200th YCS Columbus: Round 12 Feature Match – Aleksandr Roytburd vs. James Winning
Welcome to the final Swiss Round of the 200th YCS here in Columbus, Ohio! For our written Feature Match in this final Swiss Round, we have our Duelists at Table 1: Aleksandr Roytburd and James Winning! Both Duelists are currently 10-1 in the tournament, so regardless of a win or a loss here, they’re likely to make the Top 64 cut. Nevertheless, they’ll be Dueling their hardest to secure a spot in the higher rankings of the Top 64 before the top cut begins. Roytburd is using a True Draco Deck with Inspector Boarder, while Winning is using Sky Strikers. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Roytburd opened up with True Draco Heritage, Terraforming, Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior, Inspector Boarder, and The Monarchs Stormforth.
He Summoned Inspector Boarder and then activated Terraforming to add Dragonic Diagram from his Deck to his hand. He activated the Diagram and then used it to destroy the Ignis Heat in his hand and search his Deck for a True King’s Return. He Set the Return along with The Monarchs Stormforth and passed his turn.
Winning activated Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole and then Set Metalfoes Fusion. He used Multirole to send Metalfoes Fusion to the Graveyard and then activated Foolish Burial to send Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair from his Deck to his Graveyard. He shuffled Metalfoes Fusion from his Graveyard into his Deck to draw a card and then Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye. He used Raye to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate and then attacked directly with Hayate, dropping Roytburd down to 6500 Life Points. Hayate’s effect sent Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from Winning’s Deck to his Graveyard and then he activated Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon in Main Phase 2. He tried to banish Ignis Heat from Roytburd’s Graveyard, but Roytburd Chained True King’s Return to Special Summon it to his field. In the End Phase, Winning used his Multirole’s effect to Set Widow Anchor from his Graveyard to his field.
Roytburd drew a card and activated Disciples of the True Dracophoenix. He activated the effect of Dragonic Diagram; but Winning Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it! Roytburd switched Ignis Heat into Attack Position and then attacked Hayate with it. Winning flipped Widow Anchor and negated the effect of Inspector Boarder. Hayate was destroyed in battle, and Raye’s effect activated to Special Summon it back to the field in Defense Position. Inspector Boarder attacked Raye next, and Winning activated Raye’s effect to Tribute it and Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He then used Diabolos’s effect to Special Summon it from the Graveyard. Inspector Boarder attacked and destroyed Shizuku, and Winning dropped down to 6500 Life Points. Roytburd Set a Heritage and passed his turn.
Winning attacked and destroyed Inspector Boarder with Diabolos and passed.
Roytburd used his Diagram to destroy his Disciples and add True Draco Apocalypse to his hand and then used the effect of Disciples to destroy Multirole. He Set the Apocalypse, activated another Disciples, and then passed his turn.
Winning Normal Summoned Raye and then attacked Ignis Heat with Diabolos. Roytburd flipped Apocalypse and used its effect, destroying the Disciples to halve the ATK of Diabolos, causing it to be destroyed in battle. Winning Tributed Raye to Special Summon Hayate next, and used Diabolos’s effect in the Graveyard to Special Summon it once more. Hayate attacked directly and sent Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! from his Deck to his Graveyard with its effect. In Main Phase 2, Winning used Hayate to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. In the End Phase, he added Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Shizuku.
Roytburd drew True Draco Apocalypse and then used the effect of his Diagram to destroy his Ignis Heat and add Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster to his hand. He flipped over Heritage next, and used its effect to gain a Normal Summon. He then flipped The Monarchs Erupt and Tributed Winning’s Shizuku for Majesty Maiden. He used True King’s Return to Special Summon Ignis Heat next, and then used Apocalypse to destroy the Ignis Heat and halve the ATK of Diabolos. Majesty Maiden destroyed it in battle, and then Roytburd used Heritage’s effect to draw Gozen Match from his Deck. He Set it before passing his turn.
Winning activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and Roytburd Chained the effect of Majesty Maiden to add Ignis Heat from his Deck to his hand. Winning added Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to his hand with Engage and then drew a card. Winning activated another Engage next, adding Sky Striker Ace – Raye from his Deck to his hand and drawing another card with its effect. Next, Winning used Pot of Desires! He banished the top 10 cards of his Deck face-down to draw 2 cards. He activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Roytburd 1000 Life Points, and then activated Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion from his Deck to his Graveyard. He shuffled it back into his Deck to draw a card. He activated Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero next, and Set a card to his back row. He used the effect of Area Zero, but missed out when he revealed no Sky Strikers in the top 3 cards of his Deck. Next, he activated Widow Anchor to take control of Majesty Maiden. He Normal Summoned Raye next, and then entered his Battle Phase. Roytburd used the effect of True King’s Return to Special Summon Ignis Heat and when Raye attacked it, Roytburd flipped Gozen Match! Winning Chained the effect of Raye to Tribute it and Special Summon Kagari. After Gozen Match resolved, Winning sent Majesty Maiden to the Graveyard. Kagari’s effect activated to return Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! from Winning’s hand to his Graveyard, and Roytburd discarded Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit from his hand to destroy the Kagari. In Main Phase 2, Winning activated Afterburners to try to destroy Ignis Heat, but Winning Chained the effect of his Apocalypse to Tribute it and Summon a new Ignis Heat! Winning Set a card to his back row and passed.
