Calvin Tahan from Arlington, Virginia and Jacob Silverman from Miami, Florida both survived the 12 Swiss Rounds and made it to the Top 8 of the Ultimate Duelist Series Invitational – Summer 2017 here in Kissimmee, Florida! Now they’re Dueling against one another in a Match that will determine which Duelist advances to the Top 4. Silverman is using a True Draco Deck with no Extra Deck (in order to take advantage of Side Decked copies of The Monarchs Erupt). Tahan is using an ABC Deck built around ABC-Dragon Buster, which also includes several True Draco cards. Although Pendulum Magician Decks make up the majority of the Top 8, the Duelists in this Match chose to forgo a Pendulum strategy when selecting their Decks, and both Duelists were thus far rewarded for it with a Top 8 finish. Who will advance to the Top 4? We’re about to find out. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Silverman started off Duel 2 by activating Spellbook of Secrets to add Spellbook Magician of Prophecy to his hand and then activated Terraforming to add Dragonic Diagram to his hand. He activated Spellbook of Knowledge, discarding  Spellbook Magician of Prophecy to draw 2 cards. Next, he activated Disciples of the True Dracophoenix and used its effect to gain a Tribute Summon and Tribute it for Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster. Then, he activated Diagram, Set Spellbook of Secrets, and destroyed his Spellbook with Diagram to add True Draco Heritage to his hand. He activated it and used its effect to draw a card. He Set a card to his back row before passing.

Tahan opened up with Set Rotation, Upstart Goblin, Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King, Union Hangar, Terraforming, and Dragonic Diagram.

He activated Upstart Goblin to draw True Draco Heritage and give Silverman 1000 Life Points, and Silverman Chained Majesty Maiden’s effect to add Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior to his hand. Tahan activated Union Hangar next, using its effect to add C-Crush Wyvern to his hand. He Summoned it and equipped it with B-Buster Drake by using Union Hangar. Next, he activated Dragonic Diagram, prompting Silverman to flip True King’s Return and activate its effect to Tribute Summon Master Peace by Tributing off Heritage and Majesty Maiden. He destroyed Tahan’s Diagram with the effect of his Heritage. Next, Tahan activated Terraforming to add Diagram to his hand and activated it; but Silverman immediately destroyed it with Master Peace’s effect by banishing Disciples from his Graveyard. Finally, Tahan activated Set Rotation, Setting Dragonic Diagram on his field and Setting Gateway to Chaos on Silverman’s field. Tahan flipped Diagram and used its effect to destroy his B-Buster Drake and add True King’s Return to his hand. Then he added A-Assault Core to his hand with the effect of B-Buster Drake. Tahan Set True King’s return and then activated True Draco Heritage. He used Heritage’s effect to gain a Summon and Tribute True King’s Return and C-Crush Wyvern for Master Peace. Then, he used the Wyvern’s effect to Special Summon A-Assault Core from his hand in Attack Position. Tahan used the effect of his True Draco Heritage to draw 3 cards next, picking up Twin Twisters, Gold Gadget, and Silver Gadget from the top of his Deck. He banished A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern from his Graveyard to Special Summon ABC-Dragon Buster in his Extra Monster Zone. Master Peace attacked directly, and when Silverman used the effect of his True King’s Return to try to Special Summon Master Peace from his own Graveyard, Tahan Chained the effect of his Dragon Buster to banish True King’s Return. Master Peace and ABC-Dragon Buster attacked directly, dropping Silverman down to 2750 Life Points. Tahan Set a card to his back row in Main Phase 2 and passed.

Silverman Set a card to his back row and Tahan activated the effect of his ABC-Dragon Buster, discarding Gold Gadget from his hand to banish it. Silverman promptly conceded.

Calvin Tahan takes a quick victory in Duel 1!

Duel Two

Silverman started off Duel 2 by Setting Disciples and Tributing it for Majesty Maiden.

He Set 3 cards to his back row before passing.

Tahan opened up Duel 2 with Union Hangar, B-Buster Drake, Twin Twisters, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Kumongous, the Sticky String Kaiju, and True King’s Return. He Tributed Silverman’s Majesty Maiden to give him Kumongous first, and then activated Twin Twisters by discarding True King’s Return to try to destroy 2 of his opponent’s back row cards; but Silverman Chained Magic Deflector to negate it! Tahan Set B-Buster Drake before passing.

Silverman Summoned Spellbook Magician of Prophecy and tried to use its effect, but lost out to Ash Blossom. He attacked Tahan’s face-down B-Buster Drake with Kumongous, and Tahan added A-Assault Core to his hand with its effect. Spellbook Magician of Prophecy attacked directly.

Tahan activated Union Hangar and used its effect to add B-Buster Drake to his hand. He Summoned it and used Union Hangar’s effect to equip it with a C-Crush Wyvern from his Deck. He attacked Spellbook Magician of Prophecy with A-Assault Core and then banished B-Buster Drake from his Graveyard and A-Assault Core and C-Crush Wyvern from his field to Special Summon ABC-Dragon Buster. He discarded True Draco Heritage next to try to banish Silverman’s face-down Forbidden Chalice, and Silverman Chained the Chalice to negate the Dragon Buster’s effect.

Silverman activated Pot of Desires and banished the top 10 cards of his Deck to draw 2 cards. In his End Phase, Tahan banished Silverman’s face-down Disciples with his Dragon Buster’s effect, and separated his Dragon Buster back into A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern. He used Hangar’s effect to attach A-Assault Core to B-Buster Drake.

Tahan drew Cosmic Cyclone and then Special Summoned A-Assault Core from his Spell & Trap Card Zone. He equipped it with a C-Crush Wyvern from his Deck by using Union Hangar. Next, Tahan sent A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern to his Graveyard to Link Summon Decode Talker, and used A-Assault Core’s effect to add B-Buster Drake from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, he banished an A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern from his Graveyard to Special Summon ABC-Dragon Buster. He discarded a card from his hand to banish his opponent’s Kumongous, and then banished another A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern from his Graveyard to Special Summon a second ABC-Dragon Buster linked to Decode Talker. Direct attacks from Decode Talker and both copies of ABC-Dragon Buster finished Silverman off!
