Round 7 Feature Match: Brenden Beckmann vs. Denis Yan
Brenden Beckmann made the trip from Denver, Colorado and he’s running Magician Pendulum with Mythical Beasts! He’s facing off against Denis Yan who is also using Pendulum Magicians with Mythical Beasts! Both players are looking to keep a strong record. Who will keep their X-1 record? Let’s find out! It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Beckmann won the roll and elected to go first. He started with a hand of Oafdragon Magician, Time Pendulumgraph, Black Fang Magician, and 2 copies of Supreme King Gate Zero. He activated Oafdragon Magician and Black Fang Magician in the Pendulum Zones. He then Pendulum Summoned 2 copies of Supreme King Gate Zero from his hand. He then Link Summoned Heavymetalfoes Electrumite and used the effect to send Astrograph Sorcerer from his Deck to his Extra Deck. Heavymetalfoes Electrumite then destroyed Black Fang Magician to add Astrograph Sorcerer back to his hand. Astrograph Sorcerer’s effect to let it Special Summon itself and add a Magician from his Deck to his hand activated, and Heavymetalfoes Electrumite’s draw effect activated. Beckmann activated Black Fang Magician to the vacant Pendulum Zone, then Oaf picked up a Black Fang Magician from the Extra Deck. Black Fang Magician and Astrograph Sorcerer were used to Special Summon Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom and its effect was used to copy Heavymetalfoes Electrumite’s effect. That effect destroyed Oafdragon Magician and added Astrograph Sorcerer from the Extra Deck to the hand, then Astrograph Sorcerer was Summoned from the hand and added another Oafdragon Magician. Astrograph Sorcerer was activated as a Pendulum Spell and its effect destroyed itself to Special Summon Stargazer Magician from the Deck, then Stargazer and Astrograph Sorcerer were used to make another Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom and its effect copied Heavymetalfoes Electrumite’s effect. That effect destroyed Black Fang Magician to add back Astrograph Sorcerer which was then Special Summoned and used to search for Black Fang Magician. He then used both Dragons to Xyz Summon Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy. He then activated Black Fang Magician in the Pendulum Scale, Set Time Pendulumgraph, and passed.
Yan drew to 6 cards in hand. He activated Abyss Actor – Curtain Raiser and its effect was used to Special Summon it from the Pendulum Zone. He then Normal Summoned Purple Poison Magician. Going into the Battle Phase, Purple Poison Magician attacked Heavymetalfoes Electrumite and Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy used its effect to force the attack target to Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy. Purple Poison Magician’s effect activated in the Extra Deck to destroy Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy. Curtain Raiser then attacked Heavymetalfoes Electrumite for 400 damage. In Main Phase 2, Yan activated Pot of Desires, banishing 10 cards face-down to draw 2 more. He then activated Mythical Beast Bashilik in the Pendulum Zone to shuffle the Purple Poison Magician in the Extra back into the Deck to draw a card. He then activated Jackal King, destroying itself to Special Summon Mythical Beast Bashilik from the Extra Deck. Next, Mythical Beast Bashilik and Abyss Actor – Curtain Raiser were used to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite. Its effect was used to kick Astrograph Sorcerer from the Main Deck to the Extra Deck. Black Fang Magician was activated and Beckmann activated Time Pendulumgraph, destroying his own Black Fang Magician and Yan’s Heavymetalfoes Electrumite. Next, Yan activated Mythical Beast Master Cerberus in the vacant Pendulum Zone, then Yan Pendulum Summoned Astrograph Sorcerer from the Extra Deck and passed.
Beckmann drew Duelist Alliance for turn. He activated Oafdragon Magician then activated Duelist Alliance to search for Star Pendulumgraph and activated it. He then activated Time Pendulumgraph, destroying Oafdragon Magician and Yan’s Black Fang Magician. Star Pendulumgraph activated, searching for Purple Poison Magician. In the Battle Phase, he crashed Astrograph Sorcerers and in Main Phase 2, he activated Purple Poison Magician as a Pendulum Scale and passed.
Yan Normal Summoned Rescue Hamster, but Beckmann used Time Pendulumgraph, destroying his own Purple Poison Magician and Yan’s Rescue Hamster. Purple Poison Magician’s effect destroyed Yan’s Mythical Beast Master Cerberus and Star Pendulumgraph added Wisdom-Eye Magician from Deck to hand. Yan activated Harmonizing Magician and Purple Poison Magician as Pendulum Spells, then he Pendulum Summoned Astrograph Sorcerer to the Extra Monster Zone. Yan’s Astrograph Sorcerer attacked directly, but in the Damage Step, Yan used Purple Poison Magician to boost Astrograph Sorcerer’s ATK and Purple Poison Magician’s effect destroyed Time Pendulumgraph.
Beckmann drew Chronograph Sorcerer and put it in the Pendulum Zone. He used the effect to destroy it to place Timegazer Magician in the Pendulum Zone. He then activated Wisdom-Eye Magician to the other zone, and Beckmann used the effect to destroy itself to put Purple Poison Magician in that zone. Star Pendulumgraph’s effect was used to add Harmonizing Magician from Deck to hand and that was enough for Yan.
Duel 2
Yan elected for Beckmann to go first in Duel 2.
