Round 2 Feature Match: Travis Tackett vs. Corey Rogers
Travis Tackett from Knoxville, Tennessee is Dueling against Corey Rogers from Columbus, Ohio in our Round 2 Feature Match! Tackett is using a Mermail Deck – but it’s not a typical Mermail Deck. He’s packing a bunch of “Nimble” monsters. Tackett uses 3 copies of Nimble Angler, a Nimble Beaver, and a Nimble Manta in his Deck. He can use the effect of his Angler if he discards it to play Mermail Abyssmegalo or Swap Frog, and then can swarm the field with WATER monsters that can be used to perform a Link Summon. Rogers is using a more traditional Pendulum Magician Deck in this weekend’s tournament. Which duelist will prevail? We’re about to find out. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Tackett chose to go first and opened up with Nimble Angler, Twin Twisters, Swap Frog, Atlantean Heavy Infantry, and Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince.
He discarded the Angler to Special Summon Swap Frog. He Special Summoned a Nimble Manta and Nimble Beaver to the field with his Angler’s effect and sent Ronintoadin to the Graveyard with Swap Frog’s effect. Next, he Normal Summoned Neptabyss and sent Atlantean Dragoons from his Deck to his Graveyard to add a copy of Atlantean Dragoons to his hand. He then used the effect of the Dragoons in his Graveyard to add Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord to his hand. He sent Nimble Beaver and Swap Frog to the Graveyard to Link Summon Mistar Boy. That left exactly 5 WATER monsters in his Graveyard, so Tackett Special Summoned Moulinglacia! He randomly discarded Timegazer Magician and Allure of Darkness from Rogers’s hand using Moulinglacia’s effect. Next, he combined Mistar Boy with Nimble Manta and Neptabyss to Link Summon Saryuja Skull Dread. He then used its effect to Special Summon Atlantean Heavy Infantry from his hand. He then banished Swap Frog from his Graveyard to Special Summon Ronintoadin and combined Atlantean Heavy Infantry with Ronintoadin to Special Summon Cat Shark in Defense Position. He Set Twin Twisters and passed his turn.
Rogers activated Chronograph Sorcerer in the Pendulum Zone, and then Tackett used the effect of Cat Shark! He detached Atlantean Heavy Infantry, and then used Atlantean Heavy Infantry’s effect to destroy the Chronograph Sorcerer. Next, Rogers played another Chronograph Sorcerer in the Pendulum Zone and activated Duelist Alliance to add Pendulum Call to his hand. He activated Pendulum Call by discarding Purple Poison Magician and added Purple Poison Magician and Harmonizing Magician to his hand. He activated the Purple Poison Magician in the other Pendulum Scale, and Tackett activated Twin Twisters by discarding a Dragoons to destroy the Chronograph Sorcerer and send it face-up to Rogers’s Extra Deck. Rogers then placed Harmonizing Magician in his Pendulum Zone and performed a Pendulum Summon! He Pendulum Summoned a Chronograph Sorcerer to his Extra Monster Zone and then attacked Skull Dread. He increased his Sorcerer’s ATK with the effect of the Purple Poison in his Pendulum Zone, and the Purple Poison wasn’t destroyed due to the effect of Pendulum Call. Chronograph Sorcerer won the battle, and Skull Dread was destroyed.
Tackett drew Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit and passed his turn, unable to battle through a monster that could be powered up by Purple Poison.
Rogers Normal Summoned Black Fang Magician and then combined his 2 monsters to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite. He activated its effect, and Tackett used Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy the Electrumite. Rogers sent Astrograph Sorcerer from his Deck to his Extra Deck with Electrumite’s effect after it was destroyed. He Pendulum Summoned Astrograph Sorcerer and then attacked Moulinglacia. He used the effect of Purple Poison to increase the ATK of the Sorcerer was by 1200, and then Purple Poison’s effect destroyed Cat Shark when the Purple Poison went down. Astrograph destroyed Moulinglacia in battle, and Tackett lost 1100 Life Points.
Tackett drew Atlanean Marskman and passed his turn.
Rogers drew Duelist Alliance and activated it! He added Time Pendulumgraph to his hand. He attacked directly with Astrograph, dropping Tackett down to 3800 Life Points. He Set the Time Pendulumgraph before passing.
Tackett drew Mermail Abyssgunde and Set a Marksman. Rogers flipped Time Pendulumgraph and used its effect to destroy his own Harmonizing Magician in his Pendulum Zone and the face-down Marksman.
