200th YCS Columbus: Round 11 Feature Match – Ryan Arthur Levine vs. Taylor Alexander McCollister
Welcome to Round 11. We have this round and one more before the cut to the Top 64. At table 38 we have a World Championship competitor, Ryan Levine from Fairfax, Virginia, who qualified for the 2018 Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship via World Qualifying Points with a YCS Columbus record of 8-1-2 taking on Taylor McCollister from Nashville, Tennessee. Both players are looking to make it to the Top 64 and every win at this point is important. It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
McCollister won the roll and elected to go first. He started with Raigeki, 2 copies of Pot of Desires, Trickstar Candina, and Trickstar Reincarnation. He activated Pot of Desires right off the bat and was punished by Levine chaining Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. McCollister then Normal Summoned Trickstar Candina and used the effect to add Trickstar Light Stage from his Deck to his hand which was activated to add Trickstar Lycoris from his Deck to his hand. Lycoris was Special Summoned and Trickstar Candina was returned to McCollister’s hand. He Set Trickstar Reincarnation and passed.
Levine drew and took 400 damage from Lycoris. Levine Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye then went into the Battle Phase where McCollister activated Trickstar Reincarnation but Levine had the second Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Sky Striker Ace – Raye attacked over Lycoris then Sky Striker Ace – Raye swapped out for Sky Striker Ace – Hayate which attacked directly. Sky Striker Ace – Hayate’s effect sent Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to the Graveyard. In Main Phase 2, Sky Striker Ace – Hayate was used to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari whose effect added back the Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to his hand. Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole was then activated followed by Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! which added Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to his hand. Levine then used Sky Striker Ace – Kagari to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He Set 2 cards, then in the End Phase, he used Multirole to Set Engage from the Graveyard then used Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand.
McCollister drew Eater of Millions. He used Trickstar Light Stage to freeze the face-down Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!. He activated the second Pot of Desires, banishing the top 10 to draw Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and another Eater of Millions. He activated Raigeki to destroy Levine’s Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. Levine used Sky Striker Ace – Raye’s effect to Special Summon her from the Graveyard. McCollister then Normal Summoned Trickstar Candina. He used its effect to add Trickstar Reincarnation from his Deck to his hand. He then Special Summoned one of the Eater of Millions, banishing 5 cards from the Extra Deck, adding to the 20 banished cards from 2 Pot of Pot of Desires to give it 2500 ATK. Then he played the second Eater of Millions, banishing another 5 cards from the Extra Deck, making each Eater of Millions 3000 ATK. McCollister attacked with one Eater of Millions, which attacked into Sky Striker Ace – Raye. Sky Striker Ace – Raye’s effect was used to bring in Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. McCollister redirected the attack to Sky Striker Ace – Hayate and Levine activated Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to negate Eater of Millions’s effect, reducing its ATK to zero, destroying it in battle. Sky Striker Ace – Hayate’s effect sent Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand. The second Eater of Millions attacked and banished Sky Striker Ace – Hayate face-down. Then Trickstar Candina attacked directly followed by Trickstar Lycoris’s effect to swap places with Trickstar Candina and attack to leave Levine at 3400 LP to McCollister’s 5000 LP. In the End Phase, Levine’s Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! frozen by Trickstar Light Stage was banished, then Levine activated Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to Summon a Token, followed by using Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole’s effect to Set Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor.
Levine Set 2 cards, then Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye. He used Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole’s effect, sending the Token to make it so McCollister can’t response to Levine’s Spell Card activations. Sky Striker Ace – Raye was sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. Then Levine activated the Set Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! to destroy Trickstar Candina. He then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor. He immediately activated it to negate Trickstar Lycoris’s effect and take control of it. He used Shizuku and Trickstar Lycoris to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix then used a Set Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to steal McCollister’s Eater of Millions. He then used Knightmare Phoenix and Eater of Millions to Link Summon Triple Burst Dragon which attacked to tie up LP at 2600 LP apiece. In Main Phase 2, Levine activated the Set Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to add Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon from his Deck to his hand and draw a card. After the draw he immediately activated Twin Twisters, discarding Shark Cannon to destroy McCollister’s Trickstar Reincarnation and Trickstar Light Stage. (All of this couldn’t be chained thanks to Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole’s effect).
McCollister drew a second copy of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, holding no other cards in his hand or on the field. He Set one of them and passed.
Levine attacked with Triple Burst Dragon, destroying the Set Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.
McCollister Normal Summoned Trickstar Candina and tried to activate the effect but Levine negated it with the Set Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor. (He didn’t steal it because he didn’t have 3 Spells in his Graveyard anymore).
Levine Set a card and used Multirole to send the newly Set Terraforming to protect his Spells. He then flipped the Set Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor and draw a card. He then activated Reinforcement of the Army to add another Sky Striker Ace – Sky Striker Ace – Raye from his Deck to his hand. Levine then activated Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to take control of McCollister’s Trickstar Candina. He then Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye and attacked with all 3 monsters to end the first Duel.
