Top 4 Feature Match: Calvin Tam Chow vs. Manav Dawar
We’re now in the Top 4! Calvin Chow ended Swiss in 15th place with a Sky Striker Trickstar Deck while his opponent, Manav Dawar came in 19th place with a pure Sky Striker Deck. A win here will guarantee the Duelist a copy of the YCS Prize Card Number 89: Diablosis the Mind Hacker! The other will have a second chance for a Super Rare version of the Prize Card in the 3rd place playoff. Who’s going to the finals? It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
Chow won the roll and elected to go first. He started with Trickstar Light Stage, Pot of Desires, 2 copies of Terraforming and Sky Striker – Mecha Hornet Drones. He activated one of the Terraformings to add Trickstar Light Stage to his hand. He activated the second one to add another Trickstar Light Stage from his Deck to his hand. He activated one of his Light Stages and used the effect to add Trickstar Lycoris from his Deck to his hand. He then activated Pot of Desires, banishing the top 10 cards of his Deck to draw Trickstar Candina and Trickstar Reincarnation. He activated Sky Striker – Mecha Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Token which was used to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari whose effect let Chow add Hornet Drones back to his hand. He then Normal Summoned Candina and used its effect to add another Trickstar Reincarnation from his Deck to his hand. Chow then activated the second Trickstar Light Stage to add Trickstar Lycoris from his Deck to his hand. He then used both Trickstar Lycoris’s effects to Special Summon them and return Trickstar Candina back to his hand. He then swapped Sky Striker Ace – Kagari to Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He Set both copies of Trickstar Reincarnation and in the End Phase he used Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku’s effect to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand.
Dawar drew for turn and took 800 damage from the Trickstars. Chow activated one copy of Trickstar Reincarnation and Dawar Chained Infinite Impermanence from his hand to negate one of Chow’s Trickstar Lycoris’s effects. Dawar banished the other 5 cards and drew 5 more, taking 1200 damage in the process. Dawar then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to add Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero to his hand. He Set 2 cards to his back row, then a third, then activated Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero. He activated the effect, revealing 2 copies of Sky Striker Ace – Raye and another Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!. He chose to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, shuffling the Sky Striker Ace – Rayes back to the Deck. Dawar was down to 5200 LP after adding the Spell to his hand. Chow activated the second Trickstar Reincarnation, forcing Dawar to banish Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor and taking another 600 damage, going down to 4600 LP. Dawar then activated Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole. He used Multirole’s effect, sending the Field Spell away, then the Field Spell’s effect let Dawar Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Raye from the Deck. He then Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari and used the effect to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Graveyard to his hand, taking another 400 damage. He activated Engage and added Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! from his Deck to his hand. he activated Afterburners, destroying Chow’s Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku and Trickstar Light Stage. Sky Striker Ace – Kagari attacked and destroyed Chow’s Trickstar Lycoris by battle. In Main Phase 2, Dawar used Kagari to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. In the End Phase, he used Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to Set Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! and Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from the Graveyard to his field. Dawar then used Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku’s effect to add Jamming Waves from his Deck to his hand, but Chow Chained the Graveyard effect of Trickstar Reincarnation to Special Summon the other Trickstar Lycoris and add on more damage.
Chow activated another Trickstar Light Stage to add Trickstar Candina from his Deck to his hand. Trickstar Light Stage froze Dawar’s Set card closest to his Deck. He then Normal Summoned Trickstar Candina and tried to use its effect but Dawar Chained Infinite Impermanence to negate Candina’s effect. He used Trickstar Candina and a Trickstar Lycoris to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix to the zone that Dawar’s Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku was pointing to. He used its effect, discarding Trickstar Candina targeting Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole but Dawar Chained Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to negate its effect. Next, he used Knightmare Phoenix and the other Trickstar Lycoris to Link Summon Topologic Trisbaena! Chow then activated Sky Striker – Mecha Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Token. Topologic Trisbaena’s effect activated to banish Spells and traps but Dawar Chained Solemn Strike to negate the effect and destroy Topologic Trisbaena! Chow continued by using the Sky Striker Ace Token to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to add another Sky Striker – Mecha Hornet Drones from his Deck to his hand then drew a card. He then activated 2 copies of Sky Striker – Mecha Hornet Drones to create 2 Tokens. He used one to Link Summon Linkuriboh, then used it and the other Token to Link Summon Knightmare Cerberus. He then used Trickstar Reincarnation to Special Summon Trickstar Lycoris from his Graveyard then used Sky Striker Ace – Kagari, Knightmare Cerberus and Trickstar Lycoris to Link Summon Topologic Bomber Dragon! He attacked into Dawar’s Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku, and the battle damage plus the resulting effect damage was enough to wipe out Dawar’s remaining LP!