Beckmann started with Chronograph Sorcerer, Supreme King Gate Zero, Purple Poison Magician, Kumongous, the Sticky String Kaiju, and Astrograph Sorcerer. Chronograph Sorcerer was activated and its effect destroyed itself to Special Summon Timegazer Magician. On resolution, He activated Astrograph Sorcerer to Special Summon itself and add Chronograph Sorcerer from Deck to hand. Next, he used Timegazer Magician and Astrograph Sorcerer to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite. He then used the effect to kick Harmonizing Magician from the Deck to the Extra Deck. Then, Beckmann activated Supreme King Gate Zero as a Pendulum Scale, and then used Heavymetalfoes Electrumite to destroy Gate Zero to add Harmonizing Magician back to hand and draw a card with Heavymetalfoes Electrumite’s effect. Next, Purple Poison Magician and Chronograph Sorcerer were placed in the Pendulum Zones and Beckmann Pendulum Summoned Chronograph Sorcerer and Astrograph Sorcerer from the Extra Deck with Harmonizing Magician and Supreme King Gate Zero from the hand. Harmonizing Magician Special Summoned Black Fang Magician from the Deck. Next, the 2 Sorcerers were used for Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom. Then Venom copied Heavymetalfoes Electrumite, then Purple Poison Magician was destroyed to add Astrograph Sorcerer from the Extra Deck to the hand, then Astrograph Sorcerer was Summoned and searched for another Purple Poison Magician. Next, Astrograph Sorcerer and Black Fang Magician were used for a second Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom, copying the effect, destroying a Chronograph Sorcerer in the Pendulum Zone, and adding another Chronograph Sorcerer to hand. Next, both Fusion Monsters were used to Xyz Summon Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy. Supreme King Gate Zero and Astrograph Sorcerer were then used to Xyz Summon Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon, then Heavymetalfoes Electrumite and Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon were used to Link Summon Zefra Metaltron. Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon’s effect brought out Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon, then Purple Poison Magician was Normal Summoned and it and Harmonizing Magician were used to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Nightmare. He passed there.
Yan casually handed Beckmann a Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode by Tributing Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon, Evilswarm Nightmare and Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy.
Next, Yan played Allure of Darkness, drawing 2 cards and banishing Stargazer Magician. Next, Wisdom-Eye Magician and Black Fang Magician were activated, and Wisdom-Eye Magician destroyed itself for Oafdragon Magician. He then Pendulum Summoned Astrograph Sorcerer, Wisdom-Eye Magician, Harmonizing Magician and another Harmonizing Magician. One of the Harmonizing Magicians Special Summoned Purple Poison Magician from the Deck. Next, Harmonizing Magician and Wisdom-Eye Magician were used to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite. Next, Heavymetalfoes Electrumite’s effect sent Astrograph Sorcerer to the Extra Deck. Oafdragon Magician picked up Wisdom-Eye Magician. Heavymetalfoes Electrumite then destroyed Oafdragon Magician and picked up Astrograph Sorcerer, which was Special Summoned and searched for Oafdragon Magician. Two Astrograph Sorcerers were used to Xyz Summon Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon, then Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon and Heavymetalfoes Electrumite were used to Link Summon Decode Talker. Absolute Special Summoned Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon, and Beckmann elected to concede and go to Duel 3.
Duel 3
Siding took place quickly as both Duelists knew they were close to time in the round.
Beckmann elected to go first. He started off with Supreme King Gate Zero and Harmonizing Magician in the Pendulum Zones, then Pendulum Summoned Harmonizing Magician, using its effect to Special Summon Black Fang Magician. Yan activated Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries, revealing Heavymetalfoes Electrumite and Beckmann was forced to banish his 2 copies of it. Next, Beckmann used the two monsters to Xyz Summon Tornado Dragon. He Set Dimensional Barrier and Cosmic Cyclone and passed as time was called.
Yan went straight into the Battle Phase and activated Evenly Matched. Beckmann Chained Dimensional Barrier and called Pendulum. He kept Tornado Dragon on the field. In Main Phase 2, Yan activated Allure of Darkness, drawing 2 and banishing Harmonizing Magician. He Normal Summoned Abyss Actor – Curtain Raiser and passed.
Beckmann drew for turn and played Mythical Beast Master Cerberus in the Pendulum Zone. He used its effect to destroy it to add Mythical Beast Jackal King to hand.
Yan activated Pot of Desires, banishing 10 to draw 2. He then activated Astrograph Sorcerer as a Pendulum Scale, which prompted Beckmann to Chain Tornado Dragon’s effect to destroy it. Next, he activated Black Fang Magician and Astrograph Sorcerer in the Pendulum Zones. Then, Yan Pendulum Summoned Astrograph Sorcerer. He then used Astrograph Sorcerer and Abyss Actor – Curtain Raiser to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite and its effect sent Purple Poison Magician to the Extra Deck. Next, Heavymetalfoes Electrumite’s effect destroyed Black Fang Magician to add back Astrograph Sorcerer, which was Summoned and used to add Black Fang Magician. Yan drew a card to complete Heavymetalfoes Electrumite’s effect. He then Normal Summoned Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries and used it, Heavymetalfoes Electrumite and Astrograph Sorcerer to Link Summon Borreload Dragon, which attacked to steal Tornado Dragon.
Beckmann activated Mythical Beast Jackal King and its effect was activated, but Yan Chained Tornado Dragon to destroy Jackal King. That was enough to force a concession out of Beckmann!
Yan moves on with a 6-1 record!
