YCS Memphis First-Timers!

April 21st, 2018

The Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series circuit is in Memphis, Tennessee for the first time ever! But that’s not the only first of the weekend – lots of the Duelists competing today are participating in their first Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series event! Take a look at some of these YCS first-timers!

20-year-old Rob Donatucca from Nashville, Tennessee is competing in his first YCS this weekend! He has been Dueling for over a decade, but never competed at the YCS level, or even the Regional level! He usually frequents his local tournaments at The Next Level Games to practice his Dueling there, but now he’s taking his game to the next level! “There’s a lot of people here. Way more than I expected,” Rob said. Rob is using a Mekk-Knight Invoked Deck this weekend. Here’s a picture of him holding up Mekk-Knight Purple Nightfall from his Deck!

25-year-old Kyle Odum from Nashville, Tennessee played the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME when it was first released, and got back into it earlier last year. Now, he’s competing in his first-ever Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series event! He practices Dueling at his OTS local, The Next Level Games, and now is competing in his first YCS event with his Paleozoic Frog Deck! He’s impressed by the number of Duelists that came to Memphis for the tournament. “When we go to locals, it’s like 20 people,” he said. The attendance here blows that number out of the water. Here’s Kyle holding up a Topologic Bomber Dragon from his Extra Deck!

26-year-old Jacob Marina from Nashville, Tennesse also Duels at The Next Level Games, and he came to this event with Kyle Odum. He competed in a Regional event many years ago, but never participated in a YCS! This event is a lot bigger than any he has ever competed in. He’s using a Gouki Deck this weekend, featuring his favorite Gouki monster: Gouki Suprex!

28-year-old Fernando M. Aguilar from Lexington, Kentucky has competed in many Regionals and locals, but never participated in a YCS event! He took a six-hour drive to compete in his first-ever YCS this weekend! “It’s exciting to be here,” he said. “All of the good players and famous YouTubers are here. And of course, there’s the Konami crew and judges. It’s exciting.” Here’s Fernando holding up his favorite card from his Pendulum Magician Deck: Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm!
