South America WCQ Top 16 Feature Match: Martin Alonso Lira Alban vs. Jose Luis Alva Cuadros

July 1st, 2018

We have two Peruvian Duelists for our Top 16 Feature Match. Martin Lira is one of two remaining Pendulum Magician Duelists, while Jose Alva is playing Sky Striker Trickstars. It’s last format’s dominant strategy against the new hotness – what will triumph?

 Duel 1

Alva won the roll, and started with a hand of Mind Crush, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Shared Ride, and two copies of Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!. He played Engage, adding Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to his hand. He played it and immediately Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari, adding Engage back to his hand. He Set Mind Crush and Shared Ride, then used Kagari to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. In the End Phase, Shizuku added his third Engage to his hand.

Lira began by Normal Summoning Magical Abductor. He played Mythical Beast Master Cerberus in his Pendulum Zone, using its effect, and Alva responded with Shared Ride. Lira added Mythical Beast Jackal to his hand, and Alva drew Trickstar Candina. Lira played Jackal King in his Pendulum Zone, and used its effect to Special Summon Master Cerberus. He played Wisdom-Eye Magician in his Pendulum Zone next. He activated Master Cerberus, removing two Spell Counters from it and Abductor to banish Shizuku. He Link Summoned Heavymetalfoes Electrumite, and used it to put a Wisdom-Eye Magician in his Extra Deck. He activated another Jackal King in his Pendulum Zone, using Electrumite to destroy it and add Wisdom-Eye to his hand, and drew a card. He played his second Wisdom-Eye in the Pendulum Zone, and used it to put Oafdragon Magician on the field. Oafdragon returned Wisdom-Eye to Lira’s hand. The second Wisdom-Eye put Black Fang Magician on the field. He Pendulum Summoned both of his Jackals, along with Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm, Wisdom-Eye, and Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku from his hand! Alva knew it was over and immediately conceded the first Duel!

Duel 2

Alva started first again, with a hand of Scapegoat, Trickstar Candina, Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones, Infinite Impermanence, and Terraforming. He led with Terraforming to get Trickstar Light Stage, and that to get Trickstar Lycoris. He played Hornet Drones and Link Summoned Kagari, adding Hornet Drones back to his hand. He activated it again, then Normal Summoned Candina. He added Trickstar Lilybell to his hand and Special Summoned it. He used all his monsters to play Saryuja Skull Dread, drawing Light Stage, Droll & Lock Bird, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Twin Twisters, and returning Lycoris, Ash Blossom, and Scapegoat to the bottom of his Deck. He played his second Light Stage to add Lycoris to his hand. He Set Infinite Impermanence and Twin Twisters, with Lycoris and Droll in his hand.

Lira played Denko Sekka! He activated Master Cerberus in his Pendulum Zone, using it to add Jackal King to his hand. Alva used Droll & Lock Bird. Lira continued, playing Jackal King and using it to Special Summon Master Cerberus, with Skull Dread pointing to it. He activated Purple Poison Magician and another Master Cerberus in his Pendulum Zone, and used Cerberus to banish Skull Dread. He attacked directly with Cerberus and Denko Sekka.

Alva drew Pot of Desires, and used it to draw Candina and Eradicator something? He played Candina and added another Candina to his hand. He sent Candina to destroy Denko Sekka in battle. He Set Eradicator, then flipped Twin Twisters, discarding Lycoris to destroy both of Lira’s Pendulum Zone cards. The destroyed Purple Poison took out Alva’s Candina.

Lira had his own Pot of Desires, and Alva flipped Infinite Impermanence to negate Master Cerberus, making it lose all its Spell Counters in the process. Lira played Timegazer Magician and went to the Battle Phase – Alva flipped Blind Obliteration! His hopes relied on his dice now…

He rolled…

a four! Timegazer was destroyed, but Master Cerberus’s high Level kept it on the field, and it ended the Match!
