Gerald Yagans South Chaves won YCS Guatemala earlier this year and won back-to-back National Championships in Costa Rica in 2016 and 2017. Now, he’s facing off against Josue Leonardo Hernandez Oliva from Zelaya, Mexico in our Round 4 Feature Match starring two undefeated Duelists. Both of these players will be Dueling their hardest for a chance to represent their home country in the 2017 Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

South opened up Duel 1 with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite, Torrential Tribute, and 2 copies of Zoodiac Ramram.

He Summoned Ramram and Xyz Summoned Zoodiac Broadbull over it. He used Broadbull’s effect to detach Ramram and add Zoodiac Whiptail to his hand, and then Xyz Summoned Chakanine over Broadbull. Next, he used Chakanine’s effect to Special Summon Ramram from his Graveyard. He Xyz Summoned Zoodiac Drident in Defense Position over Chakanine and Set Torrential Tribute before passing his turn.

Hernandez Set True Draco Apocalypse and Tributed it to Summon Dreiath III, the True Dracocavalry General. Apocalypse’s effect tried to destroy Drident, and Drident’s effect was Chained to destroy Dreiath. Hernandez Special Summoned Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King from his Deck in Defense Position with Dreiath’s effect. He then activated Dragonic Diagram and tried to use its effect, but lost out to Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit.

South drew Terraforming! He activated it to add Dragonic Diagram to his hand and then used Diagram’s effect to destroy Zephyros from his hand and add his own Master Peace to his hand. Next, he Xyz Summoned Broadbull over Ramram, and used its effect to detach Ramram and add Zoodiac Ratpier from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and activated its effect to send Zoodiac Barrage from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he Special Summoned Zephyros from his Graveyard by returning Diagram to his hand and giving up 400 Life Points. He Xyz Summoned Daigusto Emeral by combining Ratpier with Zephyros, and then detached Ratpier to activate Emeral’s effect and send Drident, Chakanine, and Broadbull to his Extra Deck and draw a card. He activated Diagram next, and used its effect to destroy Baobaboon from his hand and add True Draco Heritage to his hand. He used the effect of his destroyed Baobaboon to Special Summon two more copies from his Deck, and used their effects to draw a card and put a card on the bottom of his Deck twice. Next, he Xyz Summoned Tigermortar over Broadbull, and used Tigermortar’s effect to swap an Xyz Material with a Ratpier in his Graveyard. He Special Summoned a Ratpier from his Deck, and then combined his two Baobaboons for M-X-Saber Invoker. He used Invoker’s effect to Special Summon Zoodiac Thoroughblade from his Deck, and then used Thoroughblade’s effect to discard a Whiptail and draw a card. He combined Thoroughblade with Ratpier to Xyz Summon another Daigusto Emeral, and then used the Emeral’s effect to return Broadbull to his Extra Deck and return Ramram and Whiptail from his Graveyard to his Deck and draw one card. He activated Heritage next, and Tributed it along with Tigermortar to Summon Master Peace. He activated Zoodiac Barrage, and then destroyed the Barrage to Special Summon Whiptail from his Deck. He Xyz Summoned Boarbow over Whiptail, and then Drident over Boarbow. Master Peace’s effect destroyed Hernandez’s Master Peace, and then direct attacks from Drident, Master Peace, Invoker, and both Emerals wiped out all 8000 of Hernandez’s Life Points!

Duel Two

Hernandez started off Duel 2 by activating Dragonic Diagram and Setting True Draco Apocalypse.

He destroyed the Apocalypse with Diagram and added True King’s Return to his hand. He activated Heritage next, drawing one card from his Deck with its effect. Then, he Tributed Heritage to Summon Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter. He Set 2 cards to his back row before passing.

South opened up Duel 2 with Twin Twisters, Cosmic Cyclone, Zoodiac Whiptail, Terraforming, Master Peace, and Unending Nightmare. He activated Twin Twisters first, discarding Unending Nightmare to destroy Hernandez’s two face-down cards. Hernandez Chained the effect of his Dinomight Knight to activate True King’s Return from his Deck, and then lost his other two face-down copies of True King’s Return to Twin Twisters. South Summoned Whiptail next, and then Xyz Summoned Zoodiac Hammerkong over it. Hernandez tried to use the effect of True King’s Return, but Hernandez Chained Cosmic Cyclone to banish the last True King’s Return! South transformed Hammerkong into Zoodiac Broadbull next, and used Broadbull’s effect to add Zoodiac Ramram to his hand. He activated Diagram next, and used Diagram’s effect to destroy Ramram and add Heritage to his hand. He then used his destroyed Ramram’s effect to Special Summon Hammerkong back to the field in Defense Position. He upgraded Broadbull into Zoodiac Chakanine next, and used Chakanine’s effect to Special Summon Ramram from the Graveyard. Next, he Tributed Heritage and Hammerkong to Summon Master Peace, and used his Tributed Heritage’s effect to destroy Dragonic Diagram. Then, he upgraded Chakanine into Boarbow, and then Xyz Summoned Drident over Boarbow. He used Drident’s effect to destroy Dinomight Knight, and then attacked directly with Drident and Master Peace, dropping Hernandez down to 3850 Life Points.

Hernandez drew a card and conceded, completely outmatched by South’s field.