Duel 2
Dawar elected to go first. He started off with Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole, Setting a card and using its effect to send the sent Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! to the Graveyard. He then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! whose effect let Dawar add Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero to his hand. He activated it, Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye and used the Field Spell, then Chained Sky Striker Ace – Raye’s effect. When the Chain resolved, Dawar Special Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari and the top 3 cards revealed another Sky Striker Ace – Raye which he added to his hand. Dawar used Sky Striker Ace – Kagari’s effect to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! back to his hand which he activated to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to his hand. He Set a card and sent Sky Striker Ace – Kagari to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku whose effect Set Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Graveyard to the field. Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku’s effect added another card from his Deck to his hand during the End Phase.
Chow started off with Pot of Desires, banishing the top 10 cards of his Deck; but Dawar negated the effect with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He then activated Trickstar Light Stage and added Trickstar Candina from his Deck to his hand. He used Trickstar Light Stage’s effect to freeze the unknown face-down. He then Normal Summoned Trickstar Candina and used her effect to add Trickstar Reincarnation from his Deck to his hand. Trickstar Candina attacked into and destroyed Dawar’s Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku by battle. Sky Striker Ace – Raye’s effect Special Summon herself from the Graveyard when Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku was destroyed. Chow Set 2 copies of Trickstar Reincarnation and in the End Phase, Dawar activated Sky Striker Ace – Raye’s effect, Tributing her, then Chained Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor. When the Chain resolved, Dawar Special Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku while Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor negated Trickstar Candina’s effects.
Dawar used the Field Spell’s effect, revealing Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! adding it to his hand and sending Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku to the Graveyard. Chow activated Trickstar Reincarnation, then Chained Droll & Lock Bird, then Dawar Chained Sky Striker – Mecha Hornet Drones to create a Token. Dawar then banished his hand and drew none to replace them. Dawar used the Token to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari and that was enough to force a concession. We’re going to the third and final Duel with less than 13 minutes left in the Round.
Duel 3
Chow elected to go first. He started off with Pot of Desires, banishing the top 10 cards of his Deck and was once again hit with Dawar’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate the draw Spell. He Set Shared Ride and passed.
Dawar Set 2 cards to the back row. He then Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye. He attacked with Sky Striker Ace – Raye for 1500, then Sky Striker Ace – Raye’s effect Special Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku and she connected for another 1500 damage. He Set 2 cards to the back and tried to use Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku’s effect but Chow Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it.
Chow Normal Summoned Trickstar Lycoris. He Set Trickstar Reincarnation and passed.
Dawar drew for turn and took 200 damage from Chow’s Trickstar Lycoris. He activated his Set Twin Twisters, discarding Sky Striker – Mecha Hornet Drones to destroy both of Chow’s cards. Chow Chained one of them: Shared Ride. Chow then flipped the Set Pot of Desires, banishing 10 cards to draw 2 more, taking another 400 damage. Dawar then activated the Set Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to negate Trickstar Lycoris’s effect and take control of it. Both monsters attacked directly to leave Chow at 1900 LP. He Set one to the back row and passed Trickstar Lycoris back to Chow in the End Phase.
Chow Normal Summoned Trickstar Candina and tried to use the effect but it was shut down by Dawar’s Solemn Strike! He switched Trickstar Lycoris to Defense Position and passed.
Dawar then used Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! to destroy Chow’s Trickstar Lycoris. He tried to attack directly for game but Chow blocked the attack by using the in-grave Trickstar Reincarnation to revive Trickstar Lycoris. Chow had the Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to take control of Trickstar Lycoris and clear the way for Sky Striker Ace – Kagari to end the Match!
Dawar moves on to the Finals!