Rogers drew a card and then attacked directly with Astrograph Sorcerer, dropping Tackett down to 1300 Life Points. Rogers activated Stargazer Magician in his Pendulum Zone before passing.
Tackett drew a Nimble Angler and conceded, unable to survive another turn with Time Pendulumgraph and Astrograph Sorcerer on the field.
Tackett gets a fantastic opening in Duel 1, but Rogers overcomes it with his Pendulum Magicians!
Duel Two
Tackett opened up Duel 2 with Dimensional Barrier, Atlantean Heavy Infantry, Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince, and Mermail Abyssteus. He Normal Summoned Neptabyss and activated its effect by sending Atlantean Dragoons to the Graveyard. He added a Dragoons to his hand with Neptabyss’s effect, and then used the effect of the Dragoons in his Graveyard to add Mermail Abyssmegalo to his hand. He discarded a Dragoons and Atlantean Heavy Infantry from his hand to Special Summon Abyssmegalo, and then used the effects of the Abyssmegalo and Dragoons to add Abyss-scale of the Mizuchi and Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord to his hand. Next, he combined Neptabyss and Abyssmegalo to Link Summon Mistar Boy. He then had exactly 5 WATER monsters in his Graveyard, so he Special Summoned Moulinglacia and used its effect to randomly discard Pendulum Call and Oafdragon Magician from Rogers’s hand. Tackett Set Dimensional Barrier before passing.
Rogers activated Purple Poison Magician in his Pendulum Zone and then Normal Summoned a Purple Poison Magician.
He activated Duelist Alliance next, adding Pendulum Call to his hand. He attacked Mistar Boy with Purple Poison and then used the effect of the Purple Poison in his Pendulum Zone to increase his attacking monster’s ATK by 1200. The Purple Poison in his Pendulum Zone was destroyed. Rogers tried to Special Summon Astrograph Sorcerer from his hand and use the effect of Purple Poison to destroy Moulinglacia in sequence, and Tackett Chained Dimensional Barrier. Astrograph remained in Rogers’s hand, but Moulinglacia was still destroyed by the fallen Purple Poison. Mistar Boy went down in battle, allowing Tackett to add Atlantean Dragoons from his Graveyard to his hand.
Tackett drew Twin Twisters and then revealed Abyssteus from his hand and Special Summoned it by discarding Dragoons. He used the effects of Abyssteus and Dragoons to add Deep Sea Diva and Mermail Abysspike to his hand. He Normal Summoned Deep Sea Diva and used its effect to Special Summon Neptabyss to his field. He used Neptabyss’s effect and sent a Marksman to his Graveyard to add Atlantean Heavy Infantry to his hand. He equipped Abyssteus with Abyss-scale of the Mizuchi and then Set a card to his back row. He sent Neptabyss to the Graveyard to Link Summon Linkuriboh. Forced to skip his Battle Phase due to the effect of the Moulinglacia that was destroyed on the previous turn, Tackett passed.
Rogers activated Astrograph Sorcerer in his Pendulum Zone and then Tackett Chained Twin Twisters! He discarded Atlantean Heavy Infantry to destroy the Astrograph Sorcerer. Next, Purple Poison attacked Linkuriboh, and Tackett allowed the Linkuriboh to be destroyed in battle. Rogers Set a card to his back row and passed.
Tackett drew Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju and then Tributed Purple Poison Magician to Summon it to Rogers’s field. He switched Deep Sea Diva into Defense Position and then attacked Gameciel with Abyssteus; but Rogers flipped Called by the Grave, forcing the Abyss-scale to negate it and sending the Abyss-scale to the Graveyard. Abyssteus was weakened as a result, and it lost the battle against Gameciel. Tackett sent the Abyssteus to the Graveyard and ended his turn.
Rogers activated Pendulum Call by discarding Chronograph Sorcerer and added Black Fang Magician and Purple Poison Magician to his hand. He activated both cards in his Pendulum Zones and then Pendulum Summoned Astrograph Sorcerer to his Extra Monster Zone. Gameciel attacked and destroyed Deep Sea Diva, and then Astrograph Sorcerer attacked directly. Rogers used the effect of the Purple Poison in his Pendulum Zone to increase the Sorcerer’s ATK, dropping Tackett down to 2400 Life Points.
Tackett drew Monster Reborn, but it wasn’t enough! He conceded and offered the handshake.
Corey Rogers is moving on with a 2-0 record!
