Round 5 Feature Match: Ousama Chamem vs. Alexander Juneja
Ousama Chamem, from Indianapolis, IN, is here today using a Stun Deck. Stun strategies rely on keeping an opponent locked down with cards such as Thunder King Rai-Oh, and they just got a huge boost thanks to the Extreme Force card Inspector Boarder! Chamem is also using another EXFO card, Power of the Guardians, to keep his monsters safe. His strategy seems to be effective so far, because he’s undefeated as we begin Round 5! His opponent is Alexander Juneja, from Santa Monica, CA. We’ve seen Juneja in the Top Cut of many YCS events and he’s back again with a Mekk-Knight Invoked Deck. It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Juneja won the die roll and chose to play second. Chamem began with Card of Demise, Pot of Duality, Artifact Sanctum, Eater of Millions, and Inspector Boarder. He Normal Summoned Inspector Boarder in his middle Main Monster Zone, then used Pot of Duality. He revealed Power of the Guardians, Pot of Desires, and Storming Mirror Force, adding Pot of Desires to his hand. He played it, drawing Artifact Moralltach and Unending Nightmare. He Set Nightmare, Sanctum, and Moralltach in his three middle Spell & Trap Card Zones.
Juneja Special Summoned Mekk-Knight Indigo Eclipse in the middle Main Monster Zone, and destroyed Inspector Boarder in battle! In Main Phase 2 he Normal Summoned Aleister the Invoker, getting Invocation. He played it, fusing Aleister with Inspector Boarder to play Invoked Mechaba, then used Invocation’s effect in the Graveyard. He Set one card in his back row, behind Indigo Eclipse. In the End Phase, Chamem flipped up Sanctum to Special Summon a Moralltach in his far right zone. He tried using its effect, and Juneja discarded Aleister to use Mechaba’s effect.
Chamem drew another Pot of Desires. He banished eleven cards from his Extra Deck to Special Summon Eater of Millions. It attacked Mechaba, using its effect. Juneja thought a moment, and negated it with Mechaba by discarding Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. In Main Phase 2, Chamem played Pot of Desires to draw Bottomless Trap Hole and Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo. He Set both in the same zone as Indigo Eclipse. In the End Phase, Juneja moved Indigo Eclipse to the far left zone, then flipped up Scapegoat!
Juneja used Indigo Eclipse and Mechaba to Link Summon Underclock Taker in his left Extra Monster Zone. He Normal Summoned Aleister and added Invocation to his hand. Aleister and a Sheep Token were used to play Ib the World Chalice Priestess below Underclock. Another Sheep Token was used to play Linkuriboh, then Linkuriboh and Underclock were used to play Ningirsu the World Chalice Warrior, in the middle zone. He activated its effect, but Chamem used Bottomless Trap Hole! Ib’s effect let it be destroyed instead, but Juneja didn’t draw a card this way. Juneja continued with Pot of Desires for two more cards, then used Mind Control to steal the Set Pachycephalo. Ningirsu sent both Pachycephalo and the Set Artifact Moralltach to the Graveyard. Ningirsu attacked directly. In Main Phase 2, Invocation banished Aleister and Moralltach from the Graveyards to Fusion Summon Invoked Mechaba, then Invocation went back into the Deck with its effect.
Chamem drew Moon Mirror Shield and Set it, then used Card of Demise – Juneja had Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Chamem passed with no other plays.
Juneja played Magical Meltdown. Chamem knew his Set Unending Nightmare and Moon Mirror Shield wouldn’t help protect his Life Points – he conceded the first Duel.
Duel 2
Chamem began with Card of Demise, Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo, Pot of Desires, Pot of Duality, and Drowning Mirror Force. He played Duality, revealing another Pachycephalo, Storming Mirror Force, and Moon Mirror Shield. He took the Shield, then used Pot of Desires to draw Raigeki and Mind Crush. He Normal Summoned Pachycephalo in the far right zone, then played Moon Mirror Shield in the far left. He put Drowning Mirror Force in his second zone and Mind Crush in the fourth. He was doing his best to make things difficult for Juneja’s Mekk-Knights.
Juneja moved to his Battle Phase immediately, and Chamem flipped Mind Crush to hit TWO copies of Evenly Matched! He also had Mekk-Knight Purple Nightfall, Dark Hole, Scapegoat, and Invocation. In Main Phase 2 Juneja played Dark Hole, and Chamem put Moon Mirror Shield on the bottom of his Deck. Juneja Set a card in the same zone as Chamem’s Drowning Mirror Force, then Special Summoned Purple Nightfall. He banished it to add Mekk-Knight Blue Sky to his hand, and Special Summoned it in Defense Position. Blue Sky’s effect put another Purple Nightfall in his hand.
