It’s the final round for tonight! We’re going to table 47 for Round 9 where we’re featuring Michael Kirklen Parott from North Carolina with his Trickstar Deck facing off against Peter Michael Serrano-Vargas and his SPYRAL Deck. Both players have 2 losses and are looking to make Day 2. 7 wins ensures a Day 2 spot while anyone with 6 wins needs to hope that they’re in the top 128 after this round. Will these Duelists make it to Day 2?  Let’s find out! It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Serrano-Vargas won the roll and elected to go first. Parott started with a hand of Trickstar Reincarnation, Evenly Matched, Honest, Solemn Strike, and Scapegoat. Serrano-Vargas started off with Terraforming to add SPYRAL Resort to his hand. SPYRAL Resort was activated and it was used to add SPYRAL Quik-Fix to his hand. He then Normal Summoned SPYRAL Quik-Fix and activated its effect to add SPYRAL GEAR – Drone to hand. He then activated Machine Duplication to Special Summon 2 more copies of SPYRAL Quik-Fix from the Deck each in Defense Position. He activated both of their effects to add the other 2 Drones from the Deck to his hand. He sent 2 SPYRAL Quik-Fix to the Graveyard to Link Summon SPYRAL Double Helix! He then activated SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s in-Graveyard effect, discarding SPYRAL GEAR – Drone to Special Summon it! SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s effect activated and added SPYRAL GEAR – Utility Wire to his hand. Next, SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red came down to Special Summon SPYRAL GEAR – Drone, whose effect let Serrano-Vargas rearrange the top 3 cards. He then used SPYRAL Double Helix’s effect calling Monster and revealing Trickstar Lilybell, Special Summoning SPYRAL Master Plan and using its effect. SPYRAL Master Plan’s effect searched for SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue, then SPYRAL Master Plan and SPYRAL Double Helix were used to Link Summon Decode Talker. SPYRAL Master Plan’s Graveyard effect was used to search for SPYRAL Sleeper and SPYRAL Resort. The other 2 SPYRAL Quik-Fix were used to Xyz Summon Lyrilusc – Recital Starling! Its effect was used to boost Decode Talker’s ATK and Recital Starling and SPYRAL GEAR – Drone were used to Link Summon Proxy Dragon. Next, SPYRAL Resort came down, which searched for SPYRAL Super Agent and its effect was used to Special Summon itself. He then discarded SPYRAL GEAR – Drone to Special Summon SPYRAL Quik-Fix from the Graveyard. He then used SPYRAL Quik-Fix and Decode Talker to Link Summon Firewall Dragon. He then activated another SPYRAL Quik-Fix discarding another SPYRAL GEAR – Drone, then Special Summoned another SPYRAL Quik-Fix discarding SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue from hand. Both SPYRAL Quik-Fix were used to Xyz Summon Sylvan Princessprite! Princessprite’s effect excavated Set Rotation which was added to hand. He then discarded D.D. Crow to Special Summon SPYRAL Quik-Fix again and SPYRAL Quik-Fix, Proxy Dragon and Princessprite combined for a second Firewall Dragon! Then, Serrano-Vargas banished SPYRAL Resort, SPYRAL GEAR – Drone and SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red to Special Summon SPYRAL Sleeper from the hand. SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort was equipped to SPYRAL Sleeper. In the End Phase, SPYRAL GEAR – Drone was shuffled back into the deck for SPYRAL Resort.

Parott drew Lilybell. He went into the Battle Phase with an empty field but Serrano-Vargas activated Set Rotation, giving Parott Gateway to Chaos and himself SPYRAL Resort. As a result, Parott was cut off from activating the Evenly Matched from his hand. (Parott noted that this was the first time that happened to him today.)  He Set 4 cards to the back row and Normal Summoned Trickstar Lilybell. He passed there, but SPYRAL Sleeper’s effect was used to destroy Solemn Strike and Scapegoat. (SPYRAL Sleeper targeted itself but wasn’t destroyed because of SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort.)

On Serrano-Vargas’s Standby Phase, he activated SPYRAL Sleeper to destroy the last 2 Set back row cards, and Parott Chained Trickstar Reincarnation to banish Parott’s Double Summon and draw a card. Parott’s Evenly Matched was also destroyed. He then went into the Battle Phase and Parott conceded the Duel.

