Nicholas Petzold, from Austin, TX, is playing a True Draco Metalfoes Deck! He can use Metalfoes Combination as a Tribute for his True Dracos, and the Metalfoes can destroy his True Draco Spell & Trap Cards to trigger their effects. Cool stuff! He’s up against Franklin Doungahnont, from Augusta, GA, who is playing a True Draco Windwitch build. True Draco have become one of the dominant Decks here in Atlanta, but we’re seeing a ton of variety in the different builds.

Duel 1

Doungahnont won the die roll and chose to play first. He led the Duel off with Terraforming, getting Dragonic Diagram, and activated it. He used it to destroy Disciples of the True Dracophoenix, adding True Draco Heritage to his hand. He Tributed True Draco Apocalypse for Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior. He then played True Draco Heritage to draw some cards, and Tributed Heritage to play Dreiath III, the True Dracocavalry General.

Petzold had a hand of Rescue Hamster, Metalfoes Combination, True Draco Heritage, True King’s Return, Dragonic Diagram, and Rescue Rabbit. He Set Combination, then played Dragonic Diagram. Doungahnont used Ignis Heat to get Disciples to his hand. Petzold’s Diagram destroyed Combination, and he added both Master Peace, the True Dracoslayer and Metalfoes Volflame to his hand. He Set True King’s Return and activated Heritage, Tributing both for Master Peace. His Tributed cards destroyed Doungahnont’s face-down Skill Drain and Dreiath, and Dreiath Special Summoned another Dreiath in Defense Position. Petzold played Rescue Rabbit, but had its effect negated by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Petzold played Volflame and had it destroy Diagram to Set Metalfoes Combination on the field. He used Master Peace, banishing Heritage to destroy Doungahnont’s Diagram, then sent Master Peace to destroy Ignis Heat in battle. He passed, with nothing in hand but the Hamster.

Doungahnont played Disciples, putting Ignis Heat, Heritage, and Apocalypse back in the Deck to draw a card. He Normal Summoned Windwitch – Glass Bell next, adding Windwitch – Ice Bell to his hand. He tuned Glass Bell to Dreiath, for D/D/D Gust High King Alexander. He Set one to his back row and attacked with Alexander, but Petzold destroyed it with Master Peace.

Petzold drew another Rescue Rabbit. Doungahnont flipped Anti-Spell Fragrance, and Master Peace destroyed it. Petzold flipped Metalfoes Combination, then destroyed it with Volflame. That let him Set another Combination on the field and add Metalfoes Goldriver to his hand. He played it in his Pendulum Zone, and Pendulum Summoned Rescue Rabbit. Its effect brought two Metalfoes Silverd to the field. Goldriver destroyed Volflame, putting Metalfoes Fusion on the field. He flipped it, fusing Silverd with Hamster for Metalfoes Mithrilium! He bounced Goldriver from his Pendulum Zone to his hand, then Normal Summoned it. He attacked directly with everything, taking the first Duel!

Duel 2

Doungahnont chose to play first. He Special Summoned Windwitch – Ice Bell, and Special Summoned Windwitch – Glass Bell. He added Windwitch – Snow Bell to his hand, and Special Summoned it. He used Ice Bell and Glass Bell for Windwitch – Winter Bell, then used Snow Bell with Winter Bell for Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon! He played Heritage and Set two face-down cards in his back row.

Petzold had a hand of Cosmic Cyclone, 2 Metalfoes Goldriver, Metalfoes Steelen, True King’s Return, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He had chosen not to use Ash Blossom to negate a Windwitch on the previous turn – what was he planning? He played Metalfoes Goldriver and Metalfoes Steelen in his Pendulum Zones, and Doungahnont flipped Cosmic Cyclone to banish Steelen. Petzold Set Cosmic Cyclone and True King’s Return.

Doungahnont attacked directly and Set another back row card.

Petzold drew Metalfoes Volflame. He flipped True King’s Return, destroying it with Goldriver to put Metalfoes Fusion on the field. He then used Metalfoes Fusion to combine Goldriver and Volflame in his hand into Metalfoes Mithrilium in Defense Position. He shuffled Metalfoes Fusion back into the Deck to draw Evenly Matched. He used Mithrilium, targeting Crystal Wing, and Doungahnont negated the effect to destroy Mithrilium. Mithrilium replaced itself with Goldriver in Defense Position. Petzold Set Evenly Matched.

Doungahnont played Dragonic Diagram, and Petzold banished it with Cosmic Cyclone. Crystal Wing destroyed Goldriver in battle. Petzold used Evenly Matched, and Doungahnont kept one of his back row cards and his Crystal Wing.

Petzold drew Metalfoes Combination. He Set it and Set Ash Blossom.

Doungahnont Set one more to his back row, and Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon destroyed Ash Blossom in battle.

Petzold drew Rescue Hamster. He flipped Combination and destroyed it with Goldriver, getting another Combination on the field and a Volflame in his hand. He played Volflame in his Pendulum Zone, and Pendulum Summoned Goldriver and Hamster. He Xyz Summoned Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir! That should keep him safe for a few turns.

Doungahnont played Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju, Tributing Bagooska! Then he Special Summoned another Gameciel to his own side! That was enough to even the score for Doungahnont!

Duel 3

Petzold chose to play second for the final Duel. Doungahnont activated Ice Bell in his hand, but Petzold used Ash Blossom. Doungahnont played Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, followed by True Draco Heritage, and Tribute Summoned Master Peace, the True Dracoslayer.

Petzold had Dragonic Diagram, another Ash Blossom, Master Peace, Rabbit, and Metalfoes Fusion in his hand. He played Diagram, destroying Fusion to get True King’s Return, then used Fusion to draw Metalfoes Silverd. He played Silverd in his Pendulum Zone, using it to destroy Diagram and get Metalfoes Combination on the field. He Set True King’s Return. Doungahnont used Master Peace to destroy Combination, and Petzold got Metalfoes Volflame. He played Volflame and Pendulum Summoned Rescue Rabbit, which then got two Goldriver to the field. He Link Summoned Heavymetalfoes Electrumite! Its effect put Astrograph Sorcerer face-up in the Extra Deck. Electrumite destroyed Silverd to get Astrograph to his hand, and he Special Summoned the Astrograph. Its effect put a new Silverd in his hand, and Electrumite let him draw Evenly Matched. He played the new Silverd, destroying Volflame to get Metalfoes Fusion. He fused Astrograph with Electrumite for Metalfoes Mithrilium, then used Fusion to draw another Silverd. Mithrilium returned Electrumite and another Metalfoes, pointlessly targeting the immune Master Peace. Petzold just wanted to put his cards back. Petzold used True King’s Return and Mithrilium to Tribute Summon Master Peace – Mithrilium Special Summoned Volflame, and True King’s Return destroyed Doungahnont’s Master Peace! Petzold attacked with Master Peace and Volflame, and Set Evenly Matched.

Doungahnont went to the Battle Phase, then used Evenly Matched. Petzold banished everything but his Master Peace. Doungahnont Set a monster and a back row card. Petzold used Master Peace to destroy the monster – Ice Bell. Doungahnont offered the handshake!
