Finals Feature Match: Kamal Crooks vs. Andres Espinosa

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS! Kamal Crooks and Andres Espinosa are both Duelists from Miami, Florida that competed this weekend with their Pendulum Magician Decks. Now, they’re the last 2 Duelists remaining in the tournament! They play at the same local OTS and Duel against one another all of the time – but the stakes have never been higher than they are right now. One of these Duelists will become the champion of YCS Memphis. The other will be eliminated. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One
Crooks started off Duel 1 by activating Chronograph Sorcerer in his Pendulum Zone and using its effect to Special Summon Timegazer Magician from his hand.

He Normal Summoned Purple Poison Magician next and combined both monsters to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite. He used its effect to send Astrograph Sorcerer from his Deck to his Extra Deck and then activated Supreme King Gate Zero in his Pendulum Zone. He used Electrumite’s effect to destroy Gate Zero and added Astrograph to his hand. He Special Summoned the Astrograph and used its effect to add a Gate Zero from his Deck to his hand. He drew a card with Electrumite’s effect and then activated Gate Zero and Black Fang Magician in his Pendulum Zones. He Pendulum Summoned Mythical Beast Jackal King from his hand, and Pendulum Summoned Purple Poison and Gate Zero from his Extra Deck Linked to Electrumite. He combined Purple Poison and Astrograph to Fusion Summon Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom and then copied Electrumite’s effect. He then used that effect to destroy the Gate Zero in his Pendulum Zone to add an Astrograph to his hand and Special Summoned Astrograph, using its effect to add Chronograph Sorcerer to his hand. He combined Astrograph and Gate Zero to Xyz Summon Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon, and then sent Absolute Dragon and Electrumite to the Graveyard to Link Summon Zefra Metaltron. He Special Summoned Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon to his field Linked to Metaltron by using Absolute Dragon’s effect and then passed his turn.

Espinosa opened up with Pot of Desires, Stargazer Magician, Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm, Astrograph Sorcerer, and Black Fang Magician. He drew Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit for his turn. He activated Astrograph in his Pendulum Zone and Crooks added 2 Spell Counters to his Jackal King. Espinosa used his Astrograph’s effect to Special Summon Stargazer Magician from his hand. He Normal Summoned Black Fang next and combined his 2 monsters to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite. He activated its effect, but Crooks removed 2 Spell Counters from his Jackal King to negate the effect and destroy the Electrumite. Espinosa activated Darkwurm in his Pendulum Zone next, giving Jackal King 2 more Spell Counters. He used Darkwurm’s effect place Gate Zero to his other Pendulum Zone. He activated Pot of Desires next, and Crooks negated it with Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon, prompting Espinosa to concede.

Duel Two

Espinosa opened up Duel 2 with Duelist Alliance, Harmonizing Magician, Astrograph Sorcerer, Black Fang Magician, and Timegazer Magician.

He activated Astrograph Sorcerer in his Pendulum Zone and then used Duelist Alliance to add Pendulum Call from his Deck to his hand. He activated Astrograph’s effect to Special Summon Stargazer Magician from his Main Deck and then Normal Summoned Timegazer Magician. Crooks discarded Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries from his hand, banishing all copies of Heavymetalfoes Electrumite from Espinosa’s Deck! Espinosa activated Pendulum Call by discarding Black Fang and used its effect to add Black Fang and Purple Poison from his Deck to his hand. He activated both cards in his Pendulum Zones and then Pendulum Summoned Astrograph from his Extra Deck and Harmonizing from his hand. He used the effect of Harmonizing Magician to Special Summon Purple Poison Magician and then combined Astrograph, Timegazer, and Stargazer to Link Summon Decode Talker. He combined Harmonizing and Purple Poison to Xyz Summon Tornado Dragon, Linked to Decode Talker. He passed his turn with no cards in his hand.

Crooks activated  Mythical Beast Master Cerberus and tried to use its effect, but Espinosa Chained the effect of Tornado Dragon to destroy it. He activated Foolish Burial next, sending Darkwurm from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned it with its effect, and then added a copy of Gate Zero from his Deck to his hand with its effect. He discarded another Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries from his hand to banish all copies of Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom from Espinosa’s Extra Deck. Next, he activated Astrograph in his Pendulum Zone and destroyed it to Special Summon Stargazer Magician. He used Stargazer and Darkwurm to Link Summon Electrumite. He used Electrumite’s effect to send Chronograph from his Main Deck to his Extra Deck. He activated another Master Cerberus in his Pendulum Zone and then used Electrumite’s effect to destroy the Master Cerberus and add a Chronograph Sorcerer from his Extra Deck to his hand. He drew a card with Electrumite’s effect and then activated Chronograph and Gate Zero in his Pendulum Zones. He Pendulum Summoned Darkwurm, Stargazer, and Astrograph from his Extra Deck, Linked to his own Electrumite and his opponent’s Decode Talker. He then destroyed the Chronograph in his Pendulum Zone to Special Summon Timegazer Magician from his Deck. Espinosa conceded, completely outmatched by Crooks’s field.
