Round 2 Feature Match: Raphael Neven vs. Josiah Miller

February 17th, 2018

Raphael Neven is here all the way from the Netherlands! He just won YCS Prague with SPYRAL at the end of 2017 and is looking to keep winning here in 2018. He’s using True Draco in this event, which is already looking to be one of the most popular choices. His opponent is Josiah Miller from Chattanooga, TN, using a Lightsworn Shiranui Deck. Our previous Feature Match had True Draco defeat Lightsworn – can Miller turn the tide or will Neven’s Deck and experience give him the edge? It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Neven began with Dragonic Diagram, Imperial Order, Pot of Duality, Terraforming, and Skill Drain. He played Duality, revealing Terraforming, Diagram, and Dreiath III, the True Dracocavalry General. He took Dreiath, then used Terraforming to get a second Diagram. He activated it and used its effect, and Miller used Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Neven Set Imperial Order and Skill Drain.

Miller played Lonefire Blossom, Tributing it to get another Lonefire, then another, and finally getting Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio. He discarded PSY-Framegear Gamma for Scorpio’s effect, and Neven flipped Skill Drain. Miller banished Pot of Desires and Gold Sarcophagus to activate Left Arm Offering, and Neven flipped Imperial Order! Miller had nothing left but his Scorpio!

Neven drew another Diagram. He Tributed Imperial Order to play Dreiath, then used Diagram to destroy it and add Disciples of the True Dracophoenix to his hand. Dreiath Special Summoned Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster to the field. Neven played another Diagram, destroying Disciples to get True Draco Heritage. He activated Heritage to draw True Draco Apocalypse and Terraforming. When he activated the third Diagram, Miller conceded!

Neven completely shut down Miller’s Deck with a Skill Drain + Imperial Order combo, taking the Duel on just his second turn!

Duel 2

Miller chose to play first this time, and led with That Grass Looks Greener! He sent twenty cards to the Graveyard, including Fairy Tail – Snow, 2 Mezuki, Shiranui Solitaire, Giant Rex, and a Wulf, Lightsworn Beast! He Special Summoned Wulf. He used Mezuki to Special Summon Shiranui Solitaire, and Tributed it to get Uni-Zombie. He had that send another Mezuki to the Graveyard. He banished Giant Rex and some more to Special Summon Snow, and then Special Summoned Giant Rex. He Normal Summoned Performage Trick Clown, using Trick Clown, Snow, and Wulf to play Curious, the Lightsworn Dominion! Trick Clown came back to the field, and Curious sent Performage Damage Juggler to the Graveyard, then sent Performage Hat Tricker, Scorpio, and Radian, the Multidimensional Kaiju to the Graveyard. He banished Damage Juggler from the Graveyard to add a Hat Tricker to his hand, and Special Summoned it. He used Trick Clown, Giant Rex, and Hat Tricker to Xyz Summon Bujinki Amaterasu, detaching Giant Rex to Special Summon Mezuki. He used Uni-Zombie and Mezuki to play PSY-Framelord Omega! He banished two copies of Mezuki to Special Summon Uni-Zombie and Shiranui Spiritmaster, and had Uni-Zombie discard Snow to increase its level. He banished PSY-Framelord Omega to banish Heritage from Neven’s hand, then Synchro Summoned another Omega! He Set one card to his back row.

Neven had Pot of Desires, True Draco Heritage, The Monarchs Erupt, True Draco Apocalypse, Master Peace, the True Dracoslayer, and drew another Apocalypse. In the Standby Phase, Miller used Omega to return his Mezuki to the Graveyard. Neven played Pot of Desires to draw Diagram and Amano-Iwato. He Normal Summoned Amano-Iwato, then Set Apocalypse. He played Diagram and tried to use its effect, and Miller flipped Magical Spring! Neven destroyed Apocalypse from his hand instead of the one on the field now, to add Heritage to his hand. He activated Heritage, Tributing Heritage and Apocalypse for Master Peace! Apocalypse destroyed Amaterasu, then Master Peace destroyed Curious in battle. Neven Set The Monarchs Erupt. In the End Phase Amano-Iwato returned and Master Peace destroyed Omega. Miller then banished Giant Rex, Solitaire, and Spiritmaster to bring Snow to the field! He Special Summoned Spiritmaster and Giant Rex, and turned Master Peace face-down with Snow.

Miller brought his banished Omega back to the field. He banished Mezuki to Special Summon another Mezuki. He used Mezuki and Giant Rex to play Missus Radiant, then banished Mezuki to Special Summon Uni-Zombie. He used Uni-Zombie and Snow to play Michael, the Arch-Lightsworn, and it banished Master Peace! He sent his monsters to attack and win the Duel, evening the score!

Duel 3

Neven played first this time, and began with a hand of Card of Demise, Pot of Duality, Skill Drain, Disciples of the True Dracophoenix, and The Monarchs Erupt. He Set everything and played Demise, drawing another of each of Disciples, Duality, and Erupt. He used Duality and put Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster in his hand. He played Disciples and Tributed it for Majesty Maiden, and Set the rest of his hand.

Miller Normal Summoned Snow, using its effect, and Neven used Maiden’s effect, then flipped The Monarchs Erupt! Maiden put Master Peace in his hand. Miller played Charge of the Light Brigade, sending Shiranui Solitaire, Shiranui Spiritmaster, and Mezuki to the Graveyard to get Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn to his hand. He banished Mezuki to Special Summon Solitaire, and Tributed it to get Uni-Zombie. Raigeki came next, destroying Majesty Maiden. Snow attacked directly, and in Main Phase 2 Miller Synchro Summoned Black Rose Dragon. He activated its effect, then Chained Snow to banish it and his whole Graveyard and some cards from his hand… That left Black Rose off the field and unaffected by The Monarchs Erupt! Neven lost everything, and Solitaire Special Summoned Spiritmaster.

Neven drew Dragonic Diagram! He played it and destroyed Master Peace to get Disciples of the True Dracophoenix, returning some cards to the Deck to draw The Monarchs Erupt. He Set it.

Miller Normal Summoned Raiden, sending Solitaire and Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju to the Graveyard. Raiden and Spiritmaster attacked directly. In Main Phase 2, He Synchro Summoned PSY-Framelord Omega.

Neven drew Anti-Spell Fragrance, and Omega put Mezuki back in Miller’s Graveyard. Neven used Diagram, and Miller Chained Omega to banish Anti-Spell Fragrance from Neven’s hand. Diagram resolved, destroying Disciples to get True Draco Heritage. He played Heritage, drawing True Draco Apocalypse, and Miller banished his entire Graveyard to get Snow to the field. That triggered his Spiritmaster to destroy Heritage. Neven Set Apocalypse, but Miller sent his monsters to finish him off on his next turn!

Thanks to a big play with Black Rose Dragon, Josiah Miller defeats YCS Champion Raphael Neven with Lightsworn Shiranui!
