Top 8 Feature Match: Alejandro Garcia Moreno vs. Esteban Vences Brito
Alejandro Garcia Moreno is a Mexican Duelist and the only two-time UDS Invitational winner! He’s looking for a third win, but he’ll have to get through Esteban Vences Brito, from Santa Ana, CA. Both Duelists are using Pendulum Magician Decks, but only one can move on to the Top 4.
Duel 1
Garcia began with Astrograph Sorcerer, Wisdom-Eye Magician, Harmonizing Magician, and two copies of Supreme King Gate Zero. He played Harmonizing and Wisdom-Eye in his Pendulum Zones, and used Wisdom-Eye’s effect to put Oafdragon Magician on the field. He Special Summoned Astrograph Sorcerer from his hand, adding another Wisdom-Eye Magician to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and Link Summoned Heavymetalfoes Electrumite, which put Chronograph Sorcerer in his Extra Deck. He used Electrumite to destroy Harmonizing Magician and add Astrograph Sorcerer to his hand – he Special Summoned the Astrograph and got another Harmonizing to his hand, then used Electrumite to draw a Chronograph. He played it in his Pendulum Zone, and Pendulum Summoned Chronograph and Wisdom-Eye from his Extra Deck, along with Harmonizing from his hand, which in turn Special Summoned Oafdragon from the Deck. He used Harmonizing and Wisdom-Eye to play another Electrumite, which placed an Astrograph Sorcerer in his Extra Deck. He destroyed Chronograph to get Astrograph to his hand, and Special Summoned it to add a new Chronograph to his hand. He used both of his Electrumites to play Zefra Metaltron, then stacked both Astrographs for Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon. He used Metaltron and Absolute to play Saryuja Skull Dread, and Absolute Special Summoned Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon in Defense Position. He used Chronograph and Oafdragon to play Norito the Moral Leader. His final board was Oafdragon in his Pendulum Zone, and Skull Dread linked to Vortex Dragon and Norito!
Vences began with Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm, adding Supreme King Gate Zero to his hand. He played Astrograph Sorcerer in his Pendulum Zone, and Garcia negated it and destroyed it with Norito. Vences played Gate Zero and another Astrograph in the Pendulum Zones, then played Wavering Eyes. Garcia responded with Vortex, and Vences responded to that with another Wavering Eyes! He destroyed all the Pendulums on the field, banished Vortex Dragon, and added Wisdom-Eye Magician to his hand. He played Oafdragon Magician and Black Fang Magician in his Pendulum Zones. Black Fang halved the ATK of Norito, and when Black Fang was destroyed Vences played Astrograph Sorcerer. He Link Summoned Electrumite and put another Astrograph in his Extra Deck. He played Wisdom-Eye Magician and used it to get another Black Fang to the field, and Electrumite let him draw a card. He used Electrumite to destroy Black Fang and get Astrograph Sorcerer to his hand, and he Special Summoned it, adding another Black Fang to his hand. He played it in the Pendulum Zone. He Pendulum Summoned two Black Fangs and Astrograph from his Extra Deck and Purple Poison Magician from his hand. (He was able to play an additional card thanks to Garcia’s Skull Dread pointing to his side!) He stacked his two Astrographs for Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon, then combined that with Electrumite for Zefra Metaltron. Absolute Special Summoned Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon, which bounced away Norito. He stacked a Black Fang and Purple Poison for Supreme King Dragon Dark Rebellion, using its effect to obliterate Saryuja Skull Dread and dish out 5300 damage! Garcia tried to Special Summon Chronograph Sorcerer from his hand, but it was negated by Vortex Dragon. Vences sent his remaining monsters to wipe out Garcia’s Life Points – all on the first turn of the Duel, despite Garcia’s impressive opening!
Duel 2
Garcia began this time with Darkwurm, Purple Poison, Black Fang, Gate Zero, and Timegazer Magician. He played Darkwurm, which added a Supreme King Gate Infinity to his hand. He played both Gates, and used Gate Zero’s effect – he was going for Instant Fusion to perform the Lyrilusc – Independent Nightingale + Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom combo, but Vences negated it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Garcia passed with no other moves.
Vences played Mythical Beast Master Cerberus and destroyed it to get Mythical Beast Jackal King in his hand. He played Jackal King and used it to Special Summon Master Cerberus from the Extra Deck. He played Stargazer Magician and Wisdom-Eye Magician, and used Wisdom-Eye to put Black Fang Magician in the Pendulum Zone. He removed four Spell Counters from Master Cerberus to banish Garcia’s Darkwurm, boosting Master Cerberus to 4600 ATK! He Pendulum Summoned Black Fang and Timegazer Magician, and attacked to wipe out Garcia’s Life Points on his first turn once again!
