Round 8 Feature Match: Lorez Walker vs. Ricardo Ochoa

October 22nd, 2017

Lorez Walker from Houston, Texas is Dueling against Ricardo Ochoa from Oklahoma City. Walker is using a True Draco Deck, updated with three copies of Evenly Matched from Circuit Break in the Main Deck to adapt to the changing tournament scene. Ochoa is using a SPYRAL Deck, which seems to be the most dominant Deck in the tournament this weekend. Both of these Duelists are currently 5-2 in the tournament, so they both need a victory in this round in order to maintain hope of a top cut finish. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Walker opened up Duel 1 with True Draco Apocalypse, Spellbook of Secrets, Dragonic Diagram, and 2 copies of Evenly Matched.

He activated Spellbook of Secrets to add Spellbook Magician of Prophecy to his hand and then Normal Summoned it, using its effect to add Spellbook of Knowledge to his hand. He activated it and sent his Spellbook Magician to the Graveyard to draw Terraforming and Lose 1 Turn from the top of his Deck. He used Terraforming next, adding Dragonic Diagram from his Deck to his hand. He activated the Diagram, Set Apocalypse, and then used his Diagram’s effect to destroy an Evenly Matched from his hand and add True Draco Heritage from his Deck to his hand. Then he activated another Diagram and used its effect to destroy his face-down True Draco Apocalypse and add Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster. He activated Heritage and used its effect to draw a card, picking up another Heritage. Then he used Heritage’s effect to gain a Tribute Summon, and Tributed Heritage to Summon Majesty Maiden. He Set Heritage and Lose 1 Turn before ending his turn.

Ochoa Normal Summon SPYRAL Quik-Fix and activated its effect. Walker Chained Majesty Maiden’s effect to add Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King to his hand, and then Quik-Fix added SPYRAL GEAR – Drone to Ochoa’s hand. Ochoa activated Raigeki to destroy Majesty Maiden next, and then activated Double Summon. He used his extra Normal Summon to add Drone to the field, and then used its effect to rearrange the top 3 cards of Walker’s Deck. He combined his 2 monsters to Link Summon SPYRAL Double Helix next, and used its effect; but Walker flipped Lose 1 Turn to negate it! Ochoa Set a card to his back row and then attacked with Double Helix, dropping Walker down to 6100 Life Points.

Walker drew Droll & Lock Bird and then used the effect of his Diagram to destroy Evenly Matched from his hand and add True Draco Apocalypse from his Deck to his hand. He Set it and then Tributed it along with Heritage to Normal Summon Master Peace! He used the effects of Apocalypse and Heritage to try to destroy Ochoa’s Double Helix and face-down SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue, and Ochoa Chained the effect of his Rescue to add Quik-Fix from his Graveyard to his hand before the Rescue was destroyed. Master Peace attacked directly, dropping Ochoa down to 5050 Life Points.

Ochoa Summoned Quik-Fix and used its effect to add SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red to his hand. Walker discarded Droll & Lock Bird from his hand to prevent Ochoa from searching for any more cards to add to his hand during the turn. Ochoa activated the effect of the SPYRAL Super Agent in his hand next, declaring “Spells” and revealing Pot of Duality from the top of Walker’s Deck. He Special Summoned the Super Agent which switched into Defense Position due to Lose 1 Turn, and then combined Super Agent with Quik-Fix to Link Summon Double Helix. He activated Big Red to Special Summon Drone from his Graveyard next. He attacked Master Peace with Double Helix, and Walker used the effect of Master Peace to banish True Draco Apocalypse from his Graveyard and destroy Double Helix. Next, Ochoa banished Rescue from his Graveyard to Special Summon Double Helix back to the field, and attacked Master Peace. He increased Double Helix’s ATK by 1500 by Tributing Drone, allowing Double Helix to destroy Master Peace in battle. Since Master Peace was immune to Spells, Dragonic Diagram couldn’t protect it. Next, Ochoa banished Big Red and Drone from his Graveyard to add SPYRAL Super Agent from his Graveyard to his hand.

Walker drew Pot of Duality and activated it to reveal Card of Demise, Pot of Desires, and Pot of Duality from the top of his Deck. He added Card of Demise to his hand, and Ochoa discarded Droll & Lock Bird from his hand to prevent Walker from using the Card of Demise. Walker ended his turn.

Ochoa activated the effect of the Super Agent in his hand to try top Special Summon it to the field by declaring “Monsters”, but it was stuck in his hand when he revealed Terraforming on top of Walker’s Deck. Next, he used his Double Helix’s effect by declaring “Spell”, and Special Summoned SPYRAL Master Plan next to Double Helix. He then combined Double Helix with Master Plan to Link Summon Decode Talker and used Master Plan’s effect to add SPYRAL Resort and SPYRAL Quik-Fix to his hand. He activated the Resort and then Normal Summoned Super Agent. Next, he discarded Glow-Up Bulb from his hand to Special Summon Quik-Fix from his Graveyard, and used the effect of Glow-Up Bulb to Special Summon it from his Graveyard by sending Set Rotation from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He then combined Quik-Fix and Glow-Up Bulb to Xyz Summon Sylvan Princessprite and detached Quik-Fix from it to activate its effect, which was negated by Lose 1 Turn. Next, he discarded SPYRAL GEAR – Utility Wire from his hand to Special Summon Quik-Fix from his Graveyard, and combined Princessprite and 2 Quik-Fixes to Link Summon Gaia Saber, the Lightning Shadow. Direct attacks from Super Agent, Decode Talker, and Gaia Saber wiped out Walker’s remaining 5650 Life Points!

