Round 2 Feature Match: Ed Acepcion vs. Angelo Peralta
We’re starting Round 2, but for a number of players, this will be their first time sitting down at a table since they spent 200 UDS Points to earn a first round BYE. One of those players is Ed Acepcion from Carson, California who earned his UDS Points by winning four UDS Qualifiers at Murillo Digital Systems in Hawthorne, California. Ed has Magical Musketeers with him – a Deck centered around monsters that let you activate Magical Musket Spells and Traps from your hand during either player’s turn into the Spell/Trap Card Zone directly behind them. He’s up against Angelo Peralta running a 60-card Deck including Invoked, Dinosaurs, and Lightsworn. He earned his points from UDS Qualifiers held at CoreTCG in Pasadena, California. Duel 1
Peralta won the roll and elected for Acepcion to go first. Acepcion started with Magical Musket – Cross-Domination, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Magical Musketeer Kidbrave and 2 copies of Magical Musketeer Doc. He Normal Summoned Kidbrave and passed.
Peralta started off with a Normal Summoned Aleister the Invoker and he activated the effect; but Acepcion chained Magical Musket – Cross-Domination from his hand! Aleister the Invoker’s effect was negated. Acepcion then used the other effect of Kidbrave, discarding Doc to draw 2 cards.
Acepcion drew for turn, Normal Summoned Doc and attacked with Kidbrave, destroying Peralta’s Aleister the Invoker, then Doc attacked directly.
Peralta Normal Summoned Performage Trick Clown, and attacked Doc; but Acepcion activated Magical Musket – Desperado to destroy Trick Clown. Peralta brought it back in Defense Position. Acepcion used the effect of Magical Musketeer Kidbrave to discard 1 card and draw 2.
Acepcion declared an attack with Doc into Trick Clown. Then, on Magical Musketeer Kidbrave’s attack, Peralta activated Performage Damage Juggler to stop the damage. Acepcion Set Solemn Scolding and passed.
Peralta banished Performage Damage Juggler from the Graveyard to add Performage Hat Tricker to his hand. Then he activated Magical Meltdown to add Aleister the Invoker from his Deck to his hand. He then Normal Summoned Aleister the Invoker and activated the effect; but Acepcion chained Magical Musket – Cross-Domination to negate the effect and reduce its ATK and DEF to 0. He then activated Magical Musketeer Kidbrave’s effect, discarding Magical Musketeer – Starfire to draw 2 cards. Peralta then Special Summoned Performage Hat Tricker and used it and Aleister the Invoker to Xyz Summon Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn! He used the effect, sending Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Monster Reborn, and Soul-Eating Oviraptor to the Graveyard. Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn attacked into Doc, destroying it.
Acepcion drew Pot of Duality. He activated it, revealing Ties of the Brethren, Magical Musketeer – Caspar and Magical Musket – Last Stand. He took Magical Musketeer – Caspar. Kidbrave’s effect allowed Acepcion to discard Last Stand to draw 2. He Set Magical Musketeer – Caspar and passed.
Peralta used Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn again, hitting Charge of the Light Brigade, Overtex Qoatlus and PSY-Frame Driver. He attempted to use Overtex Qoatlus’s effect, but Acepcion Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn then destroyed Magical Musketeer Kidbrave.
Acepcion Flip Summoned Magical Musketeer – Caspar. He then activated Pot of Desires behind it, banishing 10 cards to draw 2 more. Magical Musketeer – Caspar’s effect activated, but Peralta Chained Effect Veiler; but Acepcion Chained Solemn Scolding! Magical Musketeer – Caspar’s effect found another Magical Musketeer – Caspar. Acepcion then activated Raigeki to destroy Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn. Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn’s effect activated, but Acepcion activated Magical Musket – Fiendish Deal from his hand to prevent Magical Musketeer – Caspar from being destroyed while it’s face-up. Minerva’s effect sent a Shadoll Dragon to the Graveyard, and its effect destroyed Acepcion’s Magical Musket – Fiendish Deal. Acepcion Normal Summoned a second Magical Musketeer – Caspar and passed.
Peralta activated Invocation, banishing Aleister from his own Graveyard and Magical Musketeer – Starfire from Acepcion’s Graveyard to Fusion Summon Invoked Mechaba! He then used Invocation’s effect, adding it back to the Deck to return a banished Aleister the Invoker to hand. Mechaba attacked one of the Magical Musketeer – Caspars, Acepcion activated Magical Musket – Cross-Domination to negate Mechaba’s effect, and Peralta Chained Mechaba’s effect, discarding Allure of Darkness; but Acepcion Chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy Mechaba! In Main Phase 2, Peralta attempted to Normal Summon Aleister the Invoker but Acepcion negated the Summon with Scolding. Magical Musketeer – Caspar’s effect activated, but Peralta Chained PSY-Framegear Gamma to negate the effect and destroy Magical Musketeer – Caspar! Peralta brought out PSY-Framegear Gamma and a PSY-Frame Driver, then Synchro Summoned PSY-Framelord Omega!
