Welcome to Round 3 of the South American WCQ! For this Feature Match, we have two VIP Duelists up against each other! We’ve got Chilean YCS Champion Hector Perez, using a combination Sky Striker Mekk-Knight Trickstar Deck! He’s facingTrinidad & Tobago National Champion Justin Manganoo, using a pure Sky Striker Deck.
Duel 1
Manganoo began with Terraforming to get Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero, then Upstart Goblin. He played Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones, and immediately Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari to get Hornet Drones back to his hand. He played Area Zero and Set three cards. Area Zero added Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to his hand, sending one of his Set Sky Striker spells to the Graveyard. He Set another card in his back row, then Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. In the End Phase, Shizuku added Hornet Drones to his hand.
Perez started with a hand of Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones, Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners!, Trickstar Lilybell, Mekk-Knight Indigo Eclipse, Mekk-Knight Blue Sky, and drew Droll & Lock Bird. He played Hornet Drones into Kagari, adding Hornet Drones back to his hand. He played it again, then used the Token with Kagari to play Knightmare Phoenix. He discarded Lilybell for Phoenix’s effect, and Manganoo negated it with Widow Anchor. Perez Set Afterburners in the same column as Manganoo’s Shizuku, then Special Summoned Indigo Eclipse. He moved it to his far right zone, which allowed him to Special Summon Blue Sky next. He used its effect to add Mekk-Knight Purple Nightfall to his hand – Manganoo flipped Mind Crush to discard it! Perez sent Indigo Eclipse to attack Shizuku, but Manganoo took control of it with Widow Anchor. Blue Sky attacked Shizuku next, and both monsters were destroyed.
Manganoo used Pot of Desires to draw two new cards, and Perez activated Droll & Lock Bird. Manganoo played Hornet Drones, then Kagari to get back Widow Anchor. He played it to steal Indigo Eclipse, and it destroyed Knightmare Phoenix in battle. Kagari attacked directly, leaving Perez with 2700 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, he used Kagari and Indigo Eclipse to play his own Knightmare Phoenix, discarding an Area Zero to destroy Perez’s Set Afterburners.
Perez drew Terraforming. He played it, and it was negated by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Perez had no cards remaining.
Managanoo played Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole, then Reinforcement of the Army for Sky Striker Ace – Raye. That gave him enough damage to take the first Duel!
Duel 2
Perez began with 2 Terraforming, Trickstar Light Stage, Droll & Lock Bird, and Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!. He played Light Stage, adding Trickstar Candina to his hand. He then played Terraforming to get another Light Stage, which he played to get Trickstar Lycoris. The second Terraforming searched out the third Light Stage, and he played it to get another Lycoris. That play sequence put three spells in his Graveyard already! He played Engage to get Hornet Drones, and drew Called by the Grave. Hornet Drones came next, and he Link Summoned Kagari, adding Engage back to his hand. He Normal Summoned Candina, getting Trickstar Reincarnation. Kagari was used to play Shizuku. He Special Summoned both copies of Lycoris, bouncing his Candina to his hand. He Set Reincarnation and Called by the Grave, and in the End Phase Shizuku added another Engage to his hand.
Manganoo Set four cards to his back row. He played Widow Anchor to negate one copy of Lycoris, then played Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves! to destroy Called by the Grave. He Normal Summoned Raye, and Link Summoned Kagari to get Jamming Waves back. He played it once again, destroying Trickstar Reincarnation. Now, he flipped up Engage to add Afterburners to his hand. Perez used Droll & Lock Bird to prevent any further searching for the turn. Manganoo played Afterburners to destroy Shizuku, then had Kagari destroy a Lycoris in battle. In Main Phase 2, Manganoo Link Summoned Shizuku, but couldn’t use the effect.
Perez drew Droll & Lock Bird. He played Candina, getting Trickstar Reincarnation to his hand. He combined Candina with Lycoris to play Knightmare Phoenix, discarding Reincarnation to destroy Manganoo’s Set Pot of Desires. Perez played Engage to add Hornet Drones to his hand and draw Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. His second Engage came down, getting Hornet Drones and drawing Called by the Grave. He played the Drones, using the Token with Knightmare Phoenix for Knightmare Unicorn! It discarded a Hornet Drones to shuffle away Manganoo’s last Set card. Perez banished both copies of Reincarnation from his Graveyard to Special Summon both of his Lycoris. He activated Called by the Grave to banish Manganoo’s only copy of Raye in his Graveyard, leaving him with absolutely nothing but his Shizuku on the field – it wouldn’t be enough to hold off Perez’s monsters!
Hector Perez evens the score! It all comes down to this final Duel.
