Round 10 Feature Match: Johnathan Barber vs. Gavin Reiniche

February 18th, 2018

Welcome to Round 10! We have 2 more rounds of Swiss before a cut to the Top 32 playoff. We wanted to feature a Dinosaur Deck and heard there was one floating around the tables at 7-2. It turns out there were two Dinosaur Decks playing each other. How cool is that?!  Both Johnathan Barber from Jacksonville, Florida and Gavin Reiniche from Chattanooga, Tennessee have Dinosaur decks; Barber has a 40-card Deck with True Kings while Reiniche has a 60-card deck with Plants and Zombies along with Dinosaurs. Who’s going back to the stone age?  Let’s find out! It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Barber won the roll and elected to go first. He started with Monster Reborn, Ultimate Conductor Tyranno, Fossil Dig, Soul-Eating Oviraptor, and Giant Rex. He started with Fossil Dig to add Miscellaneousaurus to hand. He the Normal Summoned Soul-Eating Oviraptor and used the effect to dump Babycerasaurus and then activated Miscellaneousaurus from hand. Next, Monster Reborn came down to Special Summon Babycerasaurus from the Graveyard. Then, Soul-Eating Oviraptor activated, destroying Babycerasaurus and bringing out Miscellaneousaurus from the Graveyard. Babycerasaurus’s effect activated next, Special Summoning Jurrac Dino! Next, he sent Miscellaneousaurus and Jurrac Dino to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Yazi, Evil of the Yang Zing! He then banished 2 Dinosaurs to Special Summon Ultimate Conductor Tyranno! He passed there.

Reiniche Normal Summoned Lonefire Blossom! Barber used Ultimate Conductor Tyranno’s effect to destroy Giant Rex from his hand to turn Lonefire Blossom face-down. Reiniche then asked for the number of cards in Barber’s Deck in order to activate That Grass Looks Greener! He sent a whole bunch of plants and Dinos to the Graveyard!

He used the effect of Overtex Qoatlus in the Graveyard to add Double Evolution Pill, which was activated, banishing Giant Rex and Gem-Knight Garnet to Special Summon Ultimate Conductor Tyranno from the Deck ignoring Summoning conditions! Next, Giant Rex was Special Summoned because it was banished, then Reiniche activated Ultimate Conductor Tyranno destroying Lonefire Blossom from his hand to turn Barber’s field face-down. Next, Reiniche activated Glow-Up Bulb, sending Mezuki to the Graveyard to Special Summon the Level 1 Plant. Mezuki’s effect was activated to banish it to Special Summon the Shiranui Solitaire sent from That Grass Looks Greener. Shiranui Solitaire’s effect was next, Tributing it to Special Summon Uni-Zombie from the Deck. Next, Uni-Zombie’s effect was activated, discarding Shiranui Solitaire to increase its Level, then Uni-Zombie and Giant Rex were used to Synchro Summon PSY-Framelord Omega! Next, Reiniche banished Performage Damage Juggler to add Performage Hat Tricker from Deck to hand. Performage Hat Tricker was Special Summoned. Going into battle, Ultimate Conductor Tyranno attacked into the face-down Yazi, Evil of the Yang Zing, and Yazi, Evil of the Yang Zing was sent to the Graveyard by Ultimate Conductor Tyranno’s effect. Then the Tyranno cleared the rest of Barber’s field. Reiniche then attacked with the rest of his monsters and when he announced that he was going to activate Fairy Tail – Snow’s effect to have it Special Summon itself, Barber decided that was enough and it was time to go to game 2!

Duel 2

Barber elected for Reiniche to go first. Reiniche started off with a Normal Summoned Mezuki. He then activated Left Arm Offering and banished his hand of Dogoran, the Mad Flame Kaiju, Ultimate Conductor Tyranno and Shiranui Spiritmaster but Barber chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it! Brutal! Reiniche passed.

Barber started with hand of Lost World, Miscellaneousaurus, PSY-Framegear Gamma, Dogoran, the Mad Flame Kaiju, and True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer. He Normal Summoned Miscellaneousaurus and used Lost World to give Reiniche a Jurraegg Token. Miscellaneousaurus then attacked the Token but Barber used Lost World’s effect to destroy Babycerasaurus from Deck to save Reiniche’s Token from battle destruction. Babycerasaurus’s effect Special Summoned Soul-Eating Oviraptor from the Deck and Soul-Eating Oviraptor’s effect added another Soul-Eating Oviraptor from Deck to hand. The on-field Soul-Eating Oviraptor attacked and destroyed Reiniche’s Mezuki. In Main Phase 2, the 2 Dinosaurs were used to Xyz Summon Evolzar Laggia!

Reiniche drew and activated Fossil Dig but with that being Reiniche’s only possible play, Barber easily activated Evolzar Laggia to negate it. Reiniche conceded there and we’re going to game 3!