Chamem drew Moon Mirror Shield. He used Raigeki to drestroy Blue Sky, then Set Moon Mirror Shield. He played Card of Demise to draw Pot of Duality, Storming Mirror Force, and Bottomless Trap Hole! He used Duality to get Pachycephalo! Juneja thought a moment but chose not to activate anything. Chamem Normal Summoned Pachycephalo in his fourth zone and equipped it with Moon Mirror Shield. He Set the rest of his hand in his back row.
Juneja returned Purple Nightfall to the field in his middle zone and passed.
Chamem drew Macro Cosmos. He sent Pachycephalo to attack, and Juneja banished Purple Nightfall to add Blue Sky to his hand. Pachycephalo attacked directly instead. Chamem Set Macro Cosmos.
Juneja returned Purple Nightfall to the field, and Chamem flipped Macro Cosmos. Juneja played Terraforming, getting Magical Meltdown, and played it to get Aleister the Invoker.
Chamem drew Storming Mirror Force. Juneja banished Purple Nightfall again, getting Blue Sky, and Pachycephalo attacked directly.
Juneja brought back Purple Nightfall and Set a card in his leftmost zone.
Chamem drew Bottomless Trap Hole. Purple Nightfall searched out Mekk-Knight Red Moon, and Pachycephalo attacked directly. Juneja was down to 4400 Life Points, while Chamem still had 7500.
Juneja Set two more in his back row.
Chamem drew Inspector Boarder. Pachycephalo attacked, finally destroying Purple Nightfall in battle thanks to Moon Mirror Shield. Chamem Set Inspector Boarder.
Juneja played Pot of Desires. He flipped up Mind Control to take the Set Inspector Boarder, and Set one to his back row. He just wanted to clear out some space in the back row, it seems. He discarded a Blue Sky in the End Phase due to having too many cards.
Chamem drew Card of Demise. He attacked with Pachycephalo, then flipped up Inspector Boarder in Main Phase 2. Juneja checked and saw just five minutes left in the round, and knew he probably wasn’t going to win this Duel. He conceded, looking to jump into the next Duel more quickly.
Duel 3
Juneja chose to play second. Chamem had Eater of Millions, Drowning Mirror Force, 2 Moon Mirror Shield, and Solemn Strike. He banished seven cards from his Extra Deck to play Eater of Millions in his fourth zone. He Set Solemn Strike in his fifth zone.
Juneja played Magical Meltdown to search for Aleister the Invoker. He played Aleister, and Chamem flipped Solemn Strike. Juneja played Pot of Desires, then Set a card in the same zone as Eater of Millions. He Special Summoned Mekk-Knight Purple Nightfall and banished it to get Mekk-Knight Blue Sky, just as the round timer ended. He Special Summoned Blue Sky in Defense Position, adding Mekk-Knight Indigo Eclipse to his hand.
Chamem drew Mistake. He equipped Eater of Millions with Moon Mirror Shield, then attacked to banish Blue Sky. He Set Mistake and Bottomless Trap Hole. In the End Phase, Juneja flipped Scapegoat!
Juneja returned Purple Nightfall to the field. He used a Sheep Token for Linkuriboh. He played another Magical Meltdown, and Chamem flipped Mistake. Juneja Chained to that with Purple Nightfall’s effect, adding Mekk-Knight Red Moon to his hand. He Special Summoned Blue Sky, and used it with a Sheep Token for Ib the World Chalice Priestess. He used the two remaining Sheep Tokens for Proxy Dragon, then Proxy and Linkuriboh for Ningirsu the World Chalice Warrior, allowing him to draw a card. He used Pot of Desires for two new cards. He activated Ningirsu’s effect, and Chained Twin Twisters to destroy Mistake and Moon Mirror Shield! Ningirsu sent the Twin Twisters to the Graveyard along with Chamem’s Drowning Mirror Force! Juneja Set a back row card in the same zone as Eater of Millions, allowing him to Special Summon Red Moon and destroy Eater of Millions! He flipped up the card he just Set: Invocation! He fused Aleister with Proxy out of his Graveyard for Invoked Mechaba! He moved to the Battle Phase, wiping out Chamem’s remaining Life Points!
Alexander Juneja takes the Duel and the Match with an explosive turn, using Mekk-Knight Invoked!
