Round 9 Feature Match: Jarred Charles Randolph vs. Dablessin Jaquise Wilson
Welcome to Round 9! We have this round plus one more before the cut to the Top 32 playoff. Winning out is important for everyone left in the tournament. At table 17, we have Jarred Charles Randolph from Delaware with a True King Dinosaur Deck facing off against Dablessin Wilson, who took 2nd place at YCS Atlanta this year, from Waukegan, Illinois. Wilson has a Pendulum Magician Deck, a popular pick this weekend but Randolph couldn’t have gotten this far without facing a Pendulum Magician Deck, so he’s prepared for the matchup. It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Randolph won the roll and elected to go first. He started with Dragonic Diagram, and used the effect destroying Babycerasaurus to add True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer to his hand. He then activated the effect of baby to Special Summon Souleating Oviraptor from his Deck. He used Souleating Oviraptor’s effect to add Petiteranodon from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Petiteranodon and used the effect to destroy Petiteranodon and Special Summon Babycerasaurus from the Graveyard. Petiteranodon’s effect Special Summoned Miscellaneousaurus from the Deck. Randolph activated True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher’s effect from the hand, destroying Babycerasaurus from the field and another True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher from his hand. Babycerasaurus’s effect activated to Special Summon Jurrac Aeolo from the Deck. Jurrac Aeolo, Souleating Oviraptor and Miscellaneousaurus were used to Synchro Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier! Its effect banished a Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm from Wilson’s hand. Next, Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier and True King Agnimazud, the Vanisher were used to Xyz Summon True King of all Calamities. He passed with a hand of PSY-Framegear Gamma and True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer.
In Wilson’s Draw Phase, Randolph activated True King of All Calamities and declared DARK. He activated Allure of Darkness to draw 2 cards and banished Mythical Beast Jackal King. Next, he activated Chronograph Sorcerer as a Pendulum Spell, then used the effect to destroy it to Special Summon Timegazer Magician from the Deck in Defense Position. Next, he Normal Summoned Purple Poison Magician and used both monsters to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite. He then activated Oafdragon Magician and Black Fang Magician as Pendulum Spells then used Oafdragon Magician’s effect to add back Purple Poison Magician from his Extra Deck back to his hand. Next, Wilson Pendulum Summoned Chronograph Sorcerer and Timegazer Magician from the Extra Deck, then Set a card to the back and passed.
Randolph drew Fossil Dig for turn. He activated it and added Babycerasaurus from his Deck to his hand. He activated Dragonic Diagram’s effect next, destroying the Babycerasaurus in his hand to add True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer to his hand. Babycerasaurus’s effect let Randolph Special Summon another Souleating Oviraptor from his Deck, and its effect let him add Ultimate Conductor Tyranno from his Deck to his hand. True King of All Calamities’s effect was used next declaring WATER, then Randolph used True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer’s effect in his hand to destroy Wilson’s Chronograph Sorcerer and Timegazer Magician to Special Summon True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer and because both monsters were WATER thanks to True King of All Calamities, Randolph also got to banish Wilson’s Oafdragon Magician and the face-down Spell/Trap which we didn’t get to see because Wilson conceded the game at this point.
Duel 2
Wilson elected to go first. He started with Chronograph Sorcerer in the Pendulum Zone and used the effect to destroy it and Special Summon Timegazer Magician from his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm and used the effect to add Supreme King Gate Zero to his hand. After the chain resolved, Randolph activated Droll & Lock Bird to prevent further searching and drawing this turn. Next, Wilson used both monsters to Link Summon Heavymetalfoes Electrumite whose effect kicked Purple Poison Magician from the Deck to the Extra Deck. He then placed Supreme King Gate Zero in the Pendulum Zone and used the effect of Heavymetalfoes Electrumite to destroy Supreme King Gate Zero and add Chronograph Sorcerer to his hand. He then Pendulum Summoned Purple Poison Magician and Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm from the Extra Deck and used the two monsters to Xyz Summon Abyss Dweller.
Randolph drew Babycerasaurus to add to his hand of Fossil Dig, Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Megalosmasher X. Wilson used Abyss Dweller in the Draw Phase to prevent Randolph from activating Graveyard effects this turn. Randolph activated Fossil Dig to add Souleating Oviraptor from his Deck to his hand, which prompted Wilson to activate Droll & Lock Bird to stop further searching and drawing this turn. He Normal Summoned Megalosmasher X and attacked Wilson’s Heavymetalfoes Electrumite, destroying it in battle.
Wilson Pendulum Summoned Supreme King Gate Zero from the Extra Deck and Chronograph Sorcerer from his hand. He then used the 2 monsters to Pendulum Summon another Heavymetalfoes Electrumite and he tried to use the effect to kick a monster from the Deck to the Extra Deck but Randolph chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy Heavymetalfoes Electrumite. Wilson sent Mythical Beast Jackal King to resolve Heavymetalfoes Electrumite’s effect.
Randolph drew Typhoon. Wilson activated Abyss Dweller again to prevent Graveyard effects from activating this turn. Randolph Normal Summoned Souleating Oviraptor and used its effect to add Souleating Oviraptor from his Deck to his hand. Next, Souleating Oviraptor attacked and destroyed Wilson’s Abyss Dweller and Megalosmasher X attacked directly for 2000, leaving 5800 LP. In Main Phase 2, Randolph used his 2 monsters to Xyz Summon Tornado Dragon and used the effect to destroy Wilson’s Chronograph Sorcerer. Randolph Set Typhoon and passed.
Wilson drew to one card in hand having only a Supreme King Gate Zero in a Pendulum Zone and a bunch of monsters in the Extra Deck with no way to currently come out to the field. He revealed his draw of Instant Fusion and extended the handshake!
Jarred Randolph moves on to the final round of Swiss with a 7-2 record, his hopes of making Top 32 still alive!