Duel 3

Reiniche elected to go first. He started off with Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio, discarding Mezuki to Special Summon Predaplant Darlingtonia Cobra whose effect added Brilliant Fusion! He stacked the two plants together to Xyz Summon M-X-Saber Invoker! Its effect was used to Special Summon Heroic Challenger – Thousand Blades from the Deck, then the 2 monsters were used to Link Summon Missus Radiant. Next, Brilliant Fusion was activated, sending Performage Trick Clown and Gem-Knight Garnet to Fusion Summon Gem-Knight Seraphinite! Performage Trick Clown was Special Summoned from the Graveyard, then Thousand Blades came out right after. He used Seraphinite, Missus Radiant and Thousand Blades to Link Summon Curious, the Lightsworn Dominion! Curious, the Lightsworn Dominion’s effect sent Overtex Qoatlus to the Graveyard then both Overtex Qoatlus’s effect and Curious, the Lightsworn Dominion’s effect activated, with Double Evolution Pill being added to hand and Shiranui Solitaire, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and another card being sent to the Graveyard. He then activated That Grass Looks Greener for 10 cards. He hit another Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Monster Reborn, Soul-Eating Oviraptor, and Jurrac Aeolo among the cards sent. He then used Mezuki’s effect to Special Summon Uni-Zombie from the Graveyard. He used Uni-Zombie’s effect to send Shiranui Spiritmaster from Deck to Graveyard. He then activated Double Evolution Pill, banishing Soul-Eating Oviraptor and Gem-Knight Garnet to Special Summon Overtex Qoatlus from the Deck, ignoring Special Summoning conditions. Next, Performage Hat Tricker and Uni-Zombie were used to Synchro Summon PSY-Framelord Omega! He passed there with a field of Curious, the Lightsworn Dominion, PSY-Framelord Omega, and Overtex Qoatlus.

Barber started with a hand of Dragonic Diagram, Mare Mare, 2 copies of True King Bahrastos, the Vanisher, True King’s Return and Terraforming. Reiniche’s PSY-Framelord Omega sent a banished Mezuki back to the Graveyard. He Set True King’s Return and Terraforming, then activated Dragonic Diagram. Reiniche chained PSY-Framelord Omega, banishing Mare Mare. Dragonic Diagram’s effect let Barber destroy a True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer from his hand to add another True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer to his hand. The one in his Graveyard activated to Special Summon True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher. He passed there.

In Reiniche’s Standby Phase, PSY-Framelord Omega returned to the field along with Barber’s Mare Mare to his hand. He activated Gold Sarcophagus to banish Giant Rex which was immediately Special Summoned. Reiniche then activated Mezuki to Special Summon Shuranui Spiritmaster from the Graveyard. Going into the Battle Phase, Giant Rex attacked into True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher but Reiniche failed to realize that True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher’s DEF was 2200 thanks to Dragonic Diagram. Overtex Qoatlus attacked into True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher instead. Barber then activated his Set True King’s Return and Special Summoned True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer back from the Graveyard in Defense Position. Time was called at this point. In Main Phase 2, Shiranui Spiritmaster and Giant Rex were used to Xyz Summon Tornado Dragon and its effect was used to destroy Dragonic Diagram.

In Barber’s Standby Phase, Reiniche’s PSY-Framelord Omega was used to put Mezuki back into the Graveyard. Barber activated his Set Terraforming to add another Dragonic Diagram. After the Chain resolved, PSY-Framelord Omega’s effect activated its effect, banishing the Dragonic Diagram! A 1 in 5 chance hit big for Reiniche! Next, Barber activated True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer from his hand, destroying Mare Mare from his hand and the True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer from his field. Because both destroyed monsters were WATER, he banished That Grass Looks Greener and Soul Charge from Reiniche’s Graveyard. The in-Graveyard True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer activated next, which Special Summoned True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher from the Deck in Defense Position. Next, Barber used the 2 True Kings to Xyz Summon True King of All Calamities in the Main Monster Zone directly across from Reiniche’s Curious, the Lightsworn Dominion (since Curious, the Lightsworn Dominion has a Link Arrow pointing up). Barber’s True King of All Calamities attacked into Reiniche’s Overtex Qoatlus, destroying it in battle. In Main Phase 2, Barber activated Terraforming to add another Dragonic Diagram.

Reiniche drew for turn, and PSY-Framelord Omega came back to the field along with Barber’s Dragonic Diagram back to his hand. Barber activated True King of All Calamities‘s effect, detaching 1 material and declaring EARTH. Reiniche passed, but not before Barber used True King’s Return to Special Summon True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher from the Graveyard in Defense Position.

Barber drew Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit for turn. True King of All Calamities used its effect again, declaring FIRE. Barber activated Dragonic Diagram, and its effect, destroying the in-hand Dragonic Diagram to add another True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher to hand. Next, He activated the True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher in his hand, destroying his opponent’s Tornado Dragon and PSY-Framelord Omega, and since both monsters were considered FIRE, True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher’s effect also banished Curious, the Lightsworn Dominion from the field.

All of the monsters attacked directly to end the match!
