Jonhathan Sebastian Vazquez Herrera is a Mexico City local and former YCS Champion. Vazquez won YCS Mexico City in 2010, and now, he’s competing for the honor of representing his country in this year’s World Championship!  Eduardo Adrian Yanez Lujan is also a local Duelist from Mexico City, and he’ll be aiming to take Vazquez down in this Round 1 Feature Match! It’s time to Duel!

Vazquez opened up with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Soul Charge, Dark Hole, Fire Formation – Tenki, and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit.

He started the Duel off by activating Tenki and adding Zoodiac Ratpier to his hand. He Summoned it, kicking Zoodiac Ramram to the Graveyard. Next, he Xyz Summoned Zoodiac Hammerkong over Ratpier and used its effect to Special Summon another Ratpier from his Deck. He Summoned Zoodiac Broadbull over Hammerkong, and then used Broadbull’s effect to detach Hammerkong and add Zoodiac Whiptail to his hand. Next, he Xyz Summoned Zoodiac Chakanine over Broadbull, and detached Broadbull to Special Summon Ramram from his Graveyard with Chakanine’s effect. He Xyz Summoned Zoodiac Tigermortar over Chakanine next, then Zoodiac Boarbow over Tigermortar, and Zoodiac Drident over Boarbow. He used Drident’s effect to destroy his own Ramram, triggering Ramram’s effect and Special Summoning a Ratpier from his Graveyard. Then he combined two copies of Ratpier to Xyz Summon Daigusto Emeral. Next, he activated its effect by detaching a Ratpier, sending 3 Xyz Monsters from his Graveyard back to his Extra Deck and drawing Cosmic Cyclone from his Deck. Finally, he activated Soul Charge, giving up 2000 Life Points to Special Summon Ramram and Ratpier from his Graveyard. He combined his two monsters to Xyz Summon Tornado Dragon and then Set Cosmic Cyclone and Dark Hole before ending his turn.

Yanez activated Cosmic Cyclone and gave up 1000 Life Points to banish Vazquez’s face-down Dark Hole. Next, he Normal Summoned Ramram, and when Vazquez tried to destroy it with Drident’s effect, Yanez used My Body as a Shield to protect it and destroy Drident! Next, Yanez placed Hammerkong over Ramram, and then Xyz Summoned Broadbull over Hammerkong. He used Broadbull’s effect, and Vazquez discarded Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit from his hand to destroy the Broadbull. Yanez resolved Broadbull’s effect to add Zoodiac Ratpier to his hand. Yanez Set 2 cards to his back row and then ended his turn. In the End Phase, Vazquez used Tornado Dragon’s effect to destroy Yanez’s face-down Zoodiac Barrage, and then flipped Cosmic Cyclone to banish Yanez’s face-down Solemn Strike, leaving him defenseless.

Vazquez drew a Whiptail and then activated the effect of Daigusto Emeral, sending Ratpier, Tigermortar and Drident back to his Deck to draw Fire Formation – Tenki. He activated Tenki to add Zoodiac Thoroughblade to his hand and then Normal Summoned it, discarding a Whiptail to draw a Ramram. He Xyz Summoned Boarbow over Thoroughblade next, and then Xyz Summoned Broadbull over Boarbow. He used Broadbull’s effect to add Whiptail to his hand, and then Xyz Summoned Chakanine over Broadbull. He Special Summoned Whiptail from his Graveyard with Chakanine’s effect, and Yanez conceded, knowing that his Life Points would be reduced to 0 this turn.

Jonathan Sebastian Vazquez Herrera takes a quick victory in Duel 1 with his Zoodiacs after Summoning Daigusto Emeral and activating Soul Charge on Turn 1!

Yanez started off Duel 2 by Summoning Thoroughblade and activating its effect to discard Ramram and draw a card.

