Top 8 Feature Match: Aaron Furman vs. Robert Davidson
We are now in the Top 8! Only 3 more Rounds before we determine a new YCS Champion! Aaron Furman from Linwood, New Jersey got here with a True Draco Zoodiac Deck, while his opponent Robert Davidson from Florence, Kentucky is using a Zoodiac Kaiju Deck. Both players are looking to advance to the Top 4, so let’s get to the action! It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Furman won the roll and elected to go first. His starting hand was Lunalight Black Sheep, Speedroid Terrortop, Zoodiac Barrage, Fusion Substitute and Cosmic Cyclone. He Special Summoned Speedroid Terrortop and searched for Speedroid Taketomborg. He Special Summoned it and used both monsters to Xyz Summon M-X-Saber Invoker, and tried to use its effect to Special Summon from the Deck but was stopped by Davidson’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Furman pressed on by activating Zoodiac Barrage, destroying itself to Special Summon Zoodiac Ratpier from the Deck. Zoodiac Boarbow went on top of Zoodiac Ratpier, whose effect was used to Special Summon Zoodiac Ratpier from the Deck. Zoodiac Broadbull went on top of Zoodiac Boarbow, then its effect was used to add Zoodiac Ramram from the Deck to his hand. Zoodiac Chakanine went on top of Zoodiac Broadbull, and its effect Special Summoned Zoodiac Boarbow from the Graveyard. Furman then Normal Summoned Zoodiac Ramram and used Zoodiac Ratpier and Zoodiac Ramram to Xyz Summon Daigusto Emeral to send Zoodiac Broadbull, Zoodiac Ratpier and Speedroid Taketomborg back to the Deck to draw Speedroid Taketomborg. He then activated Fusion Substitute, combining Zoodiac Boarbow and Daigusto Emeral to Fusion Summon Elder Entity Norden whose effect Special Summoned Zoodiac Ramram from the Graveyard. The two monsters were used to make another Daigusto Emeral, which sent the first Daigusto Emeral, Zoodiac Boarbow and Zoodiac Ratpier back to the Deck to draw Maxx “C”. Fusion Substitute was banished, sending Elder Entity Norden back to the Extra Deck to draw Zoodiac Whiptail. Zoodiac Drident went on top of Zoodiac Chakanine, Furman Set Cosmic Cyclone, and he passed.
Davidson drew to 6 cards and he activated Fire Formation – Tenki. Furman chained Cosmic Cyclone to banish the Fire Formation – Tenki, preventing the search effect. He then Normal Summoned Zoodiac Whiptail but Furman blasted it with Zoodiac Drident’s effect. Davidson Set 2 to the back row and passed.
Furman drew Zoodiac Ramram for turn. He activated M-X-Saber Invoker‘s effect, but that was enough for Davidson. He conceded the game and we’re quickly going to Duel 2 with 42 minutes left in the round!
Duel 2
Davidson elected to go first. He started with Speedroid Terrortop and Davidson activated its effect to search for a Speedroid; but Furman activated Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy Speedroid Terrortop. Davidson searched for Speedroid Taketomborg anyway. He then Normal Summoned Zoodiac Ratpier, and sent Zoodiac Ramram from the Deck to the Graveyard. He then put Boarbow on top of it, then used Zoodiac Ratpier’s effect to Special Summon the other one. Then Zoodiac Broadbull went on top of Zoodiac Boarbow, and its effect added Lunalight Black Sheep to his hand. Black Sheep was discarded to add Fusion Substitute from his Deck to his hand. Zoodiac Chakanine went on top of Zoodiac Broadbull, and its effect Special Summoned Zoodiac Boarbow from the Graveyard. Fusion Substitute sent the two Xyz Monsters to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Elder Entity Norden, whose effect Special Summoned Zoodiac Ramram. The two monsters were combined for Daigusto Emeral, which sent Lunalight Black Sheep, Zoodiac Ratpier and Zoodiac Broadbull back to the Deck to draw a card. He then activated Lullaby of Obedience, declaring Zoodiac Whiptail! Furman elected to have it go to Davidson’s hand. Davidson then put Zoodiac Tigermortar on top of Zoodiac Ramram, and then Zoodiac Drident on top of that. He Set one card and passed.
Furman activated Fire Formation – Tenki, adding Zoodiac Whiptail from his Deck to his hand. He then activated Zoodiac Barrage, but it was blasted away by Zoodiac Drident’s effect. Furman Set True King’s Return and he Tributed both it and Fire Formation – Tenki for Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King! He used Return’s effect to destroy Daigusto Emeral, Master Peace attacked into Zoodiac Drident, and in the End Phase, Master Peace’s effect was used to destroy the face-down Solemn Strike.
