehog to the Graveyard, and Beast let him draw a card. Then, Hedgehog’s effect put Shaddoll Falco in his hand as well. He went to the Battle Phase, and attached two Whiptail to his Drident! Drident attacked Fairy Tail – Snow, finally banishing it for good! He then detached an Xyz Material from Drident to destroy Dante, and Hagan added Graff back to his hand. Winda attacked directly, and Hagan used Fog Blade to Special Summon Silent Boots. It wouldn’t be enough, however, as Winda destroyed Silent Boots, and Kagetsuchi and Shekhinaga attacked directly to end the Match!
