Round 1 Feature Match: Bryan Bernardi vs. Michael Tinga

April 21st, 2018

Bryan Bernardi from Weirton, West Virginia is Dueling against Michael Tinga from Winston Salem, North Carolina! Tinga owns an Official Tournament Store, Card Stop Gaming, in his home town, and he’s here to show everyone what Duelists from his store can do! This is the first event in years that Tinga is competing in, and he’s putting his trust in the True Dracos to carry him through the tournament. But Bernardi is using an Infernoid Deck bolstered by Structure Deck: Lair of Darkness. Using the Lair of Darkness Field Spell Card, he can Tribute his opponent’s monsters with his Infernoids. Will that give him the edge in this Duel? We’re about to find out. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Bernardi opened up with Void Expansion, Void Imagination, Terraforming, Void Vanishment, and Called by the Grave.

He activated Terraforming to add Lair of Darkness to his hand. He activated Void Vanishment next and discarded Void Expansion to add Void Feast to his hand. He Set Void Feast and then activated Lair of Darkness. He Set Called by the Grave before passing.

Tinga drew a card and then Bernardi activated Void Feast! He sent Void Vanishment to the Graveyard and Special Summoned 2 copies of Infernoid Decatron and an Infernoid Sjette from his Deck. He used his Decatrons’ effects to send Infernoid Onuncu and Infernoid Devyaty to the Graveyard and imitate their effects. Tinga activated 2 copies of Terraforming to add 2 copies of Dragonic Diagram to his hand, and Bernardi declined to negate either copy. Next, Tinga activated a copy of Diagram, and Bernardi Tributed the Decatron copying Onuncu to negate it and banish it. Tinga activated another Diagram next, and then used Pot of Desires to banish the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down and draw 2 cards. Tinga Normal Summoned Amano-Iwato next, locking down all monster effects. Then, he activated True Draco Heritage and used his Diagram’s effect to destroy the Heritage and add Disciples of the True Dracophoenix to his hand. Heritage’s effect destroyed Bernardi’s face-down Called by the Grave. Next, he activated Disciples and used its effect to gain a Tribute Summon for the turn. He Tributed Disciples to Summon Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster, and used the effect of Disciples to destroy Lair of Darkness. Majesty Maiden attacked and destroyed Sjette, and then Amano-Iwato attacked and destroyed Decatron. In Main Phase 2, Tinga activated another copy of Dragonic Diagram by sending the one on his field to the Graveyard, and then used Card of Demise to draw 3 cards! He used his Diagram’s effect to destroy a Terraforming from his hand and get True Draco Heritage. Next, he activated Heritage and used its effect to draw a card. Tinga Set 3 cards to his back row and passed his turn. He discarded 0 cards with the effect of Card of Demise in his End Phase, and then returned Amano-Iwato to his hand.

Bernardi drew Infernoid Onuncu and then Tinga flipped Anti-Spell Frangrance. Bernardi banished 3 Infernoids from his Graveyard to Special Summon Devyaty from his Graveyard, and when its effect activated to try to clear the Spell & Trap Card Zone, Tinga flipped Skill Drain and gave up 1000 Life Points to negate its effect. Devyaty attacked Majesty Maiden, and Dragonic Diagram protected her from destruction. Tinga lost 300 Life Points in the battle.

Tinga used the effect of his Dragonic Diagram to destroy his Anti-Spell Fragrance and add True Draco Apocalypse to his hand. Next, he Set the Apocalypse and Summoned Amano-Iwato. He activated Card of Demise to draw 3 cards and then activated Pot of Duality to reveal Amano-Iwato, Anti-Spell Fragrance, and Rivalry of Warlords from the top of his Deck. He added the Amano-Iwato to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, he Set a card to his back row and discarded Amano-Iwato and Card of Demise in the End Phase. His on-field Amano stayed there due to the effect of Skill Drain.

Bernardi drew a card and then attacked Amano with Devyaty. Tinga flipped True Draco Apocalypse and used its effect to destroy his own True Draco Heritage and halve the ATK of Devyaty. Amano won the battle, and Devyaty was destroyed. Bernardi lost 450 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Bernardi Normal Summoned Lilith, Lady of Lament and Tributed it to reveal Void Trap Hole and 2 copies of Void Feast from his Deck. Tinga randomly chose to add Void Feast to Bernardi’s hand, and Bernardi Set it. He activated Void Imagination next, and then ended his turn.

Tinga drew a card and Bernardi activated Void Feast! He sent Void Imagination to the Graveyard and Special Summoned Infernoid Decatron and Infernoid Seitsemas from his Deck. Tinga used Dragonic Diagram’s effect to destroy Skill Drain and add another Majesty Maiden to his hand, and then Tributed Apocalypse to Summon Majesty Maiden. He used Apocalypse’s effect to destroy Decatron. Next, Tinga attacked Seitsemas with Majesty Maiden to destroy it, and attacked directly with Amano and the other Majesty Maiden to end the Duel!

Bryan Bernardi gets a strong start in the first Duel, but Michael Tinga’s Amano-Iwato eviscerated Bernardi’s opening turn rendering him unable to recover! Bernardi will be starting things off in Duel 2!

Duel Two

Bernardi opened up Duel 2 with Terraforming, Void Trap Hole, Infernoid Decatron, and 2 copies of Infernoid Onuncu. He activated Terraforming to add Lair of Darkness to his hand and then Summoned Decatron. He activated its effect to send Infernoid Seitsemas to his Graveyard and imitate its effect. Next, he activated Lair of Darkness and Set Void Trap Hole.

Tinga Set True Draco Apocalypse to his back row and then Tributed it to Summon Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior. He used the effect of Apocalypse to target Decatron for destruction, and Decatron’s effect was Chained by Tributing Ignis Heat. Ignis Heat was banished from the Duel, and Decatron was destroyed. Next, Tinga activated Dragonic Diagram. He activated True Draco Heritage next and destroyed it with Diagram to add another True Draco Heritage to his hand. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then activated Card of Demise to draw 3 cards. He flipped Heritage and then used its effect to draw 2 more cards. Then, he used his Heritage’s effect to gain a Tribute Summon, and Tributed Heritage for Majesty Maiden. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then activated another Diagram to replace the one on his field. He used Pot of Desires next, banishing the top 10 cards of his Deck to draw 2 cards.

He Set a card to his back row and then destroyed an Imperial Iron Wall from his hand with Diagram to add Disciples of the True Dracophoenix to his hand. He activated it and used its effect to shuffle 2 copies of Heritage and an Apocalypse from his Graveyard into his Deck and draw a card. He used the effect of his Disciples to gain an extra Tribute Summon, and then Tributed it to Summon Majesty Maiden. In the End Phase, he discarded Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King from his hand.

Bernardi drew a card, and then Tinga flipped Anti-Spell Fragrance and Imperial Iron Wall! Bernardi Set a card, unable to make any other plays.

Tinga activated the effect of his Diagram to destroy a Pot of Desires from his hand and grab Master Peace from his Deck. He Tributed Anti-Spell Fragrance and True Draco Apocalypse to Summon it, and then direct attacks from Master Peace and both copies of Majesty Maiden ended the Duel!

Michael Tinga takes a 2-0 victory in Round 1 with True Dracos!
