Round 7 Feature Match: Roland Fang vs. Charles Henderson

September 24th, 2017

New York’s Roland Fang represented the United States in the 2017 Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship in Tokyo, Japan, earning a Top 8 finish. Now he’s here in Florida, searching for the title of Ultimate Duelist and the accompanying belt! His Round 7 opponent is Detroit, Michigan’s Charles Henderson. Henderson is using a True Draco Spellbook Deck that has proven to be popular this weekend, while Fang is using a less traditional Invoked Windwitch Deck. Both Duelists are currently 4-2 in the tournament, so they’ll both need a victory in this Swiss Round in order to maintain a strong shot at a Top Cut finish. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Fang opened up with Terraforming, Invocation, Dimensional Barrier, Spellbook of Knowledge, and Cosmic Cyclone.

Roland Fang

He used Terraforming to add Magical Meltdown to his hand and then activated it to add Aleister the Invoker to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and used its effect to add Invocation to his hand. Next, he activated Spellbook of Knowledge and sent Aleister from his field to his Graveyard to draw Maxx “C” and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. He activated Invocation by banishing Aleister from his Graveyard and sending Ghost Ogre from his hand to the Graveyard, fusing them together to Summon Invoked Mechaba. He shuffled Invocation from his Graveyard back into his Deck to return his banished Aleister to his hand. Finally, he Set Dimensional Barrier and Cosmic Cyclone before ending his turn.

Henderson Set 3 cards to his back row and then Tributed a face-down True Draco Apocalypse and Disciples of the True Dracophoenix to Summon Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King. He destroyed Mechaba with the effect of Apocalypse, and tried to destroy Cosmic Cyclone with the effect of Disciples, which Fang Chained to banish a Spellbook of Knowledge. Henderson attacked directly with Master Peace and Set 2 cards to his back row before passing.

Fang drew Raigeki and then Summoned Aleister to the field. He activated its effect to add Invocation to his hand, and then activated Invocation. Henderson Chained Cosmic Cyclone to banish Invocation from the Duel, and then it resolved, allowing Fang to banish Aleister from his field and Ghost Ogre from his Graveyard to Fusion Summon Invoked Mechaba in Defense Position.

Henderson attacked Mechaba with Master Peace to destroy it and then activated Card of Demise to draw 3 cards in Main Phase 2. He activated True Draco Heritage next, and Tributed it to Summon Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster. He discarded Master Peace from his hand in the End Phase due to the effect of Card of Demise.

Fang drew Cosmic Cyclone and then activated Raigeki. Henderson Chained Majesty Maiden’s effect to add Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior to his hand, and then Majesty Maiden was destroyed. Master Peace survived because it was immune to Spell Cards. Fang Set a card to each zone and then passed. Henderson used Cosmic Cyclone to banish Fang’s newly Set Cosmic Cyclone in the End Phase, and used Master Peace’s effect to destroy Fang’s face-down Maxx “C”.

Henderson Normal Summoned Spellbook Magician of Prophecy and used its effect to add Spellbook of Secrets to his hand. He used Secrets to add Spellbook of Knowledge to his hand and drew 2 cards by sending his Magician to the Graveyard with Spellbook of Knowledge. Next, he activated Disciples and used its effect to Tribute it for Ignis Heat. Direct attacks from Ignis Heat and Master Peace finished Fang off!

Henderson dominates the first Duel with his True Dracos!

Duel Two

Fang started off Duel 2 by using Windwitch – Ice Bell’s effect to Special Summon it and inflict 500 points of damage to Henderson, and Henderson Chained Maxx “C”! Henderson drew a card, and then Fang used Ice Bell’s effect to Special Summon Windwitch – Glass Bell from his Deck, allowing Henderson to draw another card. Glass Bell’s effect activated to add another Ice Bell from Fang’s Deck to his hand. Next, Fang Tuned his 2 monsters together to Synchro Summon Windwitch – Winter Bell, allowing Henderson to draw another card. He used Winter Bell’s effect to deal 800 points of damage to Henderson, and then Normal Summoned Windwitch – Snow Bell. He Tuned Snow Bell with Winter Bell to Synchro Summon Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon and then Set Solemn Warning before passing.

Henderson activated Cosmic Cyclone and gave up 1000 Life Points to banish Solemn Warning.

Charles Henderson

Next, he activated The Monarchs Stormforth and Tributed the Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon to Summon Majesty Maiden! He activated Pot of Desires next, banishing the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down to draw 2 cards. Henderson attacked directly with Majesty Maiden and then Set 5 cards to his back row.

Fang activated Spellbook of Secrets to add Spellbook Magician of Prophecy to his hand and Summoned it. He activated its effect, and Henderson Chained the effect of Majesty Maiden, followed by Forbidden Chalice to negate the Magician’s effect. Fang thereafter conceded, completely devastated by Henderson’s The Monarchs Stormfoth and Maxx “C”.