Duel 2
McCollister elected to go first. He started with a hand of Scapegoat, Trickstar Candina, 2 copies of Trickstar Reincarnation and Droll & Lock Bird. He Normal Summoned Trickstar Candina and tried to use the effect but was hit with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.
Levine drew a card and was hit with the first Trickstar Reincarnation. In a new chain, McCollister tried to use Trickstar Reincarnation then Droll & Lock Bird but Levine negated Droll & Lock Bird with PSY-Framegear Gamma, summoning it from his hand and PSY-Frame Driver from his Deck. He then activated Multirole, Set Metalfoes Fusion and used Multirole’s effect to send Metalfoes Fusion to the Graveyard. He then sent Metalfoes Fusion back to the Deck to draw a card. Driver attacked and destroyed Trickstar Candina and McCollister used a Trickstar Reincarnation in his Graveyard to revive Trickstar Candina to block PSY-Framegear Gamma’s attack. In Main Phase 2, Levine Synchro Summoned PSY-Framelord Omega.
McCollister Special Summoned Eater of Millions, banishing 5 cards from his Extra Deck. Eater of Millions attacked and banished PSY-Framelord Omega then Trickstar Candina attacked directly. (Because McCollister didn’t have any cards in his hand, Levine couldn’t activate PSY-Framelord Omega’s effect to banish itself which would have protected it against Eater of Millions’s effect.) In Main Phase 2, Eater of Millions was sent to the Graveyard to Link Summon Linkuriboh!
Levine tried to activate Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to send his Set Spell/Trap to the Graveyard but McCollister chained his Set Scapegoat. Levine conceded and we’re off to a third and final Duel.
Duel 3
Levine elected to go first. He activated Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole and Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero. He used Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero, revealing Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and 2 other cards, adding Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand and sending a Set Multirole to the Graveyard. He then activated Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion from the Deck to the Graveyard, then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from his Deck to his hand. Levine then activated Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole’s effect, sending Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero to the Graveyard which allowed Levine to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Raye from the Deck. He then sent Sky Striker Ace – Raye to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari which picked up Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! which was activated to add another Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor. He Set 3 cards, Swapped Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku in to take Sky Striker Ace – Kagari’s place. In the End Phase, he Set Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero with Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole’s effect then used Shizuku’s effect to add Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones from his Deck to his hand.
McCollister activated Trickstar Light Stage but McCollister chained Shared Ride. McCollister added Trickstar Lycoris and Levine drew a card. Trickstar Light Stage’s other effect froze a face-down. He then activated another Trickstar Light Stage over the first one, adding another Trickstar Lycoris. He froze the same face-down with the new Trickstar Light Stage. Next, Trickstar Candina was Normal Summoned, adding Trickstar Reincarnation to his hand and giving Levine another card. McCollister went through the Battle Phase and into Main Phase 2, he Set 2 copies of Trickstar Reincarnation and Scapegoat. In the End Phase, Levine chose to activate the frozen Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor targeting the Trickstar Candina and McCollister chained 3 copies of Trickstar Lycoris, bringing Trickstar Candina back to his hand and Special Summoning the 3 Trickstars. Also in the End Phase, Levine used Twin Twisters to destroy McCollisters Scapegoat and a Trickstar Reincarnation. He then used Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to Set Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor form the Graveyard.
In Levine’s Draw Phase, McCollister activated the other Trickstar Reincarnation and Levine chained both copies to Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to take control of 2 Lycoris. Trickstar Reincarnation resolved with Levine taking 1400 damage from the single Lycoris left on McCollister’s field. Levine switched both Trickstar Lycoris to Attack Position. He used Trickstar Lycoris and Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku to Link Summon Knightmare Unicorn, using its effect discarding Shared Ride to spin the last Trickstar Lycoris back to McCollister’s Deck. Levine then used Mutirole, sending Area Zero but McCollister chained both copies of Trickstar Reincarnation in his Graveyard to revive 2 copies of Trickstar Lycoris. Levine then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and chained Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to steal one of the Lycoris. He added Sky Striker Ace – Raye from his Deck to his hand. Sky Striker Ace – Raye and Unicorn attacked, clearing the field. He then Link Summoned Knightmare Phoenix and used its effect to destroy Trickstar Light Stage. He then used Sky Striker Ace – Raye and Knightmare Phoenix to Link Summon Triple Burst Dragon.
McCollister Normal Summoned Trickstar Candina but Levine negated it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.
Levine activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and chained Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to steal Trickstar Candina. He added Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor. McCollister activated Droll & Lock Bird. Levine tributed Trickstar Candina for PSY-Frame Driver. Both monsters attacked directly.
McCollister drew Terraforming for Trickstar Light Stage and tried to activate it but Levine had a Heavy Storm Duster and McCollister extended the handshake!
Ryan Levine moves on to the final round of Swiss with an 8-1-2!