He promoted Thoroughblade into Hammerkong, and then Xyz Summoned Broadbull over Hammerkong. He used Broadbull’s effect to add Ratpier to his hand, and then Xyz Summoned Zoodiac Chakanine over Broadbull. He used Chakanine’s effect to target Hammerkong in his Graveyard, and Vazquez Chained the effect of Maxx “C” in his hand to draw a card when Hammerkong was Summoned; but Yanez discarded Droll & Lock Bird to stop Vazquez from drawing any more cards from the effect of Maxx “C”! Next, Yanez upgraded Chakanine into Boarbow, and then Xyz Summoned Tigermortar over Boarbow. He detached Chakanine with Tigermortar’s effect to attached the Ramram in his Graveyard to Hammerkong as an Xyz Material. Finally, he Xyz Summoned Drident in Attack Position over Tigermortar and Set 1 card to his back row.

Vazquez drew a card and then held Forbidden Chalice, Cosmic Cyclone, Fire Formation – Tenki, Mind Control, Zoodiac Whiptail, and Dark Hole! He activated Cosmic Cyclone first, paying 1000 Life Points to banish Yanez’s face-down My Body as a Shield! Next, he activated Fire Formation – Tenki, using its effect to add Zoodiac Ratpier to his hand. He Summoned Ratpier and activated its effect; but Yanez Chained the effect of Drident to destroy Ratpier. Vazquez sent Zoodiac Ramram to his Graveyard with the effect of Ratpier. Next, Vazquez activated Mind Control! He took control of Hammerkong and then upgraded it into Tigermortar. Next, he used Tigermortar’s effect to detach Hammerkong and attached Tigermortar with the Ratpier in his Graveyard. He detached Ratpier to Special Summon another Ratpier from his Deck in Defense Position and then upgraded Tigermortar into Broadbull and used its effect to add Zoodiac Whiptail from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Xyz Summoned Chakanine over Broadbull, and used its effect to Special Summon Ramram from his Graveyard. He Xyz Summoned Boarbow over Chakanine, and then Hammerkong over Boarbow. Finally, he Xyz Summoned Drident in Attack Position over Hammerkong, and used Drident’s effect to destroy his own Ramram. He used Ramram’s effect to Special Summon Ratpier from his Graveyard, and combined his two copies of Ratpier to Xyz Summon Daigusto Emeral! He detached a Rat from his Emeral to use its effect, sending Maxx “C” and Ratpier back to his Deck, and Broadbull back to his Extra Deck, and drawing Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju. Emeral attacked Drident, and when Yanez used Whiptail to try to increase Drident’s Attack Points, Vazquez activated Forbidden Chalice on Drident, dropping its ATK to 400! Emeral destroyed the Drident in battle, and Vazquez’s own Drident attacked directly for 500 points of damage. Vazquez Set Dark Hole before ending his turn.

Yanez Normal Summoned Zoodiac Ramram and then Xyz Summoned Zoodiac Drident over it. He used Drident’s effect to destroy Emeral, and then Vazquez used his Drident to destroy Yanez’s Drident; but Yanez discarded Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit from his hand to take down Vazquez’s Drident with it.

Vazquez drew Zoodiac Barrage and then Normal Summoned Zoodiac Whiptail. He Xyz Summoned Broadbull over Whiptail, and then Tigermortar over Broadbull. He used Tigermortar’s effect to swap an Xyz Material with the Ratpier in his Graveyard, and then Special Summoned another Ratpier from his Deck with Tigermortar’s effect. Next, he upgraded Tigermortar into Chakanine, and used its effect to Special Summon Ramram from his Graveyard. He activated Zoodiac Barrage next, and destroyed Ramram to Special Summon Thoroughblade from his Deck. He used Thoroughblade’s effect to discard Whiptail and draw a card, and used Ramram’s effect to Special Summon Whiptail from his Graveyard. Next, he combined Thoroughblade with Ratpier to Xyz Summon Daigusto Emeral, and used its effect to draw another card from his Deck. He activated Fire Formation – Tenki next, and added another Whiptail to his hand. He Xyz Summoned Drident over Chakanine, and then attacked directly with Whiptail. Next, he attacked directly with Drident and Emeral, dropping Yanez down to 1500 Life Points. Vazquez Set Enemy Controller before passing his turn.

Yanez drew a card and conceded, revealing Zoodiac Combo and Zoodiac Ratpier from his hand.