Serrano-Vargas takes Duel 1 with a flurry of Link Summons.

Duel 2

Parott elected to go first. He started with Trickstar Candina, Honest, Trickstar Light Stage, Raigeki and Chain Summoning. He started with Trickstar Light Stage, searching for Trickstar Lycoris. He then Normal Summoned Trickstar Candina, activated the effect, and Serrano-Vargas chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring; then Parott Chained Chain Summoning giving him a total of 3 Normal Summons this turn. After the Chain resolved, he activated Trickstar Lycoris to swap with Trickstar Candina, then Trickstar Candina was Normal Summoned for a second time and its effect searched for a second Trickstar Lycoris. Then the second Trickstar Lycoris swapped in for Trickstar Candina, and Trickstar Candina was Normal Summoned for a third time, searching for Trickstar Reincarnation. He Set Trickstar Reincarnation and passed.

Serrano-Vargas drew and took 800 damage from the total of 2 Trickstar Lycoris and Trickstar Light Stage. Serrano-Vargas activated Dark Hole and Parott chained Trickstar Reincarnation to have Serrano-Vargas banish Machine Duplication, SPYRAL Super Agent, Twin Twisters and SPYRAL Master Plan, drawing 4 cards and taking 2000 damage before the 2 Trickstar Lycoris and the Trickstar Candina were destroyed. SPYRAL GEAR – Drone was Normal Summoned and its effect let Serrano-Vargas rearrange the top 3 cards of Parott’s Deck. SPYRAL Super Agent was activated calling Monster, revealing Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries. SPYRAL Super Agent’s effect destroyed Trickstar Light Stage, then SPYRAL Super Agent and SPYRAL GEAR – Drone were sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon SPYRAL Double Helix whose effect called Monster and SPYRAL Quik-Fix was Special Summoned to add SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red from Deck to hand. Then, SPYRAL Double Helix and SPYRAL Quik-Fix were used to Link Summon Decode Talker. SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red came down next, which Special Summoned SPYRAL Double Helix from the Graveyard. SPYRAL Quik-Fix in the Graveyard was activated by discarding another one from hand, and SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s effect was activated to add a SPYRAL GEAR from Deck to hand, but Parott chained the in-Graveyard Trickstar Reincarnation to Special Summon Trickstar Lycoris. SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s effect resolved to add SPYRAL GEAR – Drone to hand and Trickstar Lycoris burned for 200. SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s effect in the Graveyard was activated, discarding SPYRAL GEAR – Drone, and the search effect was used to add another SPYRAL GEAR – Drone, whileTrickstar Lycoris burned for another 200. Both SPYRAL Quik-Fixes were used to Xyz Summon Sylvan Princessprite whose effect excavated Raigeki which was added to hand (Trickstar Lycoris burned for 200). SPYRAL GEAR – Drone was discarded to Special Summon SPYRAL Quik-Fix from the Graveyard. SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s effect activated to search for SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort (Trickstar Lycoris burned for 200) then SPYRAL Quik-Fixes were used to Xyz Summon Lyrilusc – Recital Starling and its effect was used to boost Decode Talker’s ATK by 600. Recital Starling’s effect let Serrano-Vargas add D.D. Crow to hand, and Trickstar Lycoris burned for another 200. SPYRAL Quik-Fix’s effect was activated again, pitching SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort and its effect added SPYRAL GEAR – Utility Wire to hand (and Trickstar Lycoris burned for 200). SPYRAL Quik-Fix and Recital Starling were used to Link Summon Proxy Dragon and Serrano-Vargas discarded Evenly Matched to Special Summon SPYRAL Quik-Fix. He then discarded D.D. Crow to Special Summon SPYRAL Quik-Fix then Raigeki came down and that was enough to end the Match. Parott had Honest and Raigeki in hand but without a LIGHT monster on the field, there was no way to stop the incoming onslaught.

Parott starts off with the Trickstar combo, but SPYRALs fight through with Dark Hole and Raigeki to sweep Trickstars!
