Top 4 Feature Match: Jose Lagunes Maitret vs. Luis Gabriel Romo Rosas
We just saw Jose Lagunes take down Alejandro Navarro’s SPYRAL Deck in the last round’s Feature Match. He’s back again, now playing a Pendulum Magician mirror match against Luis Romo, from San Luis.
Duel 1
Romo won the dice roll and chose to play first. He played Double Iris Magician, then Duelist Alliance. That baited out Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from Lagunes, leaving Romo free to play Pot of Desires! He played Performapal Skullcrobat Joker next, getting Wisdom-Eye Magician. He played it and used its effect to put Oafdragon Magician on the field. Since Wisdom-Eye was destroyed, he activated Astrograph Sorcerer in his hand! Astrograph hit the field, and he added a new Wisdom-Eye to his hand. Oafdragon put the other Wisdom-Eye in his hand, then he Pendulum Summoned Black Fang from his hand. He stacked it with Joker for Tornado Dragon, and destroyed his Double Iris so he could search for Time Pendulumgraph. He Set one card to finish his turn.
Lagunes had a hand of 2 Harmonizing Magician, Time Pendulumgraph, Duelist Alliance, and Double Iris Magician. He placed Double Iris in his Pendulum Zone, and used Duelist Alliance. Romo flipped Time Pendulumgraph to destroy his Oafdragon and Lagunes’s Double Iris. Unfortunately, that wouldn’t stop Duelist Alliance from resolving – Lagunes used Duelist Alliance and Double Iris to add Pendulum Call and Star Pendulumgraph to his hand. He activated Pendulum Call, discarding Harmonizing Magician, to get Oafdragon and Wisdom-Eye. He played both, along with Star Pendulumgraph, and Pendulum Summoned his second Harmonizing Magician. That brought Black Fang Magician to the field, and Romo used Tornado Dragon to destroy Star Pendulumgraph before things got out of hand. Lagunes tuned Harmonizing Magician to Black Fang for Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer, and Oafdragon returned Harmonizing Magician to Lagunes’s hand. Ignister Prominence destroyed Tornado Dragon in battle, and Lagunes Set Time Pendulumgraph to finish his turn.
Romo had no cards in his Pendulum Zones, but Lagunes did – that allowed Romo to play Duelist Alliance! He got Double Iris, and played both it and Wisdom-Eye Magician in his Pendulum Zone. He used Wisdom-Eye to get Purple Poison Magician, then activated Astrograph Sorcerer in his hand! He Special Summoned it, but did not search for a new card. He Pendulum Summoned Double Iris from the Extra Deck and Wisdom-Eye from his hand, using them to play Supreme King Dragon Dark Rebellion! He used Double Iris on Astrograph Sorcerer, letting him get Time Pendulumgraph to his hand. Dark Rebellion attacked, and Lagunes flipped Time Pendulumgraph! He targeted his Wisdom-Eye and Dark Rebellion. Due to the lingering effect of Pendulum Call, Wisdom-Eye couldn’t be destroyed, so Time Pendulumgraph would send another card to the Graveyard as well! Romo had no way to survive after that, and conceded the first Duel!
Lagunes is just one win away from the finals! Romo still has a chance, but he’ll need to win two in a row now. He chose to play first in the next Duel.
Duel 2
Romo began with Performapal Skullcrobat Joker, searching for Oafdragon Magician. He played it and Wisdom-Eye in his Pendulum Zone, and Wisdom-Eye replaced itself with Double Iris. He used Oafdragon to get Wisdom-Eye back to his hand, and Pendulum Summoned Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer in Defense Position. It destroyed Double Iris, letting him search for another Joker and a Time Pendulumgraph. He used Pot of Desires next, banishing ten cards only to have Lagunes use Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Romo stacked Joker and Pendulum Sorcerer for Tornado Dragon, Set one card, and passed his turn.
Lagunes had 2 Pot of Desires, Wavering Eyes, Double Iris, and drew another Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He played Pot of Desires to draw Wisdom-Eye Magician and Maxx “C”. He played Wisdom-Eye in the Pendulum Zone, and it was immediately destroyed by Tornado Dragon. He Set Double Iris.
Romo played Skullcrobat Joker, getting Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer. He played Wisdom-Eye in his Pendulum Zone, and Lagunes used Maxx “C”. Romo continued, using Wisdom-Eye to put Black Fang Magician on the field. He Pendulum Summoned Black Fang, Double Iris, and Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer from his hand, and Pendulum Sorcerer had nothing to search for. He used Tornado Dragon to destroy Black Fang, and Special Summoned another Joker. Lagunes had only the Set Double Iris to defend himself, and he conceded!
Romo evens the score! Only one of these Duelists can proceed to the finals, and this final Duel will determine which! Lagunes will start this time.
Duel 3
Lagunes opened up with Astrograph Sorcerer, Harmonizing Magician, Performapal Skullcrobat Joker, Purple Poison Magician, and Dimensional Barrier. He played Joker to get Wisdom-Eye Magician, placing it and Purple Poison in the Pendulum Zones. He used Wisdom-Eye’s effect to put Double Iris Magician on the field, then Special Summoned Astrograph Sorcerer, adding another Wisdom-Eye to his hand. He Pendulum Summoned the first Wisdom-Eye as well as Harmonizing Magician, and Special Summoned a Double Iris from his Deck. He tuned Harmonizing Magician to Wisdom-Eye for PSY-Framelord Omega, and banished it to banish Astrograph Sorcerer from Romo’s hand. He stacked Joker and Double Iris for Tornado Dragon in Defense Position, using it to destroy his Double Iris. He tried to search with Double Iris, and Romo used Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Lagunes Set Dimensional Barrier to finish his turn.
Romo played Zaphion, the Timelord! It attacked Tornado Dragon, and Lagunes flipped Dimensional Barrier declaring Pendulums. Zaphion’s effect shuffled Purple Poison back into the Deck.
Lagunes drew Harmonizing Magician and returned Omega to the field. He banished it again, and once again banished Astrograph Sorcerer from Romo’s hand. He passed his turn, being forced to simply wait out Zaphion.
Romo shuffled Zaphion into the Deck. He played Pendulum Call, discarding Black Fang Magician, and added Harmonizing Magician and Double Iris to his hand. He played Purple Poison and Double Iris in his Pendulum Zones, and Pendulum Summoned Harmonizing Magician. He Special Summoned Purple Poison, then Xyz Summoned Timestar Magician. It added Skullcrobat Joker to his hand, and he Normal Summoned it to get Wisdom-Eye. Joker attacked Lagunes’s Astrograph Sorcerer, and Purple Poison boosted it to win the battle. Timestar attacked directly.
Lagunes drew a new Astrograph Sorcerer, adding it to his hand of Harmonizing Magician and Wisdom-Eye Magician. He returned PSY-Framelord Omega to the field, then played Wisdom-Eye and Harmonizing Magician in his back row. Romo flipped Wavering Eyes! Lagunes lost both of his cards, while Romo lost none due to his Pendulum Call from last turn! Lagunes Special Summoned Astrograph Sorcerer, and added a new Wisdom-Eye to his hand. He sent Astrograph to destroy Timestar, and Romo used his Purple Poison’s effect to give his monster 1200 ATK – Lagunes picked up his cards!
Luis Romo is taking Pendulum Magicians to the grand finals!
