Denny Yu from Sacramento, California is Dueling against Ashik Najib from Atlanta, Georgia in this Round 6 Feature Match! Yu won a YCS in Las Vegas back in 2014, and now he’s looking for another championship win. He’s using a Gouki Sky Striker Deck this weekend, and now he’s facing off against Ashik Najib’s Trickstar Sky Striker Deck. Both Duelists are currently 4-1 and looking for a win in this round to maintain a record strong enough to have high hopes of a Top 64 finish. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Najib activated Terraforming to add Trickstar Light Stage to his hand, prompting Yu to discard Droll & Lock Bird.

Next, Najib activated Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Sky Striker Ace Token and used it to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. He used Kagari’s effect to return Hornet Drones from his Graveyard to his hand and Set a card to his back row before passing.

Yu drew a card and then had Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, Gouki Octostretch, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Soul Charge, and Gouki Twistcobra in his hand. He activated Engage to add Hornet Drones to his hand and then activated it to Special Summon a Token. He Normal Summoned Twistcobra next, and then used both monsters to Link Summon Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights. He used the effects of Twistcobra and Isolde to add Gouki Headbatt and Gouki Twistcobra to his hand. He then activated Isolde’s other effect, sending Divine Sword – Phoenix Blade from his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Gouki Octostretch from his Deck. He Special Summoned Headbatt by discarding Twistcobra next, and then combined both Goukis to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. He discarded Phoenix Blade to try to destroy Najib face-down Scapegoat, and Najib Chained it to Special Summon 4 Sheep Tokens. Yu added Gouki Re-Match and Gouki Riscorpio from his Deck to his hand with the effects of his Gouki monsters. He then combined Isolde with Octostretch and Headbatt to Link Summon Firewall Dragon and used Firewall Dragon’s effect to return Kagari to Najib’s Extra Deck. Next, Yu used his Phoenix to Link Summon a Knightmare Mermaid, and Special Summoned Riscorpio from his hand. He discarded a Phoenix Blade with his Mermaid’s effect to Special Summon Knightmare Corruptor Iblee and draw a card. Then, he combined Mermaid with Iblee and Firewall to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn. He discarded a Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his hand to get rid of a Sheep Token from Najib’s field and then activated Soul Charge! He gave up 4000 Life Points to Special Summon Firewall Dragon, Mermaid, Octostretch, and Phoenix.

He then used Mermaid and Riscorpio to Link Summon a Knightmare Goblin and then activated the effect of his Riscorpio to add a Suprex to his hand, and Special Summon it with Firewall. He then combined Octostretch with Suprex to Link Summon Underclock Taker, using Suprex’s effect to add Gouki Bearhug to his hand, and Firewall’s effect to Special Summon the Bearhug. He then Link Summoned Tri-Gate Wizard, Special Summoned Octostretch from his hand, Link Summoned Linkuriboh, Special Summoned Suprex, and Link Summoned Cerberus to complete the Extra Link.

Najib activated Light Stage to add Candina to his hand and then activated another one to add Trickstar Lycoris to his hand. He Normal Summoned the Candina and activated its effect, but lost out to Yu’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Najib immediately conceded, completely overwhelmed by Yu’s Extra Linked field.

Duel Two

Najib activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, and when he added Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to his hand, Yu discarded Droll & Lock Bird. He activated the Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Token and then used the Token to Link Summon Kagari, returning the Engage from his Graveyard to his hand. He Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.

Yu drew a card and then had Noble Arms – Arfeudutyr, Hey, Trunade!, Gouki Twistcobra, Instant Fusion, and Junk Forward in his hand.

He Set the Instant Fusion and then Special Summoned Junk Forward. He equipped it with his Noble Arms and used its effect to destroy a face-down Mind Crush that Najib opted not to Chain. Yu flipped his face-down Instant Fusion and gave up 1000 Life Points to Special Summon Dragoness the Wicked, and then combined it with Junk Forward to Xyz Summon M-X-Saber Invoker. He used its effect to Special Summon Gouki Suprex from his Deck and then combined Invoker with Suprex to Link Summon Isolde. He used the effects of Suprex and Isolde to add a Suprex and a Headbatt to his hand, and then used Isolde’s effect to send a Phoenix Blade from his Deck to his Graveyard and try to Special Summon a monster; but he lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, Yu Normal Summoned Twistcobra and Special Summoned Headbatt from his hand. He returned his Phoenix Blade to his hand by banishing 2 Warriors from his Graveyard and then Link Summoned Knightmare Goblin. He added Gouki Re-Match and Gouki Bearhug to his hand with the effects of his fallen Goukis. He activated the Re-Match to Special Summon Headbatt and Twistcobra from his Graveyard and then combined Isolde with both Goukis to Special Summon Firewall Dragon. He then used the Goblin as a Link Material to Special Summon Knightmare Mermaid, and used its effect to discard a Phoenix Blade and Special Summon Iblee. He drew Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from the top of his Deck with the Mermaid’s effect. He then returned his Phoenix Blade from his Graveyard to his hand and Link Summoned Knightmare Goblin by combining Iblee and Bearhug. He added Riscorpio from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Bearhug and used Goblin’s effect to discard a Phoenix Blade, gain a Normal Summon, and draw a Junk Forward. Yu then used his Firewall’s effect to return Iblee and Bearhug from his Graveyard to his hand and Normal Summoned the Iblee next to his Goblin. He combined a Goblin with Iblee to Link Summon Underclock Taker and used Firewall’s effect to Special Summon Riscorpio from his hand. He used Underclock’s effect to reduce the ATK of Kagari by 2500. He then combined a Goblin with Riscorpio to Link Summon Tri-Gate Wizard and used Riscorpio’s effect to add a Suprex to his hand. He then used Firewall’s effect to Special Summon Bearhug and returned his Phoenix Blade to his hand by banishing 2 more Warriors from his Graveyard. He equipped the Phoenix Blade to Bearhug, and then attacks from Yu’s monsters ended the Duel and the Match!
