Gerardo Sotomayor Meza from Mexico is Dueling against Angel Fernando Ovalle Rivera from Panama in our Top 16 Feature Match! Ovalle is using a pure Zoodiac Deck, while Sotomayor is piloting a True Draco Zoodiac Deck. Only one of these Duelists will advance to the Top 8 and keep the dream of competing in the 2017 World Championship alive. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Ovalle started off Duel 1 by activating Fire Formation – Tenki and using its effect to add Zoodiac Ratpier to his hand.

Next, he Normal Summoned Ratpier and declined to activate its effect. He Xyz Summoned Zoodiac Hammerkong over it, and then detached an Xyz Material from Hammerkong to Special Summon another Ratpier from his Deck. He Xyz Summoned Zoodiac Broadbull over Hammerkong and then used Broadbull’s effect to add a Zoodiac Ramram from his Deck to his hand. He Xyz Summoned Chakanine next, and used Chakanine’s effect to Special Summon Hammerkong from his Graveyard. Then, he Xyz Summoned Tigermortar and used its effect to give Hammerkong an Xyz Material. He Xyz Summoned Drident over Tigermortar next, and then ended his turn.

Sotomayor opened with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Zoodiac Whiptail, Baobaboon, Zoodiac Ramram, True King’s Return, and Terraforming. He Summoned Whiptail and Ovalle immediately destroyed it by activating Drident’s effect. Sotomayor activated Terraforming next, but Ovalle stopped it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Sotomayor Set True King’s Return and then ended his turn, and Hammerkong lost an Xyz Material in the End Phase.

Ovalle Xyz Summoned Broadbull and used its effect, and then Normal Summoned Thoroughblade and activated its effect to discard Ramram and draw a card. He Xyz Summoned Chakanine next, and used Chakanine’s effect to Special Summon Ramram from his Graveyard. He combined Ratpier with Thoroughblade to Xyz Summon Daigusto Emeral next, and activated its effect; but Sotomayor discarded Ash Blossom to negate it. Ovalle attacked directly with Ramram and Emeral. Ovalle Summoned Tigermortar next, and used its effect to give Drident an Xyz Material. He then Xyz Summoned another Drident over Tigermortar, and Set 2 cards to his back row.

Sotomayor drew Ash Blossom and conceded, unwilling to try fighting through Ovalle’s two Dridents.

Duel Two

Sotomayor opened up Duel 2 with Forbidden Apocrypha, Zoodiac Ramram, Zoodiac Barrage, Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King, and Zoodiac Whiptail.

He Summoned Ramram and then Xyz Summoned Broadbull over it. He detached Ramram to activate Broadbull’s effect and added Zoodiac Whiptail from his Deck to his hand. He Xyz Summoned Chakanine next, and used its effect to Special Summon Ramram back to the field. Next, he Xyz Summoned Hammerkong over Broadbull, and Drident over Hammerkong. He Set Forbidden Apocrypha and then ended his turn.

Ovalle Set a card to his back row and passed.

Sotomayor drew Dragonic Diagram. He activated it and tried to use its effect, but Ovalle destroyed the Diagram with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. Next, Sotomayor Summoned Zoodiac Whiptail. He attacked with Whiptail, dropping Ovalle down to 6800 Life Points.

Ovalle activated Dark Hole to clear the field! Ramram’s effect activated, and Sotomayor Special Summoned Drident from his Graveyard in Defense Position. Next, Ovalle activated Fire Formation – Tenki and added Zoodiac Ratpier from his Deck to his hand. Sotomayor attached Drident with a Whiptail from his hand. Ovalle Normal Summoned Ratpier next, and used its effect to send Ramram from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Xyz Summoned Boarbow over Ratpier, and Sotomayor activated Drident’s effect to destroy Boarbow. Sotomayor Chained My Body as a Shield, and Sotomayor Chained Forbidden Apocrypha to clear the field.

Sotomayor activated Zoodiac Barrage and used its effect, but Ovalle stopped it by discarding Ash Blossom from his hand. Sotomayor Set a card to his back row before passing.

Ovalle activated Soul Charge! He Special Summoned Whiptail, Ramram, and Boarbow from his Graveyard by giving up 3000 Life Points! He Summoned Broadbull over Boarbow, and used Broadbull’s effect to add Whiptail from his Deck to his hand. Next, he combined Ramram with Whiptail to Xyz Summon Tornado Dragon, and used its effect to destroy Sotomayor’s face-down Zoodiac Barrage. He Xyz Summoned Chakanine next, and used its effect to Special Summon Ramram from his Graveyard. He Xyz Summoned Drident over Chakanine, Set a card to his back row, and then Normal Summoned Thoroughblade.

Sotomayor Tributed his Zoodiac Barrage for Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter and attacked Tornado Dragon to destroy it.

Ovalle Tributed Sotomayor’s Dinomight Knight for Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju and then Summoned a bunch of Zoodiac monsters and activated their effects. He subsequently Xyz Summoned Daigusto Emeral and used its effect to draw a card after returning 3 cards from his Graveyard back to his Deck. He Summoned Chakanine and used its effect to Special Summon Ramram, and then ultimately Xyz Summoned a second Drident. He used one Drident’s effect to destroy Gameciel, and then attacked directly with his monsters to drop Sotomayor down to 1900 Life Points.

Sotomayor drew a card and conceded, outmatched by Ovalle’s field.
