Our Round 4 Feature Match has 2 Duelists who are currently 4-0. Johnny Nguyen from Wichita, Kansas has Mekk-Knight Invoked, a strategy based around using Invoked Mechaba to great effect, negating the opponent’s key cards while using the Mekk-Knights to keep cards on the field and in the hand. His opponent is Aldo Andre Garcia Ruiz from Waukegen, Illinois. He has a Pendulum Magician Deck which is a popular pick in the tournament so far. Who gets to keep their undefeated record?  It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Garcia Ruiz won the roll and elected for Nguyen to go first. Nguyen started with a hand of Aleister the Invoker, Terraforming, Effect Veiler, Mekk-Knight Purple Nightfall and Magical Meltdown. He started with Terraforming, adding Magical Meltdown to his hand. He activated one of them and used its effect to add Aleister the Invoker from his Deck to his hand. He then Normal Summoned Aleister the Invoker and used its effect to add Invocation from his Deck to his hand. He passed there.

Garcia Ruiz drew for turn, activating Foolish Burial to send Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used Darkwurm’s effect to Special Summon it from the Graveyard then used its effect to add Supreme King Gate Zero from his Deck to his hand. Garcia Ruiz then activated Allure of Darkness, drawing 2 cards and banishing another Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm from his hand. Pot of Desires came down next. Garcia Ruiz banished the top 10 cards to draw 2 more. He then Normal Summoned Purple Poison Magician and sent the two monsters to the Extra Deck to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite. he activated the effect to send a monster from his Deck to the Extra Deck and Nguyen considered using his Effect Veiler but decided against it, letting Garcia Ruiz send Astrograph Sorcerer from his Deck to the Extra Deck. Garcia Ruiz then activated Supreme King Gate Zero as a Pendulum Spell, then used Heavymetalfoes Electrumite’s effect to destroy Supreme King Gate Zero and add Astrograph Sorcerer from his Extra Deck to his hand, which triggered Astrograph Sorcerer’s effect to Special Summon itself and add another copy of Supreme King Gate Zero from Deck to hand. That Supreme King Gate Zero was activated in the Pendulum Zone along with Black Fang Magician in the other Pendulum Zone. Garcia Ruiz then Pendulum Summoned Supreme King Gate Zero and Purple Poison Magician from the Extra Deck along with a Harmonizing Magician from his hand. Harmonizing Magician’s effect let Garcia Ruiz Special Summon Black Fang Magician from the Deck. Astrograph Sorcerer and Supreme King Gate Zero were used to Xyz Summon Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon. The Dragon and Heavymetalfoes Electrumite were used to Link Summon Zefra Metaltron. Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon’s effect Special Summoned Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon from the Extra Deck. Vortex’s effect sent Nguyen’s Aleister the Invoker back to his hand. Next, Harmonizing Magician and the Black Fang Magician it Special Summoned were used to Xyz Summon Tornado Dragon. All of the monsters attacked to end the first Duel.

Duel 2

Nguyen elected for Garcia Ruiz to go first. Garcia Ruiz started off with no actions and passed.

Nguyen drew Mind Control, adding to his hand of Droll & Lock Bird, Instant Fusion, Magical Meltdown, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Aleister the Invoker. Nguyen activated Magical Meltdown and used it to add Aleister the Invoker from his Deck to his hand. Nguyen Normal Summoned Aleister the Invoker and used its effect to add Invocation from his Deck to his hand. Aleister attacked for 1000.

Garcia Ruiz drew to 6 cards in hand. he activated Allure of Darkness, drawing 2 and banishing Xiangke Magician. Nguyen activated Droll & Lock Bird from his hand to prevent any further drawing or adding cards from Deck to hand this turn.

Nguyen drew Effect Veiler. He Normal Summoned a second Aleister the Invoker and used its effect to add another Invocation from his Deck to his hand. After some quick math, Nguyen activated Instant Fusion, going down to 7000 LP to Special Summon Thousand-Eyes Restrict from the Extra Deck. he used all 3 monsters to Link Summon Decode Talker. He then activated Invocation, banishing Aleister the Invoker from his Graveyard and sending Effect Veiler from his hand to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Invoked Mechaba. Nguyen then used Invocation’s Graveyard effect to shuffle it back into the Deck and add the banished Aleister back to his hand. Nguyen had his 2800 ATK Decode Talker attack directly, followed by Mechaba. He passed with a hand of Invocation, Mind Control, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Aleister the Invoker, ready to negate a Spell or Monster effect (Garcia Ruiz had no Set Spell/Traps, so negating Traps wasn’t an issue.)

Garcia Ruiz activated Allure of Darkness, drawing 2 and banishing Black Fang Magician. He then activated Chronograph Sorcerer in the Pendulum Zone. He used the effect, destroying it to Special Summon Timegazer Magician from his hand (ouch). Garcia Ruiz then Normal Summoned Purple Poison Magician and used the two monsters to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite. He didn’t activate the effect on its Link Summon. He then activated Supreme King Gate Zero and Black Fang Magician as Pendulum Spells. Nguyen hasn’t used Mechaba’s negation yet, but Garcia Ruiz is definitely aware that it’s there. Garcia Ruiz then Pendulum Summoned Harmonizing Magician from his hand, along with Chronograph Sorcerer, Purple Poison Magician and Timegazer Magician from the Extra Deck (Nguyen’s Decode Talker pointing up gave Garcia Ruiz and extra zone to Special Summon from the Extra Deck.) Garcia Ruiz activated Harmonizing Magician’s effect to Special Summon from the Deck but Nguyen used Mechaba’s effect, discarding Aleister the Invoker to negate Harmonizing Magician’s effect and banish the Spellcaster. Next, Garcia Ruiz used Timegazer Magician and Chronograph Sorcerer to Special Summon Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom from the Extra Deck. Garcia Ruiz then used Heavymetalfoes Electrumite’s effect to destroy Black Fang Magician and add it back to his hand. He then used Heavymetalfoes Electrumite’s other effect to draw a card. Garcia Ruiz then used Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom’s effect to copy Heavymetalfoes Electrumite and used the copy effect to destroy Supreme King Gate Zero and Chronograph Sorcerer, whose effect activated to Special Summon itself and Black Fang Magician from his hand. Black Fang Magician and Purple Poison Magician were used to Xyz Summon Supreme King Dragon Dark Rebellion. He had the Supreme King Dragon Dark Rebellion attack Invoked and used its effect on Mechaba, forcing its ATK to 0 with Dark Rebellion gaining the lost 2500 ATK. Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom attacked the 2300 ATK Decode Talker and Heavymetalfoes Electrumite attacked directly and Nguyen extended the handshake!
