North America WCQ Round 5 Feature Match: Rami Ogando vs. Noah Reid Greene

June 30th, 2018

We’re in Round 5 and we have an Altergeist Duelist who’s undefeated! Rami Ogando from Rhode Island got his invite from a Regional Qualifier from the Catskills, NY and he’s facing off against the 2015 North American WCQ Champion Noah Greene from Atlanta, Georgia who got his invite this year from topping YCS Atlanta. Just like in 2015, Greene has a Burning Abyss Deck for the WCQ, with this one concentrating on almost all monsters with the only Spells in the Deck are Sekka’s Light, a powerful Spell that lets you draw 2 cards but prevents you from activating any other Spell and Trap cards with different names after it resolves. They’re both undefeated but only one of them will keep that streak intact. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Greene won the roll and elected to go first. He started off by Special Summoning Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss then Normal Summoned Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. He then Xyz Summoned Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and Ogando activated Infinite Impermanence from his hand to negate Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss’s effect. He then activated Altergeist Multifaker’s effect to Special Summon itself from the hand and then he tried to use the effect to Special Summon another one from the Deck but Greene negated it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Greene sent 3 cards to the Graveyard for Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss’s effect and hit a Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss whose effect Special Summoned a Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the Deck. He used Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss to Xyz Summon Underclock Taker and Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss’s effect Special Summoned Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss from the Graveyard. Greene discarded a card to turn Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss into Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal. He then Special Summoned Orbital Hydralander from his hand. He also added Tour Guide From the Underworld with Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss’s effect.

Ogando drew a card to go up to 4. He had 2 copies of Personal Spoofing, Altergeist Protocol, Solemn Strike. He Set Solemn Strike and both Spoofings. In the End Phase, Greene used Orbital Hydralander’s effect sending 3 cards to the Graveyard, one of them being a second copy of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. He chained Fairy Tail – Snow’s effect from the Graveyard banishing 7 cards to keep his Graveyard clear of duplicates. In a new chain, Greene used Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss’s effect to add Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss back to hand and Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss’s effect to Special Summon Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his hand. (You may activate Libic’s effect if you have something in your hand you could Special Summon with its effect. So Greene must have had another Burning Abyss monster in his hand in order for this Chain to be legal.)

In Greene’s turn he used the effect of his in-grave Sekka’s Light to return Droll & Lock Bird from his hand back to the Deck to draw a card. He used Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and Underclock Taker to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. He used its effect to destroy Ogando’s Set Personal Spoofing which he chained, sending Altergeist Protocol back to the Deck. Greene chained Orbital Hydralander, sending 3 cards but hitting two copies of Crane Crane, so the effect didn’t destroy a card. Ogando added Altergeist Multifaker from his Deck to his hand which was Special Summoned in a new chain. Its effect Special Summoned Altergeist Meluseek from the Deck. Greene continued his turn by using Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and Knightmare Phoenix to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn and its effect discarded another Orbital Hydralander to send Ogando’s last Set to the Deck which was Chained: Personal Spoofing. Ogando returned Altergeist Multifaker from the field to add Altergeist Kunquery from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and used her effect to Special Summon Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the Deck.

He then used Fairy Tail – Snow and Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus whose effect discarded Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to destroy Ogando’s Altergeist Meluseek and that was enough to force a concession.

Duel 2

Ogando elected to go first. He started off with a hand of Mind Crush, Solemn Strike, Altergeist Meluseek, Personal Spoofing and Altergeist Kunquery. He Set all of the Trap Cards and passed.

