Calvin Tahan from Virginia and Manav Dawar from Seattle are both currently 8-2 in the Ultimate Duelist Series Invitational here in Kissimmee, Florida, and now they’re Dueling against one another in this Round 11 Feature Match! Tahan is using an ABC Deck that includes a small True Draco engine to give it a boost, while Dawar is using a more dedicated True Draco Deck. Will the ABC monsters give Tahan the edge in this Match? We’re about to find out. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Dawar Set 2 cards to his back row.

He activated Dragonic Diagram and tried to use its effect, but lost out to Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. He Set a third card to his back row and passed.

Tahan drew and had Silver Gadget, True King’s Return, Union Hangar, and 2 copies of Twin Twisters in his hand. He activated Twin Twisters by discarding True King’s Return, destroying Cosmic Cyclone and Unending Nightmare. Next, he activated Union Hangar and used its effect to add A-Assault Core to his hand. He Summoned Silver Gadget next, and used its effect. Dawar Chained Maxx “C”, and Tahan Special Summoned A-Assault Core. Dawar drew a card, and Tahan equipped A-Assault Core with B-Buster Drake from his Deck thanks to Union Hangar. He attacked directly with A-Assault Core and Silver Gadget, and then Xyz Summon Bujintei Tsukuyomi. B-Buster Drake fell to the Graveyard and he searched for C-Crush Wyvern from his Deck with its effect. He Set a card to his back row and then used Tsukyuomi’s effect to discard C-Crush Wyvern and draw Union Hangar and Set Rotation. He Set Set Rotation and passed.

Dawar Summoned Aleister the Invoker and used its effect to add Invocation to his hand. He activated Invocation, banishing Aleister from his field and A-Assault Core from Tahan’s Graveyard to Special Summon Invoked Mechaba! He shuffled Invocation back into his Deck to add Aleister to his hand next, and then attacked Tsukuyomi with Mechaba to destroy it. He activated Upstart Goblin in Main Phase 2 to draw a card and give Tahan 1000 Life Points. Dawar Set a card to his back row and passed.

Tahan drew Gateway to Chaos. He flipped Twin Twisters, discarding it to destroy Dawar’s two back row cards – Skill Drain and True Draco Apocalypse – in his Standby Phase. He activated a Union Hangar next, using its effect to search his Deck for A-Assault Core and add it to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and equipped it with B-Buster Drake thanks to Union Hangar, and then banished an A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern to Summon ABC-Dragon Buster. B-Buster Drake fell to the Graveyard, and Tahan added C-Crush Wyvern to his hand with its effect. Tahan passed his turn without attacking, knowing that he’d lose a battle against a Mechaba boosted by Aleister’s effect.

Dawar attacked ABC-Dragon Buster with Mechaba, and Tahan used his Dragon Buster’s effect to banish Mechaba by discarding C-Crush Wyvern. Dawar Summoned Aleister in Main Phase 2 and used its effect to add another Invocation to his hand. He activated Invocation, and Tahan Chained the effect of his Dragon Buster to Special Summon A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern from his Banished Zone in Defense Position. Dawar banished Aleister from his field and B-Buster Drake from Tahan’s Graveyard to Special Summon another Mechaba, and then shuffled Invocation into his Deck to add Aleister to his hand. Dawar Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.

Tahan drew True Draco Apocalypse and then combined B and C to Summon Diamond Dire Wolf. Dawar flipped Floodgate Trap Hole to flip it face-down and trap it in the Extra Monster Zone. Next, Dawar flipped Set Rotation, Setting Dragonic Diagram in his own Field Spell Zone and Union Hangar in his opponent’s. He flipped his Diagram face-up and used its effect to destroy his Diamond Dire Wolf and add Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King to his hand. He Set Apocalypse and then Tributed Apocalypse and A-Assault Core to Summon Master Peace! He made the effect of A-Assault Core Chain Link 1, and the effect of Apocalypse Chain Link 2. The Chain resolved, causing Mechaba to be destroyed, and allowing Tahan to add C-Crush Wyvern from his Deck to his Graveyard to his hand with A-Assault Core’s effect. He banished A, B, and C from his Graveyard to Summon ABC-Dragon Buster, and then direct attacks from ABC-Dragon Buster and Master Peace finished Dawar off!

Duel Two

Tahan opened up Duel 2 with Twin Twisters, Master Peace, C-Crush Wyvern, and 2 copies of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.

He Set C-Crush Wyvern and Twin Twisters and then passed his turn.

Dawar Set a monster and a card to his back row.

Tahan drew Terraforming! He activated Twin Twisters in his Standby Phase, discarding Master Peace to destroy Dawar’s face-down Cosmic Cyclone. Next, he activated Terraforming to add Union Hangar to his hand. He activated it to search for A-Assault Core and Normal Summoned it. He equipped it with B-Buster Drake using the effect of Union Hangar and then Flip Summoned C-Crush Wyvern. Dawar activated Maxx “C” from his hand and then Tahan Chained Ash Blossom from his hand to negate it. Tahan combined A-Assault Core and C-Crush Wyvern to Summon Gear Gigant X, causing B-Buster Drake to fall to the Graveyard and let Tahan search for A-Assault Core. Next, Tahan used the effect of Gear Gigant X to detach A-Assault Core and add Gold Gadget to his hand. He attacked Dawar’s face-down Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring with Gear Gigant X to destroy it and then passed his turn.

Dawar activated Dragonic Diagram and tried to use its effect; but Tahan discarded Ash Blossom from his hand to negate it! Dawar activated Card of Demise next, desperately drawing 1 card from his Deck. He shook his head, Set a card to his back row, and then discarded Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior and Master Peace in his End Phase.

Tahan drew Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju and then detached an Xyz Material from Gear Gigant X to add Silver Gadget to his hand. He Summoned Silver Gadget and used its effect to Special Summon Gold Gadget from his hand. He used Gold Gadget’s effect to Special Summon A-Assault Core, and then used Union Hangar to equip it with B-Buster Drake. Next, he combined Gear Gigant X with Silver Gadget and A-Assault Core to Link Summon Decode Talker. B-Buster Drake fell to the Graveyard, and Tahan used its effect to add C-Crush Wyvern from his Deck to his hand. Next, he banished A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern from his Graveyard to Special Summon ABC-Buster Dragon Linked to Decode Talker. He discarded a card to banish Dawar’s face-down Invocation, and then banished another A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern to Summon another Dragon Buster Linked to Decode Talker! Direct attacks from Decode Talker, Gold Gadget, and both copies of ABC-Dragon Buster finished Dawar off and ended the Match!