In Acepcion’s Standby Phase, Peralta used PSY-Framelord Omega to send Performage Damage Juggler back to the Graveyard; but Acepcion Chained Ogre to destroy it. Acepcion Set Ties of the Brethren and passed.
Peralta activated Allure of Darkness, drew 2 cards, and banished Shadoll Hedgehog. He Normal Summon Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn, sending Evenly Matched and Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries to the Graveyard. Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn declared an attack, but Acepcion activated Magical Musket – Steady Hands to boost Magical Musketeer – Caspar’s ATK while Magical Musketeer – Caspar’s effect let Acepcion add Magical Musket – Desperado to hand.
Acepcion attacked with Magical Musketeer – Caspar and passed.
Peralta Normal Summoned Soul-Eating Oviraptor and activated the effect but Peralta chained Magical Musket – Cross-Domination from his hand to negate the effect.
Acepcion drew and activated Upstart Goblin, drawing Magical Musket – Cross-Domination. He activated Magical Musket – Desperado from his hand to destroy Soul-Eating Oviraptor and attacked with Magical Musketeer – Caspar.
Peralta Normal Summoned Giant Rex and attacked into Magical Musketeer – Caspar, but Acepcion activated Magical Musket – Cross-Domination to weaken Giant Rex, and that was enough to end the first Duel!
Duel 2
Peralta elected for Acepcion to go first once again. Acepcion started with Fiendish Deal, Pot of Desires, Raigeki, Magical Musket – Cross-Domination and Upstart Goblin. Upstart drew a card, then Pot of Desires banished 10 to draw 2 more. He Set Fiendish Deal and passed.
Peralta Normal Summoned Soul-Eating Oviraptor and used the effect to send Overtex Qoatlus to the Graveyard, and its effect activated in the Graveyard to add Double Evolution Pill from his Deck to his hand. He then activated Double Evolution Pill, banishing Overtex Qoatlus from the Graveyard and a Fairy Tail – Snow from his hand to Special Summon Overtex Qoatlus from the Deck, ignoring Summoning conditions. He attacked with both Dinosaurs and passed.
Acepcion drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He activated Raigeki. Overtex Qoatlus’s effect added another Double Evolution Pill to hand. Pot of Desires came down for Acepcion again, banishing 10 to draw 2 cards. Magical Musketeer – Caspar was Normal Summoned and declared an attack, and Acepcion activated Magical Musket – Steady Hands on declaration. He activated Magical Musketeer – Caspar’s effect, and Peralta Chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit; but Acepcion Chained the Set Magical Musket – Fiendish Deal to keep Magical Musketeer – Caspar alive! The attack went through and Soul-Eating Oviraptor was destroyed. At the end of the Battle Phase, Peralta activated Evenly Matched from the hand. Acepcion kept Magical Musketeer – Caspar on the field, banishing the Magical Musket – Fiendish Deal face-down.
Peralta activated Charge of the Light Brigade, sending the top 3 cards to the Graveyard to add Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn to his hand. Double Evolution Pill was activated, but Acepcion Chained Magical Musket – Last Stand to negate it! Magical Musketeer – Caspar’s effect activated and Peralta Chained PSY-Framegear Gamma but Acepcion chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! The effect went through and Acepcion added Magical Musket – Cross-Domination to hand. Peralta Normal Summoned Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn, sending Performage Damage Juggler and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to the Graveyard. Performage Damage Juggler’s effect added Performage Hat Tricker from Deck to hand. Hat Tricker was Special Summoned and the 2 monsters were used to Synchro Summon PSY-Framelord Omega! He passed there.
Acepcion activated Pot of Duality, revealing Pot of Duality, Ties of the Brethren, and Magical Musket – Last Stand. He took Pot of Duality, and Magical Musketeer – Caspar’s effect added Last Stand to his hand. He Normal Summoned Magical Musketeer Kidbrave and attacked into PSY-Framelord Omega. In the Damage Step, Acepcion activated Magical Musket – Cross-Domination to have Magical Musketeer Kidbrave overpower PSY-Framelord Omega.
Acepcion activated PSY-Framelord Omega’s Graveyard effect, sending it back to the Extra Deck along with Soul-Eating Oviraptor from the Graveyard back to the Main Deck. He Set one card, then activated Allure of Darkness, drawing two and banishing Soul-Eating Oviraptor.
Acepcion Normal Summoned another Magical Musketeer Kidbrave and attacked with both Magical Musketeer Kidbrave and Magical Musketeer – Caspar.
Peralta Set a monster and passed.
Acepcion drew Imperial Iron Wall. He used Magical Musketeer – Caspar and a Magical Musketeer Kidbrave to Xyz Summon Number 47: Nightmare Shark! He used the effect to attack directly and avoided the Set monster (which was Shaddoll Dragon) to win the match!