Roytburd drew Imperial Order and then used True King’s Return to Special Summon Ignis Heat from the Graveyard. He activated the effect of his Diagram, prompting Winning to immediately concede.
Winning draws a lot of cards in a single turn during Duel 1, but it isn’t enough to defeat Roytburd’s True Dracos! Winning will be going first in Duel 2!
Duel Two
Winning started off Duel 2 by activating Reinforcement of the Army to add Sky Striker Ace – Raye from his Deck to his hand.
He Normal Summoned it and then used it to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He Set 3 cards to his back row and then used Shizuku’s effect in the End Phase to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand.
Roytburd opened up with 2 copies of Disciples of the True Dracophoenix, Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries, Rivalry of Warlords, and Ignis Heat. He sent Ghost Reaper from his hand to his Graveyard to banish all 3 copies of Kagari from Winning’s Extra Deck and then activated Disciples. He used its effect to gain a Normal Summon, and Winning Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy it. He used his Disciples’s effect to destroy a face-down Widow Anchor. He Set another Disciples, Tributed it to Summon Ignis Heat, and then attacked Shizuku with Ignis Heat to destroy it. Winning activated the effect of Raye in the Graveyard to Special Summon it back to the field in Defense Position. Roytburd Set Rivalry before passing his turn. In the End Phase, Winning activated the effect of Raye by Tributing it to Special Summon Shizuku, and Roytburd added Disciples from his Deck to his hand with Ignis Heat. Winning also used Shizuku’s effect to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand in the End Phase.
Winning activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and used its effect to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from his Deck to his hand and draw a card. He used another Engage next, adding Area Zero to his hand and drawing another card. Roytburd tried to use Ignis Heat’s effect, but lost out to Infinite Impermanence. Winning added Afterburners from his Deck to his hand with Engage and drew a card. He activated Afterburners next, destroying Ignis Heat along with the face-down Rivalry of Warlords, leaving Roytburd with nothing on his field. Winning Link Summoned Hayate, attacked directly, and then Set 2 cards to his back row. He Link Summoned another Shizuku by using Hayate as a Link material and then used Shizuku’s effect to add Area Zero from his Deck to his hand.
Roytburd drew Dragonic Diagram! He activated Disciples and then activated its effect to try to draw a card, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he activated Dragonic Diagram, and Winning flipped Twin Twisters, destroying the Disciples and the Diagram. Disciples took down Winning’s face-down Widow Anchor when it hit the Graveyard.
Winning activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and then Pot of Desires to draw 2 more. He activated Area Zero and used its effect to add Multirole from the top of his Deck to his hand in exchange for the Shizuku on his field. He activated Multirole and used its effect to send Area Zero to the Graveyard. He then used Area Zero’s effect to Special Summon Raye from his Deck. He attacked with Raye, dropping Roytburd down to 6000 Life Points, and then Tributed Raye to Special Summon Hayate. He attacked directly with Hayate and then activated Area Zero in Main Phase 2. In his End Phase, he Set Widow Anchor from his Graveyard with Multirole.
Roytburd drew Ignis Heat and Set Ghost Reaper.
Winning Set a card to his back row and then activated Jamming Waves to destroy his own face-down Mystical Space Typhoon along with Roytburd’s face-down Ghost Reaper. Hayate attacked directly next, and Winning Set Widow Anchor from his Graveyard in the End Phase.
Roytburd drew Pot of Duality and activated it, revealing another Duality, a Rivalry, and a Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter from the top of his Deck. He added the Rivalry to his hand and Set it. He Tributed it to Summon Ignis Heat and then attacked Hayate with Ignis Heat. Winning flipped Widow Anchor to take control of it, and Roytburd used Ignis Heat’s effect; but as he looked through his Deck, he realized there was nothing he could do to come back in the Duel.
He promptly conceded, and the Match moved on to a third and final Duel!
Duel Three
Roytburd opened up Duel 3 with Shared Ride, Majesty Maiden, Gozen Match, True Draco Heritage, and Inspector Boarder. He Summoned the Boarder and Set Shared Ride and Gozen Match.
Winning Set 2 cards to his back row and then passed his turn.
Roytburd drew Disciples and then activated it. He used its effect to gain a Tribute Summon and Tributed Disciples to Summon Majesty Maiden. He used the effect of Disciples to destroy a face-down Infinite Impermanence, and then activated True Draco Heritage and used its effect to draw Imperial Order. He attacked directly with Boarder and Majesty Maiden and then Set Imperial Order to his back row before ending his turn.
Winning activated Mystical Space Typhoon to target Roytburd’s face-down Gozen Match, and when Roytburd Chained Imperial Order, Winning flipped Red Reboot! Roytburd Set True King’s Return from his Deck, Imperial Order went back face-down, and then Gozen Match was destroyed by Mystical Space Typhoon. But it didn’t matter – Winning revealed his hand of 2 copies of Raye and 2 Droll & Lock Birds and conceded.
