Round 4 Feature Match: Jeff Jones vs. Feliciano Vega

February 17th, 2018

Michigan Duelist Jeff Jones won the UDS Championship in Orlando just a few months ago, giving him the coveted VIP status! As a VIP he gets two byes in the start of the tournament, along with special seating. He’s using the new Mekk-Knight monsters from Extreme Force, mixed with Invoked. It’s a great mix, since Mekk-Knights typically will never Normal Summon, so you can make use of Aleister the Invoker each turn. His opponent is Feliciano Vega, from Houston, TX. Vega is using Trickstars today, making this a matchup of one of the first VRAINS archetypes against one of the most recent. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Vega won the roll and chose to play first. He began with Terraforming to get Trickstar Light Stage, and used that to add Trickstar Candina to his hand. Candina came down and put Trickstar Lycoris in his hand. He bounced Candina back to Special Summon Lycoris and Set two to his back row.

Jones had Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Magical Meltdown, World Legacy’s Secret, 2 Mekk-Knight Blue Sky, and drew Aleister the Invoker. He Set Secret in the same zone as one of Vega’s back row cards, then Set Meltdown. He Special Summoned Mekk-Knight Blue Sky, but had its effect negated by Effect Veiler. Jones Normal Summoned Aleister, and Vega flipped his other back row card: Solemn Strike. Jones flipped up Magical Meltdown to add another Aleister to his hand. In the End Phase, Vega flipped up Scapegoat!

Vega used two of his Sheep Tokens to play Missus Radiant. He then used the remaining Tokens for two copies of Link Spider. He used a Spider and Missus for Decode Talker, then Normal Summoned Candina. Jones negated its effect with Ash Blossom. Vega banished five cards from his Extra Deck to play Eater of Millions! It attacked and banished Mekk-Knight Blue Sky, and Vega’s other monsters attacked to finish the Duel!

Duel 2

Jones started the second Duel. He drew Effect Veiler, Effect Veiler, and… Effect Veiler. He looked over, with a face that could only mean, “Are you seeing this?”. He also drew Spellbook of Secrets and Terraforming. He played Terraforming and had it negated by Vega’s Ash Blossom. He used Spellbook of Secrets, adding Spellbook Magician of Prophecy to his hand, and played into Vega’s Effect Veiler. Jones was stuck with a hand of his own Veilers, and passed.

Vega played Trickstar Candina, and Jones negated it with Veiler. Vega used Light Stage next, getting Lycoris. Candina destroyed Spellbook Magician of Prophecy, then Vega bounced Candina to Special Summon Lycoris and attack directly.

Jones drew Twin Twisters and Set it.

Vega played Candina and Jones negated it with Veiler again. Candina and Lycoris attacked directly, leaving Jones with just 500 Life Points. Vega bounced Candina for a second Lycoris, and attacked to take the Match!

Feliciano Vega takes a commanding victory over Jeff Jones with Trickstars!