Davidson Tributed Furman’s Master Peace for Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju! He then Special Summoned Speedroid Terrortop and Speedroid Taketomborg, combing them for M-X-Saber Invoker whose effect Special Summoned Zoodiac Thoroughblade from the Deck. Its effect was activated, discarding the Zoodiac Whiptail owned by Furman to draw a card. Zoodiac Chakanine and then Zoodiac Broadbull were put on top of the Zoodiac Thoroughblade, and Zoodiac Broadbull’s effect found Zoodiac Whiptail from the Deck. He then put Zoodiac Drident on top of the Zoodiac Broadbull and used Zoodiac Drident’s effect to destroy Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju. Next, Davidson Normal Summoned Zoodiac Whiptail and attacked with it and M-X-Saber Invoker, attached the Whiptail to Zoodiac Drident, and attacked with Drident. He Set 2 cards and passed.
Furman drew Fire Formation – Tenki whose effect was used to add Zoodiac Ramram from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Zoodiac Ramram and then Xyz Summoned Zoodiac Drident on top of it. Furman went to the End Phase where Davidson used his Zoodiac Drident to destroy Furman’s, with Furman Chaining his Drident’s effect to destroy Davidson’s Zoodiac Drident.
Davidson drew for turn. He used M-X-Saber Invoker’s effect to Special Summon Zoodiac Whiptail, which then turned into a Zoodiac Broadbull and a Zoodiac Drident. Drident and M-X-Saber Invoker attacked to send this Match into a third and final Duel!
Duel 3
Furman elected to go first. He started with a hand of Fusion Substitute, Dragonic Diagram, Zoodiac Ramam, Speedroid Terrortop and Speedroid Taketomborg. He Special Summoned both Speedroids and stacked them together to Xyz Summon M-X-Saber Invoker. He attempted to use the effect, but it was negated by Davidson’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Furman then Normal Summoned Zoodiac Ramram, then put Zoodiac Boarbow on top of it, then Zoodiac Broadbull on Boarbow. Zoodiac Broadbull’s effect was activated, detaching Zoodiac Ramram, and Davidson Chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit! Furman resolved the effect, adding another Zoodiac Ramram from his Deck to his hand. Furman followed up with Dragonic Diagram, using its effect to destroy Zoodiac Ramram and add True King’s Return from his Deck to his hand. Zoodiac Ramram’s effect activated in the Graveyard to special summon Zoodiac Boarbow. After it resolved, Davidson activated Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries! He revealed Zoodiac Drident and got a free look at Furman’s Extra Deck, with all of Furman’s Dridents banished! Furman continued by putting Zoodiac Chakanine over Zoodiac Broadbull, and using the effect to Special Summon Zoodiac Boarbow. Fusion Substitute was activated next, using Zoodiac Boarbow and the M-X-Saber Invoker to Fusion Summon Elder Entity Norden, whose effect Special Summoned Zoodiac Ramram. The two monsters were used to Xyz Summon Daigusto Emeral, whose effect sent Zoodiac Boarbow, Zoodiac Broadbull and M-X-Saber Invoker to the Deck to draw a Maxx “C”. Fusion Substitute’s effect was used to send Elder Entity Norden back to the Extra Deck and draw Zoodiac Barrage. Zoodiac Tigermortar came down over the Zoodiac Ramram, and he Set True King’s Return before passing his turn.
Davidson started his turn with Fire Formation – Tenki, adding Zoodiac Ratpier from his Deck to his hand. Zoodiac Ratpier was Normal Summoned, and Furman activated Maxx “C”. Davidson continued anyway, Summoning Zoodiac Broadbull over the Zoodiac Ratpier, and using Zoodiac Broadbull’s effect to add Zoodiac Whiptail to his hand. He attached Zoodiac Whiptail to Zoodiac Broadbull and attacked into the Defense Position Zoodiac Tigermortar, taking some damage and banishing the Zoodiac Tigermortar with Zoodiac Whiptail’s effect. In Main Phase 2, Davidson put Zoodiac Drident over the Zoodiac Broadbull, used the effect to destroy Furman’s Daigusto Emeral, Set a back row, and passed.
Furman drew Solemn Strike for his turn. He activated Dragonic Diagram, forcing the effect of Zoodiac Drident to destroy it. Furman then activated Fire Formation – Tenki, adding Zoodiac Ratpier from his Deck to his hand. He then Normal Summoned Zoodiac Ratpier and put Zoodiac Boarbow on top of it; but it was met with a Solemn Strike! Furman then activated Zoodiac Barrage, then flipped True King’s Return! He used Zoodiac Barrage to destroy Return and Special Summon Zoodiac Thoroughblade from the Deck. Return’s effect destroyed Davidson’s Zoodiac Drident. After it resolved, Davidson activated his second Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries of the Duel, revealing Zoodiac Broadbull from his Extra Deck! Furman banished the 2 left in his Extra Deck and continued on, putting a Zoodiac Chakanine on top of the Zoodiac Thoroughblade. Zoodiac Chakanine’s effect was used to Special Summon Zoodiac Ramram from the Graveyard, then both monsters attacked, leaving Davidson at 3600 LP.
Davidson drew to one card in hand having only a Fire Formation – Tenki on the field. He revealed the draw to be Gadarla, the Mystery Dust Kaiju which was no help here. He extended the handshake!
Despite getting Ghost Reapered twice in one Duel, Aaron Furman moves on to the Semi-Finals!