Greene revealed Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to Special Summon it but Ogando used Mind Crush to force Greene to discard it. Greene revealed his hand of all Burning Abyss monsters and an Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Ogando activated Altergeist Multifaker to Special Summon it and used the effect to Special Summon another Altergeist from the Deck but Greene chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate the effect and Ogando negated it with Solemn Strike! Multifaker’s effect resolved to Special Summon Altergeist Silquitous from the Deck. Greene then Special Summoned Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss then Greene Normal Summoned Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss attacked Ogando’s Altergeist Silquitous but Ogando used Altergeist Kunquery’s effect from his hand to Special Summon it and negate the attack. Calcab destroyed Altergeist Multifaker. In Main Phase 2, Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss were used to Xyz Summon Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss. Ogando activated Altergeist Silquitous bouncing Altergeist Kunquery to bounce Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, Greene chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit and Ogando chained the Set Personal Spoofing to shuffle Altergeist Silquitous back to the Deck to add Altergeist Marionetter from his Deck to his hand. In a new Chain, Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss’s brought back Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and it and the monster left on the field made Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss again. Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss’s effect sent a Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss whose effect Special Summoned Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. Greene passed.

Ogando drew Rivalry of Warlords for turn. He Normal Summoned Altergeist Marionetter whose effect Set Altergeist Protocol from the Deck. He then used Altergeist Marionetter’s effect to send itself to the Graveyard to Special Summon Altergeist Multifaker from the Graveyard. Multifaker’s effect then Special Summoned Altergeist Silquitous from the Deck. Altergeist Silquitous’s effect bounced Multifaker and Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss back to the hand and Extra Deck. The sent Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss banished Altergeist Silquitous. Ogando Set Rivalry of Warlords and brought back Altergeist Silquitous to the field in the End Phase.

Greene drew for turn and conceded here. We’re going to a third and final Duel!

Duel 3

Greene elected to go first. He started with Tour Guide From the Underworld whose effect was negated by Ogando’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Greene Set a card to the back and passed.

Ogando went straight to the Battle Phase and activated Evenly Matched. Greene choose to keep the Set Spell/Trap, banishing Tour Guide From the Underworld face-down. Ogando Set 2 cards to the back and passed.

Greene drew and passed.

Ogando Normal Summoned Altergeist Silquitous and attacked directly. He Set one more to the back and passed.

Greene Set a monster and passed.

Ogando Normal Summoned Altergeist Marionetter. He used the effect to Set Altergeist Protocol from the Deck giving him a total of 4 Set Spell/Traps. He then activated Altergeist Silquitous, bouncing Altergeist Marionetter back to his hand to send Greene’s Set monster back to his hand but Greene chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy Altergeist Silquitous. In a new chain, Ogando activated Altergeist Manifestation to bring back Altergeist Silquitous and Greene chained Twin Twisters, discarding Orbital Hydralander and targeting Altergeist Manifestation and Ogando’s Set Mind Crush. The chain resolved and Altergeist Silquitous was Special Summoned back to the field. Altergeist Silquitous attacked directly.

Greene drew and passed.

Ogando Normal Summoned Altergeist Marionetter and used the effect to Set Altergeist Manifestation from the Deck. He then activated Altergeist Protocol then Special Summoned Altergeist Multifaker from the hand in a new chain. Multifaker Special Summoned Altergeist Meluseek from the Deck. Altergeist Meluseek and Altergeist Multifaker were used to Link Summon Altergeist Hexstia. Altergeist Meluseek’s effect let Ogando add Altergeist Multifaker from his Deck to his hand. All three monsters attacked directly leaving Greene at 900 LP.

Greene banished an Orbital Hydralander and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to Special Summon Black Luster Solider – Envoy of the Beginning! He tried to attack Altergeist Marionetter but Ogando activated Altergeist Manifestation to Special Summon Altergeist Multifaker from the Graveyard. He used Multifaker’s effect to Special Summon Altergeist Meluseek from the Deck in Defense Position. Greene continued the attack on Altergeist Meluseek but Greene activated Altergeist Silquitous bouncing Altergeist Multifaker to his hand to try and bounce Black Luster Solider – Envoy of the Beginning but Greene chained Sauravis, the Ancient and Ascended! Ogando chained Altergeist Protocol sending Altergeist Meluseek back to the Deck to negate Sauravis but Greene chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to negate Altergeist Protocol. But since Ogando still has access to Altergeist Silquitous and could clear away Black Luster Solider – Envoy of the Beginning on the next turn, Greene extended the handshake!

Ogando moves on with an undefeated record with Altergeists!