Ricardo Ochoa fights through Lose 1 Turn to win the first Duel with SPYRALs!

Duel Two

Walker opened up Duel 2 with Spellbook of Secrets, Set Rotation, Spellbook Magician of Prophecy, Pot of Desires, and Anti-Spell Fragrance. He activated Spellbook of Secrets to add Spellbook of Knowledge to his hand and then Normal Summoned Spellbook Magician of Prophecy. He used its effect to add another Spellbook of Secrets to his hand and then used Spellbook of Knowledge to send the Spellbook of Secrets in his hand to the Graveyard and draw another Pot of Desires and Master Peace. He activated Set Rotation next, Setting Oracle of Zefra to Ochoa’s field and Dragonic Diagram to his own field. Then he activated Pot of Desires, banishing the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down to draw Pot of Duality and Droll & Lock Bird. He activated the Pot of Duality to reveal Terraforming, Set Rotation, and Majesty Maiden from the top of his Deck, choosing to add Majesty Maiden to his hand and shuffle the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Then, he Set Anti-Spell Fragrance and used his Diagram’s effect to destroy a Pot of Desires in his hand and add True Draco Heritage from his Deck to his hand. He activated the Heritage and then used its effect to gain a Tribute Summon, Tributing his Spellbook Magician and his Heritage to Summon Master Peace.

Ochoa drew a card and when Walker flipped Anti-Spell Frangrance, Ochoa Chained Twin Twisters, discarding SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue to destroy his face-down Oracle of Zefra and Walker’s Anti-Spell Fragrance.

Ochoa activated Terraforming next, adding SPYRAL Resort to his hand, prompting Walker to discard Droll & Lock Bird. Ochoa activated One for One next, sending Drone from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb from his Deck. He ended his turn with a Glow-Up Bulb in Defense Position.

Walker drew Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior and then used his Diagram’s effect to destroy Majesty Maiden from his hand and grab True Draco Apocalypse. He activated Master Peace’s effect by banishing Anti-Spell Fragrance from his Graveyard to destroy Glow-Up Bulb and then attacked directly with Master Peace. He Set True Draco Apocalypse before ending his turn.

Ochoa activated SPYRAL Resort and activated its effect; but Walker Chained the effect of Master Peace to banish Heritage from his Graveyard and destroy the Resort. Next, Ochoa activated another SPYRAL Resort, and used its effect to add SPYRAL Super Agent from his Deck to his hand. Time in the round was called, and Ochoa continued his turn by banishing SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from his Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL GEAR – Drone from his Graveyard. He activated its effect to rearrange the top 3 cards of Walker’s Deck, and then Special Summoned Super Agent from his hand by declaring “Spell” and revealing Set Rotation from the top of Walker’s Deck. He used his Super Agent’s effect to destroy Walker’s Dragonic Diagram and then combined his Super Agent with his Drone to Link Summon SPYRAL Double Helix. He used his Double Helix’s effect to Special Summon Master Plan from his Deck behind the Double Helix, and then Normal Summoned Quik-Fix. He used Quik-Fix’s effect to add Big Red from his Deck to his hand and then combined Double Helix with Master Plan to Link Summon Decode Talker, Linked to Quik-Fix. Master Plan’s effect added SPYRAL Resort and SPYRAL GEAR – Drone to his hand and then Walker flipped Apocalypse and used its effect to Tribute it to Summon Ignis Heat. He tried using Apocalypse’s effect to destroy Decode Talker, but Decode Talker’s effect activated by Tributing Quik-Fix to negate the activation of Apocalypse’s effect. Walker used the effect of Ignis Heat to add Disciples of the True Dracophoenix to his hand. Ochoa activated another SPYRAL Resort next, and used its effect to add SPYRAL Sleeper to his hand. He activated Big Red to Special Summon Super Agent linked to Decode Talker and then discarded Drone from his hand to Special Summon Quik-Fix. Next, he used Quik-Fix’s effect to add SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort to his hand. He banished 3 SPYRAL cards from his Graveyard to Special Summon SPYRAL Sleeper to his field Linked to Decode Talker and then equipped it with the Last Resort in his hand. He used Glow-Up Bulb’s effect next, Special Summoning it by sending a Super Agent from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. He attacked Master Peace with his 3300 ATK Decode Talker to destroy Master Peace in battle, and then used Sleeper’s effect to destroy Ignis Heat. Direct attacks from the rest of Ochoa’s monsters dropped Walker down to 2850 Life Points.

In Main Phase 2, he Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with Super Agent to Synchro Summon Naturia Beast, and Walker conceded.
